ObjectiveTo investigate the protective effect of α-ketoglutarate (α-KG) on hepatic lipid deposition in offspring caused by arsenic exposure during pregnancy. Methods8-week-old institute of cancer research (ICR) mice were mated in a ratio of 2∶1 between females and males, and the detection of vaginal plugs confirmed pregnant. A total of 32 pregnant mice were randomly divided into four groups: control group, arsenic group, α-KG group, arsenic+α-KG group. On gestational day 0-16 (GD0-GD16), the arsenic and arsenic+α-KG groups were exposed to sodium arsenite (NaAsO2 ,15 mg/L) in drinking water everyday, and the α-KG and arsenic+α-KG groups were gavaged with α-KG (2 g/kg) everyday. On GD16, pregnant mice were euthanized to collect fetal liver, and fetal body weight and crown-rump length were measured. Gene expression differences between the control group and the arsenic group were analyzed by transcriptome. The total triglycerides (TGs) and subtypes in fetal liver were detected by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Oil red O staining was used to observe the histopathological changes in the liver. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to detect the expression level of genes related to lipid synthesis, transport, and degradation, and phosphatidylinositol 3' -kinase/ protein kinase B (PI3K/AKT) in the liver of fetus. ResultsTranscriptomics analysis showed that 2 144 genes were downregulated and 1 675 genes were upregulated in the arsenic exposed fetal liver; body weight and crown-rump length were reduced (PTuKey<0.05); the level of hepatic TGs was elevated in arsenic group (PTuKey<0.05); oil-red O staining showed a significant increase in lipid droplets in arsenic group (PTuKey<0.01); the expression of lipid synthesis-related genes were significantly upregulated (PTuKey<0.05); the expression of β-oxidation-related genes and lipid degradation-related genes were downregulated (PTuKey<0.05); the expression of PI3K, AKT decreased(PTuKey<0.05). Compared with the arsenic group, the body weight and crown-rump length of fetus increased in the arsenic+α-KG group (PTuKey<0.05); the level of hepatic TGs decreased in the arsenic+α-KG group (PTuKey<0.05); oil red O staining showed lipid droplets significantly decreased (PTuKey<0.01); the expression of lipid synthesis-related genes were downregulated (PTuKey<0.05), the expression of β-oxidation-related genes and lipid degradation-related genes were upregulated (PTuKey<0.05); the expression levels of PI3K and AKT increased (PTuKey<0.05). Conclusionα-KG alleviated hepatic lipid deposition in offspring exposed to arsenic during pregnancy through activating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

Objective:
To understand the association of physical exercise willingness and insomnia with depressive symptoms among college students, so as to provide reference for improving depressive symptoms of college students.
Methods:
From October 2022 to April 2023, cluster sampling was used to recruit 11 101 college students from four colleges in Anhui Province. The questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the willingness to engage in physical exercise, insomnia and depressive symptoms of college students. The multivariate Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association of physical exercise willingness and insomnia with depressive symptoms of college students.
Results:
The prevalence of depressive symptoms among college students was 9.24%. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that college students who were passive participants/non participants in physical activity, or who experienced insomnia, had a higher likelihood of depressive symptoms compared to those who were active participants or did not experience insomnia ( OR =1.84, 2.07, 4.02, all P <0.01). College students who were passive participants or non participants in physical activity and concurrently experienced insomnia had a higher risk of depressive symptoms compared with those who were active participants or did not experience insomnia ( OR =1.87-8.39, all P <0.01). Gender stratified analysis showed that the combined effect of passive physical exercise and insomnia increased the risk of depressive symptoms in both male ( OR = 1.81 -9.87) and female college students ( OR =1.67-7.39) (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
Both physical exercise willingness and insomnia are associated with depressive symptoms in college students. In order to improve the depressive symptoms of college students, it is necessary to improve the enthusiasm of physical exercise and strengthen the education of sleep health awareness.

