Objective:To develop the Symptom Assessment Scale for Patients Undergoing Bladder Irrigation Chemotherapy and evaluate its reliability and validity. Methods:Based on the theory of unpleasant symptoms, a preliminary version of the Symptom Assessment Scale for Patients Undergoing Bladder Irrigation Chemotherapy was developed through literature analysis, semi-structured interviews, and the Delphi method. After revising certain items in the pre-survey, convenience sampling was used to select patients who underwent bladder instillation chemotherapy in the Department of Urology Surgery of three ClassⅢ Grade A hospitals in Yunnan Province from January to July 2024 as research subjects to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Results:A total of 168 questionnaires were distributed, and 162 valid questionnaires were collected, with a valid response rate of 96.429% (162/168). The Symptom Assessment Scale for Patients Undergoing Bladder Irrigation Chemotherapy covered two areas of symptom severity and symptom distress, comprising five dimensions and 27 items. The Cronbach's α coefficient for the total scale was 0.953, and the split-half reliability coefficient was 0.806. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the four common factors for symptom severity contributed to 73.196% of the cumulative variance, while the single common factor for symptom distress accounted for 68.285% of the cumulative variance. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that all indicators met the fit criteria, indicating that the model possessed good goodness-of-fit. The content validity index at the scale level was 0.940, while the content validity index at the item level ranged from 0.833 to 1.000.Conclusions:The Symptom Assessment Scale for Patients Undergoing Bladder Irrigation Chemotherapy developed in this study demonstrates good reliability and validity, and is suitable for evaluating symptoms in patients undergoing bladder infusion chemotherapy.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combining third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKI) with brain radiotherapy in patients with newly diagnosed EGFR mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with brain metastases. Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of patients with newly diagnosed EGFR-mutant NSCLC with brain metastases who received first-line treatment with third-generation EGFR-TKI with or without brain radiotherapy at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University between January 2018 and December 2022. Patients treated with EGFR-TKI plus brain radiotherapy were assigned to the combination group, while those treated with EGFR-TKI alone were assigned to the monotherapy group. Intracranial progression-free survival (iPFS), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), intracranial disease control rate (iDCR), intracranial objective response rate (iORR), and adverse events were compared between groups. Subgroup analyses were performed according to EGFR exon 19 deletion (19del) and exon 21L858R mutation status. Survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, with the log-rank test applied for group comparisons and univariate analysis, while multivariate analysis was conducted using Cox proportional hazards regression model. Results:A total of 107 patients were included: 57 (53%) in the monotherapy group and 50 (47%) in the combination group. The combination therapy significantly improved iORR (80% vs. 60%, P=0.023), prolonged median OS (37.7 vs. 31.6 months, P=0.004), and extended median iPFS (21.8 vs. 16.7 months, P=0.018). The iDCR was 100% in both groups, and the difference in median PFS was not statistically significant (18.6 vs. 15.2 months, P=0.086). In the 19del subgroup ( n=53), patients in the combination group had longer OS ( P=0.028) and iPFS ( P=0.028). In the 21L858R subgroup ( n=54), the median OS was also longer in the combination group ( P=0.050). Multivariate analysis identified TKI monotherapy and an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status score=2 as independent adverse prognostic factors for iPFS, while TKI monotherapy, age ≥65 years, ECOG score=2, and >3 brain metastases were the independent adverse prognostic factors for OS. The incidence of adverse events did not differ significantly between groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions:First-line combination therapy with third-generation EGFR-TKI and cranial radiotherapy provides superior efficacy and acceptable safety compared with EGFR-TKI monotherapy in patients with EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinoma and brain metastases. Both EGFR 19del and 21L858R mutation subgroups benefit from the combined treatment approach.

