Journal of Preventive Medicine 2025;37(5):516-520
Objective:
To examine the casual association between age at first sexual intercourse and gynecologic malignant tumors using Mendelian randomization (MR) approach.
Methods:
The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with age at first sexual intercourse were obtained from a meta-analysis of genome-wide association study (GWAS), and the SNPs related to gynecologic malignant tumors (ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer), and their subtypes were sourced from the IEU OpenGWAS database. Using age at first sexual intercourse as the exposure and gynecologic malignant tumors as the outcome, a MR analysis was performed with the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method. Heterogeneity was assessed using Cochran's Q test, horizontal pleiotropy was evaluated using MR-Egger regression and MR-PRESSO test, and bias was examined using funnel plots.
Results:
The Mendelian randomization analysis demonstrated that younger age at first sexual intercourse was significantly associated with an increased risk of low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (OR=0.553, 95%CI: 0.335-0.911), cervical cancer (OR=0.674, 95%CI: 0.466-0.974), endometrial cancer (OR=0.854, 95%CI: 0.730-0.999), and endometrioid carcinoma (OR=0.830, 95%CI: 0.690-0.998). No statistical association was found between the age at first sexual intercourse and ovarian cancer, high-grade serous ovarian cancer, mucinous ovarian cancer, endometrioid ovarian cancer, or non-endometrioid ovarian cancer (all P>0.05). Sensitivity analysis showed no evidence of undetected instrumental variable heterogeneity or horizontal pleiotropy (all P>0.05), and the funnel plot indicated no presence of bias.
Conclusion
Younger age at first sexual intercourse may be associated with an increased risk of certain gynecologic malignant tumors, highlighting the need to strengthen adolescent sex education.

The liver regenerative capacity is crucial for patients with end-stage liver disease following partial hepatectomy (PHx). The specific bacteria and mechanisms regulating liver regeneration post-PHx remain unclear. This study demonstrated dynamic changes in the abundance of Parabacteroides distasonis (P. distasonis) post-PHx, correlating with hepatocyte proliferation. Treatment with live P. distasonis significantly promoted hepatocyte proliferation and liver regeneration after PHx. Targeted metabolomics revealed a significant positive correlation between P. distasonis and β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHB), as well as hyodeoxycholic acid and 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid in the gut after PHx. Notably, treatment with BHB, but not hyodeoxycholic acid or 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, significantly promoted hepatocyte proliferation and liver regeneration in mice after PHx. Moreover, STAT3 inhibitor Stattic attenuated the promotive effects of BHB on cell proliferation and liver regeneration both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, P. distasonis upregulated the expression of fatty acid oxidation-related proteins, and increased BHB levels in the liver, and then BHB activated the STAT3 signaling pathway to promote liver regeneration. This study, for the first time, identifies the involvement of P. distasonis and its associated metabolite BHB in promoting liver regeneration after PHx, providing new insights for considering P. distasonis and BHB as potential strategies for promoting hepatic regeneration.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the association between acupuncture during controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) and the live birth rate (LBR) using different propensity score methods.
METHODS:
In this retrospective cohort study, eligible women who underwent a COH were divided into acupuncture and non-acupuncture groups. The primary outcome was LBR, as determined by propensity score matching (PSM). LBR was defined as the delivery of one or more living infants that reached a gestational age over 28 weeks after embryo transfer. The propensity score model encompassed 16 confounding variables. To validate the results, sensitivity analyses were conducted using three additional propensity score methods: propensity score adjustment, inverse probability weighting (IPW), and IPW with a "doubly robust" estimator.
RESULTS:
The primary cohort encompassed 9751 patients (1830 [18.76%] in the acupuncture group and 7921 [81.23%] in the non-acupuncture group). Following 1:1 PSM, a higher LBR was found in the acupuncture cohort (41.4% [755/1824] vs 36.4% [664/1824], with an odds ratio of 1.23 [95% confidence interval, 1.08-1.41]). Three additional propensity score methods produced essentially similar results. The risk of serious adverse events did not significantly differ between the two groups.