Objective To explore the changes of durability properties of reusable surgical gowns when used in dry and wet conditions. Methods Reusable surgical gowns made of single-layer polyester fiber or 3-layer composite material were selected as test samples, and a Martindale abrasion and pilling tester was used as the basic test platform and modified to form fixtures suitable for the wet state environment. The reusable surgical gowns underwent abrasion experiments in wet and dry conditions to observe the changes in their fiber structure, and were subjected to water penetration resistance and swelling strength tests. Results Visually the reusable surgical gowns had few changes of the microscopic textile fiber structure in dry and wet conditions, and the gowns made of single-layer polyster fiber gained advantages over the outer layers of those of 3-layer composite material in abrasion resistance with the same friction cycles. In dry and wet conditions, the hydrostatic pressure values of the gowns of single-layer polyster fiber gradually decreased with the increase of the degree of abrasion, which were always lower than those of the gowns of 3-layer composite material;the swelling strength of the gowns of single-layer polyster fiber was always greater than that of the gowns of 3-layer composite material, which decreased with the deterioration of the wear more significantly than that of the gowns of 3-layer composite material. Conclusion The reusable surgical gowns made of single-layer polyester fiber or 3-layer composite material have few differences in durability and protective properties at the early stages of ablation in dry and wet conditions. The durability of the gowns decreases as the degree of wear increases, while the trend of the decrease is slowing down until the fabric breaks down and completely loses its barrier effect.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2025,46(6):28-33]

Journal of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;48(5):684-689
The phlegm-dampness constitution is a physical state characterized by the accumulation of stagnant water and fluid in the body, leading to the formation of phlegm-dampness,a common underlying factor in various metabolic diseases. The occurrence of this metabolic disorder is closely related to the small intestine. The concept of small intestine separating purity from turbidity describes the essential functions of the small intestine in digestion, absorption, and excretion.Dysfunction of the small intestine leads to metabolic disorders of phlegm-dampness constitution through three aspects of the action of phlegm-dampness obstructing qi movement, internal accumulation of phlegm-dampness leading to damage to yang qi,and phlegm and turbidity stagnating in the small intestine without clearance. However, the microscopic mechanisms remain unclear. One key factor in metabolic regulation is incretin,an intestinal hormone secreted by endocrine cells in the small intestine, which plays an essential role in maintaining metabolic balance.Inspired by the prescription thought of national medical master WANG Qi,the Yiqi Jianyun Decoction was developed to regulate the phlegm-dampness constitution. This prescription integrates key therapeutic principles such as Banxia Xiexin Decoction, benefiting qi and warming yang,as Sijunzi Decoction with modification, which supports qi nourishment and yang warming, and rhubarb root and rhizome, which facilitates small intestine clearance. These components effectively regulate incretin levels and improve overall metabolism. This article aims to provide a new scientific interpretation of the small intestine separating purity from turbidity theory from the perspective of incretins, enriching the modern scientific connotation of the pharmacological mechanism of Yiqi Jianyun Decoction, and providing a novel theoretical basis and prescription thought for the clinical intervention of the phlegm-dampness constitution, diagnosis and treatment of metabolic diseases.

Objective:To explore the significance of any correlation between the cost of the rehabilitation provided to stroke survivors during their hospitalization and the functional levels attained, and to analyze factors influencing that correlation. Methods:The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Rehabilitation Set (ICF-RS) was used to evaluate the functioning of 304 stroke survivors on their days of hospital admission and discharge, as well as on their 10th day in hospital. The cost of their rehabilitation was computed, and demographic and clinical data were collected. A generalized estimation equation was used to analyze the changes in dysfunction with time and its risk factors. The relationship between functional levels and rehabilitation cost and its influencing factors were analyzed. Results:Length of stay, age≥60 and hemorrhagic stroke were significant risk factors for greater dysfunction among the stroke survivors. On the 10th day in hospital and the day before discharge (the 18th day), the frequency of severe dysfunction had decreased. The significant predictors of increased cost were severe or moderate dysfunction, the stage of stroke (sub-acute stage), and non-first rehabilitation. Conclusion:Functional level is a useful predictor of rehabilitation cost. It is influenced by the stage of stroke and non-first rehabilitation.