Objective:To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and infection sources of cholera in China from 2005 to 2024.Methods:A total of 2 066 cholera cases were included in the study, which were obtained from the China Disease Control and Prevention Information System (CDPCIS) of China CDC. The information on cholera clusters was downloaded from the National Public Health Emergency Event Surveillance System (PHEESS) of China CDC. A total of 128 cholera clusters were included and analyzed in this study. The epidemiological characteristics and infection sources of cholera were analyzed. The Jointpoint model was applied to analyze the incidence trend, and annual percentage change (APC) was also quantified. Results:From 2005 to 2024, a total of 2 066 cholera cases were reported, with an average of 103 cases reported annually. Specifically, the incidence showed a marked downward trend from 2004 to 2015 ( APC=-26.78%, P=0.006). During 2015-2024, the disease remained at low endemic levels, with an average of 18 reported cases annually ( APC=-2.68%, P=0.807). Cholera peak season was from May to October. A total of 24 provinces reported cholera cases, which were mainly distributed in Zhejiang, Fujian, Beijing, Jiangsu, Anhui, Guangdong, and Hainan provinces, accounting for 78.03% of the total cases. Pathogen surveillance indicated an alternating prevalence of Vibrio cholerae serogroups O1 and O139 among laboratory-confirmed cases between 2005 and 2024. There was a disparity in the dominant serogroup of Vibrio cholerae by region. The results from 128 cholera clusters indicated that cholera outbreaks frequently occurred in rural banquets (64.84%), followed by regular restaurants (13.28%). Among these, 63 clusters (49.22%) with identified infection sources indicated that foodborne transmission (95.24%) was the primary mode of cholera transmission, which mainly through seafood and aquatic products, such as soft-shelled turtles, shrimp and shellfish. The characteristics of cholera clusters caused by Vibrio cholerae serogroups O1 and O139 showed statistically significant differences in scale, attack rate, place of residence, setting, and infection source ( P<0.05). Conclusion:Cholera incidence has remained consistently low since 2015 in China, mainly in sporadic cases. Rural gatherings (e.g., wedding banquets) are the main settings for cholera clusters. The main infection sources are predominantly caused by cross-contamination due to improper processing practices of aquatic products, such as soft-shelled turtles.

Chinese Journal of Plastic Surgery 2024;40(1):41-45
Objective:To explore the effect of sleep deprivation on hair growth cycle in mice.Methods:Seventy-two adult C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into a control group of 36 mice and an experimental group of 36 mice using a lottery method. After hair removal, in the control the group the mice were subjected to routine feeding in a horizontal platform environment for 16 hours per day, while in the experimental group the mice were subjected to sleep deprivation using an improved water platform for 16 hours per day. On the 1st, 9th, and 19th day after the experiment, the skin tissue from the hair removal area of the two groups of mice was taken for HE staining. Then the mouse hair was staged and scored by observing hair follicle morphology under an optical microscope. The cycle and score of the hair was started from the telogen, which was set as 0 points; the anagen Ⅰ to V were set as 1-5 points; the anagen Ⅵ and catagen Ⅰ were set as 6 points; the catagen Ⅱ to Ⅷ were set at 7-13 points. Statistical analysis was conducted by SPSS 26.0. The hair cycle score was expressed as Mean±SD. Student’s t-test was used for comparison between groups at the same time point, and Welch-test was used for comparison of scores at different time points within the group. P<0.05 indicated a statistically significant difference. Results:On the 1st, 9th, and 19th day, the hair cycle scores of the control group were 1.00 ± 0.57, 5.04 ± 0.94, and 9.52 ± 0.87 points, while the hair cycle scores of the experimental group were 0.85 ± 0.62, 2.40 ± 0.50 and 6.08 ± 0.42 points. Inter group comparison showed that the hair cycle scores of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group at all three time points. There was no statistically significant difference on the 1st day ( t=1.03, P=0.307), while the differences were statistically significant on the 9th day ( t=13.38, P<0.001) and the 19th day ( t=16.41, P<0.001). Intragroup comparison showed that there was a statistically significant difference in hair cycle scores between the control group and the experimental group at different time points( P<0.01), and the scores increased over time. Conclusion:Sleep deprivation can cause a lag in the hair growth cycle of mice, but it does not cause a cessation of the hair growth cycle. The degree of lag gradually increases with the number of deprivation days.
