Objective:
Miniscrews are commonly utilized as temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in cases of maxillary protrusion and premolar extraction. This study aimed to investigate the effects and potential side effects of two conventional miniscrew configurations on the maxillary incisors.
Methods:
Eighty-two adult patients with maxillary dentoalveolar protrusion who had undergone bilateral first premolar extraction were retrospectively divided into three groups: non-TAD, two posterior miniscrews only (P-TADs), and two anterior and two posterior miniscrews combined (AP-TADs). Cone-beam computed tomography was used to evaluate the maxillary central incisors (U1).
Results:
The APTADs group had significantly greater U1 intrusion (1.99 ± 2.37 mm, n = 50) and less retroclination (1.70° ± 8.80°) compared to the P-TADs (–0.07 ± 1.65 mm and 9.45° ± 10.68°, n = 60) and non-TAD group (0.30 ± 1.61 mm and 1.91° ± 9.39°, n = 54).However, the AP-TADs group suffered from significantly greater apical root resorption (ARR) of U1 (2.69 ± 1.38 mm) than the P-TADs (1.63 ± 1.46 mm) and non-TAD group (0.89 ± 0.97 mm). Notably, the incidence of grade IV ARR was 16.6% in the AP-TADs group, significantly higher than the rates observed in the P-TADs (6.7%) and non-TAD (1.9%) groups. Multiple regression analysis revealed that after excluding tooth movement factors, the AP-TADs configuration resulted in an additional 0.5 mm of ARR compared with the P-TADs group.
Conclusions
In cases of maxillary protrusion and premolar extraction, the use of combined anterior and posterior miniscrews enhances incisor intrusion and minimizes torque loss of the maxillary incisors. However, this approach results in more severe ARR, likely due to the increased apical movement and composite force exerted.

Flowering and bolting are important agronomic traits in cruciferous crops such as Brassica juncea. Timely flowering can ensure the crop organ yield and quality, as well as seed propagation. The WRKY family plays an important role in regulating plant bolting and flowering, while the function and mechanism of WRKY12 in B. juncea remain unknown. To explore its function and mechanism in bolting and flowering of B. juncea, we cloned and characterized the BjuWRKY12 gene in B. juncea and found that its expression levels were significantly higher in flowers and inflorescences than in leaves. BjuWRKY12 belonged to the Ⅱc subfamily of the WRKY family, and subcellular localization indicated that the protein was located in the nucleus. Ectopic overexpression of BjuWRKY12 in transgenic lines promoted bolting and flowering, leading to significant increases in the expression levels of flowering integrators SOC1 and FUL. Furthermore, yeast one-hybrid and dual luciferase reporter system assays confirmed that BjuWRKY12 directly bound to the promoters of BjuSOC1 and BjuFUL, undergoing protein-DNA interactions. This discovery gives new insights into the regulation network and molecular mechanisms of BjuWRKY12, laying a theoretical foundation for the breeding of high-yield and high-quality varieties of B. juncea.

Objective:To explore the longitudinal effect of learning stress on learning burnout in vocational college students, and the mediating role of academic procrastination. Methods:A total of 1 212 vocational college students were selected, and two follow-up surveys were conducted at 12-week intervals in September (T1) and November (T2) of 2024 using the basic situation questionnaire, the burnout inventory-student survey, the learning pressure questionnaire and the brief academic procrastination scale. SPSS 26.0 software was used to compare the demographic characteristics of students' depersonalization using t test and single factor analysis of variance. Bootstrap was used to analyze the relationship among learning stress, academic procrastination and learning burnout. Results:The scores of learning stress at T1 and T2 for vocational college students were 14.47±3.52 and 14.52 ±3.50, the scores of academic procrastination at T1 and T2 were 27.14±9.07 and 27.21±9.04, and the scores of learning burnout T1 and T2 were 39.38±8.76 and 39.69±8.79.The t-test showed that the score of learning burnout at T1 of students aged 18 and below (36.70±8.72) was lower than students aged 18 above (40.15±8.63, t=-5.81, P<0.01). The score of learning burnout for liberal arts students at T1(40.82±8.54) was higher than that of science students (37.68±8.72, t=6.31, P<0.01). Single factor analysis of variance showed that the score of learning burnout for grade 1 students at T1(35.19±8.45) was lower than that of grade 2 students (41.33±7.98) and grade 3 students (38.92±9.88), and learning burnout score of grade 2 students at T1 was higher than that of grades 3 students ( F=61.59, P<0.01). The score of learning burnout for high-achieving students at T1(36.23±8.34) was lower than that of middle-achieving students (39.82±8.52) and low-achieving students (45.42±9.14), and the score of learning burnout for middle-achieving students at T1 were lower than that of low-achieving students ( F=36.53, P<0.01). Bootstrap test showed that academic procrastination T2 played a partial mediating role in the relationship between learning stress T1 and learning burnout T2 (effect size=0.04, 95% CI=0.03-0.07). Academic procrastination T1 played a partial mediating role in the relationship between learning stress T1 and learning burnout T2 (effect size=0.05, 95% CI=0.04-0.07). Conclusion:Learning stress can directly affect learning burnout in vocational college students, and also can indirectly affect learning burnout through the mediating effect of academic procrastination.

