1.Disease burden of influenza like illness among student populations in Shenzhen

Objective:
To understand the epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of influenza like illness (ILI) among student populations, so as to provide data support for policy formulation and optimal allocation of health resources.
Methods:
From January 2024 to February 2025, a questionnaire survey was conducted among parents of kindergarten, primary school, junior and senior high school students in 9 districts of Shenzhen, including Longhua, Futian, Bao an, Longgang, Luohu, Nanshan, Guangming, Pingshan and Yantian. Parents were asked to complete the questionnaire based on whether their children had fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, rash and other common symptoms in 2024. A total of 3 537 parents were investigated, and 444 ILI cases were included as study subjects. The epidemiological burden, including incidence rate of influenza, visitation rate, years lived with disability (YLDs) and economic burden (including direct economic burden, indirect economic burden and intangible burden) were analyzed.
Results:
The incidence rate of influenza among students in Shenzhen in 2024 was 12.55%. The ILI incidence rates in kindergarten, primary school, junior and senior high school were 14.01%, 11.69% and 5.23%, respectively, with a statistically significant difference ( χ 2= 45.20, P <0.01). The ILI consultation rate among students was 85.36%, and the consultation rates in kindergarten (87.36%) and primary school students (84.62%) were higher than those in junior and senior high school students ( 56.52 %) ( χ 2=16.47, P <0.01). A total of 78.88% of cases did not receive etiological detection.The median total economic burden per ILI case was 2 354.62 yuan, including direct medical costs of 300.00 yuan, direct non medical costs of 212.50 yuan, indirect costs of 1 000.00 yuan, and intangible burden of 500.00 yuan.
Conclusions
Schools are high risk environment for influenza, and younger students are a high risk group for ILI. The disease burden caused by student ILI remains substantial.

Introduction:
The 2021 IDF-DAR risk calculator had been previously
evaluated in multiple studies and subsequently widely
accepted and applied in clinical practice as a practical
standardized tool for patient risk stratification. Recently
updated, the 2026 IDF-DAR Risk calculator enables a more individualized, evidence-related evaluation of patientrelated and disease-related risk factors, incorporating
modern diabetes technologies, including continuous
glucose monitoring (CGM), automated insulin delivery
(AID) systems, and advanced insulin formulations to
enhance risk stratification. This tool allows medical
professionals to tailor Ramadan practices based on overall
factors toward promoting safe fasting.
Methodology:
This prospective multicentre observational study recruited
adults with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes attending public
hospitals nationwide. People with diabetes (PwD) intending
to perform Ramadan fasting were invited to participate
and assessed using the 2026 IDF-DAR Risk Calculator in
the 6-week pre-Ramadan period between 30th January and
19th March 2026.
Results:
A total of 458 PwD were evaluated and stratified into low
(15.7%), moderate (41%), and high risk (43.3%) categories.
Most participants had Type 2 diabetes (83.6%), with 60.3%
having a disease duration exceeding 10 years and 43%
exhibiting poor glycemic control (hemoglobin A1c >9%).
Insulin therapy was used by 76.4% of participants, including
two individuals with Type 1 diabetes using AID systems.
Most participants reported no recent hypoglycemia (76.4%),
81.0% performed glucose monitoring, and 3.3% used CGM.
Severe comorbidities were uncommon, with 1.1% having
unstable macrovascular disease and 4.4% advanced chronic
kidney disease (estimated glomerular filtration rate <30).
Notably, 72.2% received structured Ramadan education.
Conclusion
Majority of PwD attending tertiary diabetes clinics were
in the moderate- to high-risk category and intended to
fast despite medical advice against fasting in some cases.
Although most participants were on insulin therapy,
hypoglycemia was low in the pre-Ramadan period.
Integration of modern technologies, advanced insulin
therapies, and structured education may support safer
fasting practices.

