ObjectiveTo investigate the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of human bocavirus (HBoV) in hospitalized children with acute lower respiratory tract infection (ALRTI) at a single-center children’s hospital in Shanghai, thereby providing evidence for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HBoV infection. MethodsA retrospective study was conducted on 19 537 hospitalized children with ALRTI at Shanghai Children’s Hospital from January 2021 to December 2023. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) combined with capillary electrophoresis was used to detect HBoV and 12 other common respiratory viruses /atypical pathogens. The positive detection rate, demographic characteristics (sex, age), temporal distribution (year, season) of HBoV, as well as the clinical characteristics of severe and non-severe pneumonia were analyzed. ResultsThe overall HBoV-positive rate was 2.57% (503/19 537), with 59.44% (299/503) being single infections and 40.56% (204/503) being co-infections. The positive detection rate was significantly higher in boys than that in girls (2.78% vs 2.33%, χ²=3.88, P=0.049). The highest infection rate was observed in toddlers, followed by infants (χ²=379.57, P<0.001). The positive rate peaked in 2021 and reached its lowest point in 2023 (χ²=45.49, P<0.001), with epidemics mainly prevalent in summer and autumn. The main clinical symptoms were cough (90.06%, 453/503), fever (75.94%, 382/503), and wheezing (39.96%, 201/503). Children with severe pneumonia showed a higher incidence of wheezing compared with the non-severe group (P<0.001), while underlying diseases and co-infections had no significant association with disease severity (P>0.05). ConclusionHBoV was an important pathogen of ALRTI in children, predominantly affecting infants and toddlers, with higher susceptibility in boys and seasonal peaks in autumn and summer. The main clinical manifestations included cough, fever, and wheezing, with wheezing being more prevalent in children with severe pneumonia.

Objective:To explore the psychological vulnerability characteristics of patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) based on symptom network analysis, and to provide evidence for maintining their psychological health. Methods:Using a cross-sectional survey method, from October 2023 to March 2024, a convenience sampling approach was employed to conduct a questionnaire survey among patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the general ward of the Cardiology Department at Peking University Third Hospital. The survey involved a general information questionnaire and Mental Vulnerability Questionnaire. The R language was used to construct a symptom network to describe the relationship between each symptom of patients′psychological vulnerability, and its centrality index was calculated. Results:A total of 260 post-PCI patients were enrolled, including191 males and 69 females, with a mean age of (62.38 ± 12.91) years and a total psychological vulnerability score of (47.25 ± 13.18). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the level of mental vulnerability was higher in patients with female gender ( β = 0.207, P = 0.001) and higher number of comorbidities/past history ( β = 0.126, P = 0.039). In the symptom network analysis, the symptoms with the highest node strength, tight centrality, and mediator centrality were "You often feeling unwell" ( rs = 1.25, rc = 0.003 45, rb = 2.61), "You always in a bad mood" ( rs = 1.15) and "You often have anxiety attacks" ( rs = 1.13) were second only to "You often feeling unwell" in the center of intensity. Conclusions:The core symptom of psychological vulnerability in post-PCI patients is "You often feeling unwell", and mental symptoms are in a more central position. Nursing staff should take mental symptoms as the target of intervention, and strengthen the holistic care for patients′physical-psychological-mental symptoms, so as to effectively reduce the level of psychological vulnerability of the patients, and to maintain their psychological health.

Chinese Medical Journal 2025;138(12):1424-1432
Anemia of chronic disease (ACD) is the most frequent clinical issue in patients with chronic disease. ACD is usually secondary to chronic kidney disease (CKD), cancer, and chronic infection, which is associated with poor health outcomes, increased morbidity and mortality, and substantial economic costs. Current treatment options for ACD are very limited. The discovery of the hypoxia-inducible factor-prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PHD) pathway made it possible to develop novel therapeutic agents (such as hypoxia-inducible factor-prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor, HIF-PHI) to treat ACD by stabilizing HIF and subsequently promoting endogenous erythropoietin (EPO) production and iron absorption and utilization. Thus, HIF-PHIs appear to open a new door for the treatment of ACD patients with a novel mechanism. Here, we comprehensively reviewed the latest advancements in the application of HIF-PHIs in ACD. Specifically, we highlighted the key features of HIF-PHIs on ACD, such as stimulation of endogenous EPO, handling iron metabolism, inflammation-independent, and prolonging lifespan of red blood cells. In conclusion, the success of HIF-PHIs in the treatment of ACD may expand the therapeutic opportunity for other types of anemia beyond renal anemia.

Chinese Medical Journal 2025;138(22):2907-2916
INTRODUCTION:
Lecanemab has shown promise in treating early Alzheimer's disease (AD), but its safety and efficacy in Chinese populations remain unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and 6-month clinical outcomes of lecanemab in Chinese patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild AD.
METHODS:
In this single-arm, real-world study, participants with MCI due to AD or mild AD received biweekly intravenous lecanemab (10 mg/kg). The study was conducted at Hainan Branch, Ruijin Hospital Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Patient enrollment and baseline assessments commenced in November 2023. Safety assessments included monitoring for amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) and other adverse events. Clinical and biomarker changes from baseline to 6 months were evaluated using cognitive scales (mini-mental state examination [MMSE], montreal cognitive assessment [MoCA], clinical dementia rating-sum of boxes [CDR-SB]), plasma biomarker analysis, and advanced neuroimaging.
RESULTS:
A total of 64 patients were enrolled in this ongoing real-world study. Safety analysis revealed predominantly mild adverse events, with infusion-related reactions (20.3%, 13/64) being the most common. Of these, 69.2% (9/13) occurred during the initial infusion and 84.6% (11/13) did not recur. ARIA-H (microhemorrhages/superficial siderosis) and ARIA-E (edema/effusion) were observed in 9.4% (6/64) and 3.1% (2/64) of participants, respectively, with only two symptomatic cases (one ARIA-E presenting with headache and one ARIA-H with visual disturbances). After 6 months of treatment, cognitive scores remained stable compared to baseline (MMSE: 22.33 ± 5.58 vs . 21.27 ± 4.30, P = 0.733; MoCA: 16.38 ± 6.67 vs . 15.90 ± 4.78, P = 0.785; CDR-SB: 2.30 ± 1.65 vs . 3.16 ± 1.72, P = 0.357), while significantly increasing plasma amyloid-β 42 (Aβ42) (+21.42%) and Aβ40 (+23.53%) levels compared to baseline.
CONCLUSIONS:
Lecanemab demonstrated a favorable safety profile in Chinese patients with early AD. Cognitive stability and biomarker changes over 6 months suggest potential efficacy, though high dropout rates and absence of a control group warrant cautious interpretation. These findings provide preliminary real-world evidence for lecanemab's use in China, supporting further investigation in larger controlled studies.
