Atherosclerosis(AS)is a chronic inflammatory disease involving disorders of lipid and iron metabolism. The establishment of suitable animal models is required to further the study of the etiology, pathogenesis, prevention, and therapeutic measures of AS.The main animal models of AS related to iron and lipid metabolism are mice and miniature piglets, especially male ApoE-/-mice.Single-factor high-fat diet-induced iron and lipid metabolism disorders are a common type of AS model, manifesting as elevated blood lipid levels, large plaques and iron deposition in the aorta, and significant increases in serum and liver iron levels. This review compares the effects of different intervention factors on iron and lipid metabolism in AS animal models, and summarizes the method of establishing AS animal models using dietary induction, chemical intervention, and gene modification,to provide references and inspiration for future research into AS and metabolic diseases and the development of new drugs.

Objective To investigate the compliance of follow-up and the associated factors of diabetic retinopathy screening among diabetes patients in Muping District,Yantai City. Methods 438 diabetes patients who received free diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening in Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Muping District of Yantai City from April 2012 to June 2013 were enrolled in the cross-sectional study. The re-examination rate at five years later,as well as the possible associated factors, including age, gender, height, weight, education level, occupation, past medical history, smoking and drinking habits, diabetes process, diabetes medication history, severity of DR,glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1 c),renal functionand blood lipid were analyzed and evaluated. Results Among 438 patients,159 returned for check up five years later, with a follow-up rate of 36.3%.Further analysis revealed that follow-up rate was related to occupation types (P =0.003) and HbAlc level (P =0.006).Other factors did not show statistical significance (P > 0.05).Conclusions The compliance of DR screening visits is related to occupational type and blood glucose control. It is suggested that in the screening of DR in China,we should pay attention to the propaganda and education of diabetic patients to control blood glucose, and focus on some occupational diabetes people, such as housework workers and farmers.

Objective To investigate medical students’demand for knowledge about healthcare-associated infec-tion(HAI),explore the opportunity and method of setting up curriculum about nosocomiology. Methods 447 medi-cal students who were about to start clinical practice were investigated through questionnaires. Results 434 (97.09%) questionnaires were available.152 (35.02%)medical students had access to knowledge about HAI,148 (34.10%) knew or learnt six-step hand-washing method,80 students understood six-step hand-washing method through media and society (n=65,81 .25%)or school curriculum (n=15,18.75%).95.62% of students hoped to set up curric-ulum about nosocomiology,354 (81 .57%)students preferred this discipline to be set up before clinical probation;55.07% of students hoped this course should be set up as a practice course,44.93% thought that theory and prac-tice should be combined.Occupational precaution measures as well as methods of disinfection and isolation were the most interesting knowledge among them. Conclusion Nosocomiology should be an obligatory course in medical col-leges,the semester before clinical practice is the best time for this course, the curriculum should combine theory with practice.

Objective To explore the relationship between the level of tumor necrosis factor related apoptosis inducing ligand(TRAIL) and death receptor 5(DR5) and atherosclerosis(AS).Methods Eighty-three patients were divided into two groups: Sixty-one in the coronary artery disease(CAD) group and 22 in normal coronary artery group.Plasma soluble TRAIL(sTRAIL) and soluble DR5(sDR5) levels from these people were assayed by ELISA.The level of TRAIL and DR5 protein expression in coronary arteries were detected by immunohistochemisty statining. Results Plasma sTRAIL and sDR5 significantly increased in the CAD group(P