3.A Personalized Brain-computer Interface Paradigm and Decoding Method for The Objective Evaluation of Auditory Frequency Difference Limen

ObjectiveThe frequency difference limen (FDL) serves as a fundamental metric utilized for effectively quantifying the precise perceptual capabilities of the central auditory system. However, traditional measurement methods rely heavily on the active behavioral responses of subjects and are consequently highly susceptible to the negative influence of confounding subjective factors. Furthermore, existing research paradigms frequently employ uniform stimulus configurations that overlook critical individual perceptual differences. Based on brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, this comprehensive study aims to establish an objective and quantitative evaluation method for auditory frequency discrimination by systematically analyzing and decoding the specific neural responses elicited at the exact threshold state. MethodsWe designed a personalized rapid serial auditory presentation (RSAP) paradigm customized based on each individual’s precise FDL. A cohort of eleven healthy participants was recruited to evaluate the paradigm using pure-tone sequences at a baseline frequency of 4 000 Hz. This experimental paradigm simulates a realistic auditory perception environment through the continuous presentation of acoustic stimuli, thereby allowing for an in-depth investigation into the specific neural representations evoked by weak frequency deviations at the threshold state. Given that auditory stimulus-evoked response features exhibit complex and differentiated spatiotemporal distribution patterns across multiple frequency domains, this study further deeply integrates the cross-scale feature interaction module with the dynamic spatiotemporal attention allocation strategy, innovatively proposing the Multi-Scale Spatial-Temporal Dual Attention Network (MS-STAMNet). Specifically, the network constructs parallel processing branches with multiple receptive fields and introduces a dynamic adaptive weighting strategy to precisely localize core neural activity signals, further deeply integrating multi-scale information through cross-branch feature information interaction to achieve robust single-trial decoding of weak auditory evoked responses. ResultsThe comprehensive electrophysiological data analysis demonstrated that subtle auditory frequency deviation stimuli presented at the threshold level successfully elicited pronounced N2 and P3 event-related potential features, reflecting pre-attentive mismatch detection and subsequent cognitive evaluation, which were prominently distributed over the frontal, central, and temporal regions of the scalp. In the complex time-frequency domain, the extracted neural response characteristics exhibited distinct, statistically significant event-related synchronization within both the low-frequency δ and θ frequency bands, which was simultaneously accompanied by a widespread, prominent event-related desynchronization within the higher α band. A comparative analysis of model performance demonstrated that MS-STAMNet achieved an average unweighted average recall (UAR) of (69.67±6.12)% and area under the curve (AUC) of 0.761 8±0.07, significantly outperforming the established baseline models such as EEGNet and PLNet. Furthermore, a distinct dissociation phenomenon was verified between neural decoding and behavioral performance through regression analysis (R2=0.016, P=0.709), indicating that this model can effectively capture the implicit features of subtle frequency deviations, even when they fail to trigger explicit conscious responses. Additionally, attention weight visualization analysis further reveals the highly accurate focus of the network on key features concentrated over the bilateral temporal and fronto-parietal regions. ConclusionThis study systematically and comprehensively uncovers the multi-dimensional spatiotemporal evolutionary patterns of complex neural responses processing subtle acoustic variations under long-sequence threshold auditory stimulation. Concurrently, it verifies the efficacy and robustness of the proposed MS-STAMNet architecture in accurately deciphering weak, single-trial electroencephalogram signals amidst complex background noise. Ultimately, these neurophysiological and algorithmic findings lay a solid theoretical and methodological foundation for the objective and quantitative evaluation of individual auditory cognitive capabilities in clinical applications, transcending the fundamental limitations of traditional behavioral paradigms and providing robust technical support for future auditory research and related clinical assessments.
4.Study on the effect and mechanism of magnolol derivative on cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury

ObjectiveTo investigate the protective effect of magnolol ester derivative YW against cisplatin (Cis)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and to explore its effect and preliminary mechanisms on Cis-induced AKI. MethodsThe research group designed and synthesized the magnolol ester derivative YW using magnolol as the parent core. Molecular docking was employed to predict the binding interaction between YW and lysine acetyltransferase 7 (KAT7). A Cis-induced AKI model was established in C57BL/6J mice. Mice were divided into the normal control group, model group, YW low/medium/high dose groups (17.5, 35, 70 mg/kg), and the positive control amifostine group. Renal function was assessed by measuring serum creatinine (Scr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels. Pathological changes were evaluated via HE staining and scoring of kidney tissues. Protein expression levels of kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1), lysine acetyltransferase 7 (KAT7), and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1A (p21) in kidney tissues were detected by Western blot (WB). HK-2 cells were treated with different concentrations of YW; cell viability was measured by CCK-8 assay. WB was used to detect the expression levels of the renal injury marker KIM-1, KAT7, and its downstream protein p21. Cellular senescence was assessed by senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-Gal) staining. ResultsYW could stably bind to KAT7. In vivo experiments showed that, compared with the model group, all YW dose groups, especially the medium and high doses, significantly reduced the elevated levels of Scr and BUN in AKI mice (P<0.001) and effectively ameliorated renal histopathological damage. YW significantly downregulated the protein expression levels of KIM-1, KAT7, and p21 in kidney tissues (P<0.05). Concentrations of YW≤10 μmol/L had no significant effect on HK-2 cell viability. YW inhibited the Cis-induced decline in HK-2 cell viability (P<0.05), suppressed the Cis-induced upregulation of KIM-1, KAT7, and p21 proteins (P<0.05), and significantly decreased the percentage of SA-β-Gal-positive cells (P<0.01). ConclusionYW suppresses the expression of KAT7 and p21 proteins and inhibits the decline in HK-2 cell viability in cisplatin-induced AKI, significantly mitigates HK-2 cell senescence, and improves renal function, providing preliminary experimental evidence for developing AKI treatment strategies based on structural optimization of natural products.
5.Analysis of factors influencing early recurrence for patients with initially unresectable hepa-tocellular carcinoma who underwent liver resection following downstaging treatment and construction of a predictive model: a multicenter study