CONCLUSION
This retrospective study revealed an association between acupuncture and an increased LBR among patients undergoing COH, and that acupuncture is a safe and valuable treatment option. Objective To explore the significance of the toxicity mechanism of butyl benzyl phthalate(BBP)in prevention and treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. Methods In this study,we used network toxicology combined with molecular docking technology to screen the targets of BBP and those related to pulmonary fibrosis through PubChem,GeneCards and other databases, and analyzed the intersecting genes by using a Wayne diagram.Protein-protein interaction networks were constructed to screen the core targets, and the pathway mechanisms were revealed by Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. Finally, molecular docking using AutoDock was performed to verify the binding patterns of core targets and BBP.Results A total of 91 potential targets of BBP-induced lung fibrosis were screened, among which PTGS2 and CYP3A4 were the core targets(binding energies of-1.84 kcal/mol and-1.68 kcal/mol,respectively).Enrichment analysis showed that BBP regulated the fibrosis process through G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway, calcium signaling pathway and cyclic adenosine monophosphate signaling pathway.Molecular docking confirmed that BBP was stably bound to the core target through hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction. Conclusion This study provides preliminary insights into the molecular mechanism of BBP-induced pulmonary fibrosis through network toxicology, and PTGS2 and CYP3A4 may play key roles in BBP-induced pulmonary fibrosis, which provides a novel reference for the exploration of the mechanism of toxicant-disease association.

Objective:To explore the effects of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) combined with resistance training on stroke related muscle atrophy(SRS) based on propensity score matching (PSM) method. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 150 cases of SRS patients in our hospital from September 2022 to September 2024. The patients were divided into an observation group of 78 cases and a control group of 72 cases according to the treatment method. Using PSM method to balance the confounding factors before treatment in a 1:1 ratio, 40 cases were successfully matched in each group. The control group received resistance training, while the observation group received TEAS treatment in addition to the control group. Both groups received continuous treatment for 12 weeks. Before and after treatment, the MedTrack Length isokinetic muscle strength testing system was used to measure the patients' knee extension and flexion axis muscle strength values, and the body composition analyzer was used to measure the patients' muscle weight and muscle index. The Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Fugl Meyer Motor Function Scale (FMA), and Simplified Upper Limb Function Scale (STEF) were used to evaluate limb motor function. ELISA method was used to detect the levels of muscle growth inhibitor (MSTN), growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15), and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). The occurrence of adverse reactions during the treatment of two groups and the clinical efficacy was evaluated. Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 92.50% (37/40), while that of the control group was 75.00% (30/40), with statistical significance ( χ2=4.50, P=0.034). After treatment, the observation group showed higher levels of knee extension [(78.25 ± 6.11) Nm vs. (74.02 ±6.02) Nm, t=3.11], flexion axis muscle strength [(32.84 ± 4.11) Nm vs. (29.35 ± 3.94) Nm, t=3.88], muscle weight [(41.42 ± 3.06) kg vs. (38.29 ± 3.12) kg, t=4.53], and muscle index [(7.11±1.17) kg/m 2vs. (6.56 ± 1.05) kg/m 2, t=2.21] compared to the control group ( P<0.01 or P<0.05). After treatment, the BBS, FMA and STEF scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group ( t=4.57, 3.23,2.73, respectively, P<0.01), and the levels of serum MSTN [(46.34 ± 5.98) μg/L vs. (51.44 ± 6.04) μg/L, t=3.79] and GDF-15 [(67.44±7.21) μg/L vs. (72.28 ± 8.04) μg/L, t=2.83] in the observation group were lower than those in the control group after treatment ( P<0.01); the level of IGF-1 [(37.92 ±5.66) ng/L vs. (31.09 ± 4.22) ng/L, t=6.11] was higher than that of the control group ( P<0.01). During the treatment period, the incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was 10.00% (4/40), while in the control group it was 7.50% (3/40), without statistical significance ( χ2=0.16, P=0.692). Conclusion:TEAS combined with resistance training can improve muscle strength and weight in SRS patients, improve limb motor function, reduce serum markers related to muscle attenuation, and have good treatment safety.