Objective:To understand the usage situation of e-cigarettes among residents aged 18-65 in Beijing, explore the relationship between e-cigarette use and cigarette smoking as well as smoking cessation behaviors, and provide scientific support for the developing and improving policies and measures related to e-cigarettes.Methods:Using 19 684 residents data from the Beijing Non-communication Chronic Disease and Risk Factors Surveillance in 2022, complex sampling weighted methods were used to estimate proportions, and complex sampling logistic regression analysis was applied to explore the relationship between e-cigarette use, cigarette smoking, and smoking cessation. Results:Among all study participants, the proportion of those who had ever used e-cigarettes was 3.36%, with the current e-cigarette use at 1.26%. The proportion of current e-cigarette users (1.87%) and the former e-cigarette users (3.47%) were higher ( χ2=64.70, P<0.001) among males compared to females (0.60% and 0.64% respectively). The top three reasons for using e-cigarettes were wanting to quit smoking, perceiving e-cigarettes as less harmful, and enjoying the flavors of e-cigarettes. 83.54% of e-cigarette users started with cigarettes. The results of the complex sampling multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that current smoking ( OR=61.35, 95% CI: 36.98-101.76) and former smoking ( OR=31.20, 95% CI: 15.52-62.71) were positively associated with e-cigarette, while current e-cigarette use ( OR=0.13, 95% CI: 0.04-0.39) was negatively associated with quitting cigarette smoking. Conclusions:The proportion of e-cigarette use in Beijing was relatively low. E-cigarette use was associated with cigarette use and was not conducive to smoking cessation. Therefore, stronger regulatory measures and health education campaigns regarding the risks of e-cigarettes should be implemented.

Anxiety is a major emotional disorder manifested in the individual's expectation of future threats. The incidence rate of anxiety is about 7.3%,with the highest lifetime prevalence rate among mental health conditions. The mechanism of anxiety overlaps with depression, and anxiety is a typical symptom of various mental diseases or emotional disorders in traditional Chinese medicine. The high rates of comorbidity and disability pose serious threats to people's health.Animal models are important tools for studying anxiety and are of great use for deciphering the pathogenesis of anxiety and for developing drugs. The traditional paradigm of stress-induced anxiety, however,is relatively limited.Based on traditional theory combined with clinical and animal experimental data,we propose a new hypothesis of"insufficiency of ZhiYi'causing anxiety, defined as"an anxiety state induced by the inability of an individual to meet their own needs, limited or lacking after multiple attempts, rendered hindered and powerless by an inability to meet their desires".This hypothesis is more in line with the typical manifestations of despair, lack of pleasure, and social withdrawal in clinical patients, and is supported by traditional theory and experimental data showing"hunger but unable to eat, food but unable to obtain, and gain but not full".Based on this, the established modeling paradigm is easy to apply, with good repeatability and low cost, and can be used to establish anxiety models in rats and mice,to provide a theoretical and model basis for the development and pharmacological evaluation of anti-anxiety drugs.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Shexiang Tongxin Dropping Pill (STDP) in treating stable angina patients with phlegm-heat and blood-stasis syndrome by exercise duration and metabolic equivalents.
METHODS:
This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial enrolled stable angina patients with phlegm-heat and blood-stasis syndrome from 22 hospitals. They were randomized 1:1 to STDP (35 mg/pill, 6 pills per day) or placebo for 56 days. The primary outcome was the exercise duration and metabolic equivalents (METs) assessed by the standard Bruce exercise treadmill test after 56 days of treatment. The secondary outcomes included the total angina symptom score, Chinese medicine (CM) symptom scores, Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ) scores, changes in ST-T on electrocardiogram and adverse events (AEs).
RESULTS:
This trial enrolled 309 patients, including 155 and 154 in the STDP and placebo groups, respectively. STDP significantly prolonged exercise duration with an increase of 51.0 s, compared to a decrease of 12.0 s with placebo (change rate: -11.1% vs. 3.2%, P<0.01). The increase in METs was significantly greater in the STDP group than in the placebo group (change: -0.4 vs. 0.0, change rate: -5.0% vs. 0.0%, P<0.01). The improvement of total angina symptom scores (25.0% vs. 0.0%), CM symptom scores (38.7% vs. 11.8%), reduction of nitroglycerin consumption (100.0% vs. 11.3%), and all domains of SAQ, were significantly greater with STDP than placebo (all P<0.01). The changes in Q-T intervals at 28 and 56 days from baseline were similar between the two groups (both P>0.05). Twenty-five participants (16.3%) with STDP and 16 (10.5%) with placebo experienced AEs (P=0.131), with no serious AEs observed.
CONCLUSION
STDP could improve exercise tolerance in patients with stable angina and phlegm-heat and blood stasis syndrome, with a favorable safety profile. (Registration No. ChiCTR-IPR-15006020).