Objective:To investigate the factors influencing early recurrence for patients with initially unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who underwent salvage liver resection (SLR) following transcatheter arterial chemoembolization-based downstaging treatment, and construct a predictive model to evaluate its predicting performance.Methods:The retrospective cohort study was constructed. The clinicopathological data of 305 patients with initially unresectable HCC who were admitted to 4 medical centers in China, including the Third Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University (Shanghai Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital) et al, from January 2019 to December 2021 were collected. There were 286 males and 19 females, aged (48.7±10.4)years. A total of 133 patients who were admitted from January 2019 to December 2020 were set as the training cohort, and the other 172 patients who were admitted from January to December 2021 were set as the validation cohort. Observation indicators: (1) postoperative recurrence-free survival in HCC patients; (2) analysis of factors influencing postoperative early recurrence in HCC patients; (3) construction and validation of the predictive model. Comparison of measurement data with normal distribution between groups was conducted using the independent sample t test. Comparison of count data between groups was conducted using the chi-square test. Comparison of ordinal data was conducted using the rank sum test. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted using the Cox regre-ssion model. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate survival. The Log-rank test was used for survival analysis. The predicting performance of the model was evaluated using the concordance index (C-index) and the area under curve (AUC) of time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the accuracy of the model was validated using the calibration curve. The total net gain of the model was evaluated using the decision curve. Results:(1) Postoperative recurrence-free survival in HCC patients. The recurrence-free survival time of 133 HCC patients in the training cohort was 10.0(range, 1.5-24.0)months, with 1-, 2-year recurrence-free survival rate of 47.3% and 36.8%. The recurrence-free survival time of 172 HCC patients in the validation cohort was 11.0(range, 1.0-24.0)months, with 1-, 2-year recurrence-free survival rate of 51.7% and 37.2%. There was no significant difference in recurrence-free survival between patients in the training cohort and the validation cohort ( χ2=0.075, P>0.05). (2) Analysis of factors influencing postoperative early recur-rence in HCC patients. Results of multivariate analysis showed that tumor burden prior to down-staging treatment, grade of albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) score prior to SLR, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) half-life prior to SLR, and tumor response prior to SLR were independent factors influencing early recurrence in HCC patients after surgery [ hazard ratio=3.212, 2.526, 2.304, 1.575, 95% confidence interal ( CI) as 1.262-8.175, 1.324-4.818, 1.477-3.595, 1.138-2.180, P<0.05]. (3) Construction and validation of the predictive model. A nomogram predictive model for postoperative early recurrence was constructed base on the results of multivariate analysis. The C-index of predictive model was 0.786 for the training cohort and 0.734 for the validation cohort. The AUC of ROC curve of nomogram predictive model for 12-, 18-, and 24-month recurrence-free survival rate in the training cohort were 0.890 (95% CI as 0.836-0.944), 0.895 (95% CI as 0.842-0.947), and 0.887 (95% CI as 0.831-0.942), respectively. The AUC of ROC curve of nomogram predictive model for 12-, 18-, and 24-month recurrence-free survival rate in the validation cohort were 0.845 (95% CI as 0.781-0.909], 0.888 (95% CI as 0.826-0.950), and 0.919 (95% CI as 0.870-0.968), respectively. Results of calibration curve showed high consistency between the predicted results of nomogram predictive model and actual outcomes. Results of decision curve showed the nomogram predictive model with a good total net gain at a threshold of 0.10-0.50. Conclusions:Tumor burden prior to downstaging treatment, grade of ALBI score prior to SLR, AFP half-life prior to SLR, and tumor response prior to SLR are independent factors influencing early recurrence in initially unresectable HCC patients undergoing SLR following downstaging treatment. The nomogram predictive model based on these factors can effectively evaluate the prognosis of this patient population.
6.A randomized controlled trial of electronic balance assistant combined with pharmacotherapy for vestibular rehabilitation in patients with acute peripheral vestibular injury

Objective:To evaluate the effect of an electronic balance aid in balance rehabilitation training for patients with acute peripheral vestibular injury by comparing the outcomes of medication-only treatment and medication combined with vestibular rehabilitation using an electronic balance aid.Methods:This was a randomized controlled trial. The study subjects included 98 patients (40 males and 58 females, aged 25-69 years) diagnosed with idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) with vertigo or vestibular neuritis, who were treated in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of Tianjin First Central Hospital from November 2022 to November 2023. All patients were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group at a 1∶1 ratio using the sealed envelope method. Control group (conventional drug treatment): Patients received medication treatment for 2 weeks, including betahistine mesilate tablets, vitamin B1 tablets, methylcobalamin tablets, ginkgo biloba tablets, diphenhydramine hydrochloride injection (within 3 days of onset), metoclopramide hydrochloride injection, and glucocorticoids. Experimental group (conventional drug treatment+device training): On the basis of the same medication treatment as the control group, patients received vestibular rehabilitation training using an electronic balance aid (20 minutes per session, once a day,≥5 days per week, for a total of 2 weeks). SPSS software was used to compare the total scores of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), the total scores of the Sensory Organization Test (SOT), and sensory analysis indicators between the two groups before and after treatment.Results:After treatment, vertigo symptoms significantly improved in both groups. DHI: The total DHI score in the control group decreased from 77.9±1.8 before treatment to 20.2±2.3 after treatment ( P<0.001). In the experimental group, the total DHI score decreased from 73.5±2.1 before treatment to 8.6±0.9 after treatment ( P<0.001). The difference in total DHI scores between the two groups after treatment was statistically significant, with the experimental group showing a lower score ( t=-4.616, P<0.001). The improvement in DHI scores was also more pronounced in the experimental group compared to the control group ( t=2.004, P=0.048). SOT: The total SOT score in the control group increased from 52.90±0.95 before treatment to 73.3±1.1 after treatment ( P<0.001). In the experimental group, the total SOT score increased from 54.9±0.8 before treatment to 83.5±0.9 after treatment ( P<0.001). The difference in total SOT scores between the two groups after treatment was statistically significant, with the experimental group showing a higher score ( t=7.104, P<0.001). The improvement in SOT scores was also more pronounced in the experimental group compared to the control group ( t=6.532, P<0.001). Sensory Analysis Indicators Proprioception (SOM): In the experimental group, the proprioception score significantly increased after treatment compared with before treatment ( t=-2.338, P=0.029), while, there was no statistically significant difference in the proprioception score of the control group before and after treatment ( P=0.537). Before treatment, there were no statistically significant differences in visual, vestibular, or visual dependence scores between the two groups (all P>0.05). After treatment, the visual, vestibular, and visual dependence scores of both groups significantly increased compared with those before treatment (all P<0.05); moreover, the post-treatment visual, vestibular, and visual dependence scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion:Compared with medication-only treatment, the combination of an electronic balance aid and medication for the treatment and rehabilitation training of patients with acute peripheral vestibular injury can significantly improve the therapeutic effect in the short term.
7.Biomechanical characteristics of lower limbs in female patients with different types of patellofemoral pain syndrome

BACKGROUND:Currently,research both domestically and internationally on patellofemoral pain syndrome has explored the kinematics and dynamics during daily activities such as stair ascent and descent,and walking. However,there is a lack of studies examining the lower limb biomechanical characteristics of young female patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome in different squatting conditions.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the lower limb biomechanical characteristics among young female patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome in different functional states of the subtalar joint,providing theoretical support for the clinical treatment of various types of patellofemoral pain syndrome.METHODS:A total of 33 participants were included in this study. There were 10 subjects in the healthy control group (group C). The other 27 subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome were divided into two groups according to the foot posture index:14 subjects in the normal subtalar joint group (group A,foot posture index 0-6 points) and 13 subjects in the abnormal subtalar joint group (group B,foot posture index 7-12 points). The biomechanical indices of thesubjects in each group were collected and compared when they walked on stairs at normal speed. The kinematic indices included the three-dimensional joint angles of the hip and knee and the sagittal plane joint angles of the ankle at the initial contact moment and the moment of maximum knee flexion angle during the stance period. The dynamic indices included the three-dimensional joint torques of the hip and knee and the sagittal plane joint torques of the ankle at the moment of maximum knee flexion angle during the stance period. The surface electromyography indices included the root mean square amplitudes of the vastus medialis,vastus lateralis,rectus femoris,semitendinosus and semimembranosus,biceps femoris,and gluteus medius in the pre-activation stage and the buffering stage.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) At the initial ground contact moment,group A exhibited a greater knee flexion angle (P<0.05),greater hip external rotation angle (P<0.01),and smaller knee external rotation angle (P<0.01) compared to group B. Compared to group C,group A showed a greater knee flexion angle and smaller hip flexion angle (both P<0.01). Group B demonstrated a greater knee external rotation angle and smaller hip external rotation angle and hip flexion angle (all P<0.01) compared to group C. (2) At the moment of maximum knee flexion,group A had a smaller knee valgus angle (P<0.05),smaller knee external rotation angle (P<0.05),and greater knee flexion angle (P<0.01) compared to group B. Compared to group C,group A showed a smaller knee valgus angle (P<0.05),smaller hip flexion angle (P<0.01),and smaller hip external rotation angle (P<0.05). Group B had a smaller knee flexion angle,hip flexion angle,hip external rotation angle,and greater knee external rotation angle (all P<0.01) compared to group C. Additionally,group A exhibited a greater hip internal rotation moment (P<0.05) and plantarflexion moment (P<0.01) compared to group C. (3) At normal speed during the staircase buffering phase,group C showed higher activation levels than group A in the vastus lateralis (P<0.05),vastus medialis (P<0.01),gluteus medius (P<0.01),and biceps femoris (P<0.05). Group C also had higher activation levels than group B in the vastus medialis (P<0.01),gluteus medius (P<0.01),and biceps femoris (P<0.05). Additionally,group A showed higher activation in the semitendinosus and semimembranosus muscles compared to group B (P<0.05). (4) These findings indicate that young female patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome have stiffer hip and knee joint buffering while descending stairs,potentially compensated by the ankle joint. Low muscle activation levels contribute to patellofemoral pain,with those having normal subtalar joints but experiencing pain showing the lowest and most abnormal activation. ③ Abnormal biomechanics in the normal subtalar joint group are mainly due to insufficient hip and knee flexion. Abnormal biomechanics in the abnormal subtalar joint group are mainly due to excessive subtalar joint pronation.

The kinematic indices included the three-dimensional joint angles of the hip and knee and the sagittal plane joint angles of the ankle at the initial contact moment and the moment of maximum knee flexion angle during the stance period. The dynamic indices included the three-dimensional joint torques of the hip and knee and the sagittal plane joint torques of the ankle at the moment of maximum knee flexion angle during the stance period. The surface electromyography indices included the root mean square amplitudes of the vastus medialis,vastus lateralis,rectus femoris,semitendinosus and semimembranosus,biceps femoris,and gluteus medius in the pre-activation stage and the buffering stage.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) At the initial ground contact moment,group A exhibited a greater knee flexion angle (P<0.05),greater hip external rotation angle (P<0.01),and smaller knee external rotation angle (P<0.01) compared to group B. Compared to group C,group A showed a greater knee flexion angle and smaller hip flexion angle (both P<0.01). Group B demonstrated a greater knee external rotation angle and smaller hip external rotation angle and hip flexion angle (all P<0.01) compared to group C. (2) At the moment of maximum knee flexion,group A had a smaller knee valgus angle (P<0.05),smaller knee external rotation angle (P<0.05),and greater knee flexion angle (P<0.01) compared to group B. Compared to group C,group A showed a smaller knee valgus angle (P<0.05),smaller hip flexion angle (P<0.01),and smaller hip external rotation angle (P<0.05). Group B had a smaller knee flexion angle,hip flexion angle,hip external rotation angle,and greater knee external rotation angle (all P<0.01) compared to group C. Additionally,group A exhibited a greater hip internal rotation moment (P<0.05) and plantarflexion moment (P<0.01) compared to group C. (3) At normal speed during the staircase buffering phase,group C showed higher activation levels than group A in the vastus lateralis (P<0.05),vastus medialis (P<0.01),gluteus medius (P<0.01),and biceps femoris (P<0.05). Group C also had higher activation levels than group B in the vastus medialis (P<0.01),gluteus medius (P<0.01),and biceps femoris (P<0.05). Additionally,group A showed higher activation in the semitendinosus and semimembranosus muscles compared to group B (P<0.05). (4) These findings indicate that young female patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome have stiffer hip and knee joint buffering while descending stairs,potentially compensated by the ankle joint. Low muscle activation levels contribute to patellofemoral pain,with those having normal subtalar joints but experiencing pain showing the lowest and most abnormal activation. ③ Abnormal biomechanics in the normal subtalar joint group are mainly due to insufficient hip and knee flexion. Abnormal biomechanics in the abnormal subtalar joint group are mainly due to excessive subtalar joint pronation.
9.Establishment and application of ultra-fast real-time PCR for Brucella detection

This study was aimed at establishing a method of ultra-fast quantitative PCR for Brucella detection.We used an exogenous recombinant plasmid as the internal reference and targeted the T4SS secretion system,an important Brucella viru-lence factor,to design specific primers and probes.The sensitivity,specificity,and repeatability of this method were evaluated,and a standard curve was constructed.The coincidence rate of detection findings with this method versus quantitative PCR was determined.This method markedly decreased the detection time to only 10 minutes.The standard curve demonstrated a good linear relationship(Y=-3.410 7x+38.357,R2=0.998 5)with a low minimum detection limit of 10 copies/μL.The method exhibited good specificity and did not specifically amplify several common clinical bacteria other than Brucella.The de-tection of three concentrations of positive plasmids yielded coefficients of variation(CVs)of 0.20%to 0.91%,thus demonstra-ting the method's excellent repeatability.Furthermore,140 clinical samples were analyzed concurrently with the fluorescence PCR method,which yielded a 100%compliance rate and consistent results.Our findings indicated that the Brucella ultra-fast quantitative PCR was ultrafast;had high sensitivity,high specificity,and good specificity;and can be used for the clinical de-tection of Brucella and emergency investigation of epidemics.Therefore,this method is valuable for the early diagnosis of Bru-cella.
10.Effect of exercise during old age on cardiac function and APJ system in mice

Objective:We aimed to explore the effect of exercise on cardiac function and APJ system in old mice.Meth-ods:Male C57/BL6 mice were divided into young group(n=30),old control group(n=30),old continuous moderate-intensity training(CMIT)group(n=30),and old high-intensity interval training(HIIT)group(n=30).Mice in the CMIT group and HIIT group underwent 8-week exercise intervention,respectively.Mice in the young group and old con-trol group were placed on stationary treadmill simultaneously.The heart function parameters were measured,and the ex-pression of APJ/Apelin in myocardium and circulating Apelin/Elabela were compared among above-mentioned groups.Results:Compared yo mice in old control group,those in the CMIT group and HIIT group had significant higher left ven-tricular ejection fraction[(67.74±6.18)%,(70.69±7.43)%vs.(61.17±4.78)%]and left ventricular fractional short-ening[(33.07±4.29)%,(33.37±5.57)%vs.(28.05±3.61)%](P<0.05 or<0.01);and significant lower Tei index[(0.78±0.09),(0.78±0.12)vs.(0.88±0.08)]and left ventricular posterior wall thickness at diastole[(1.01±0.09)mm,(1.02±0.10)mm vs.(1.19±0.14)mm](P<0.05all).Compared to mice in old control group,those in the HIIT group had significant higher mitral valve E/A ratio[(1.63±0.11)vs.(1.42±0.18),P=0.043].Compared to mice in old control group,those in the HIIT group had significant higher expressions of APJ and Apelin in myocardium,as well as the levels of Apelin[(1186.23±393.74)pg/ml vs.(413.17±80.81)pg/ml]and Elabela[(5.38±2.76)ng/ml vs.(1.57±0.60)ng/ml]in the serum(P<0.05 or<0.01).Conclusion:Long-term exercise initiated late in life could im-prove heart function of mice.The APJ-Apelin/Elabela system may be involved in the exercise-mediated improvement of cardiac aging.
