Objective To gain insights into the biological characteristics of different populations of Culex tritaeniorhynchus within and around the Yellow Sea wetland from the perspective of the occurrence of resistance, we investigated the levels of resistance to deltamethrin and kdr gene mutation in the wetland and its peripheral areas. Methods Specimens were collected from Cx. tritaeniorhynchus populations at two monitoring sites in the Rare Bird National Nature Reserve and Tiaozi Ni Wetland Scenic Area, and also from two populations in Yancheng City and the Liuhe District of Nanjing, and the resistance of these mosquitoes to deltamethrin was determined using the CDC biotest bottle method. For each concentration of deltamethrin assessed, a random subset of exposed specimens was selected for amplification of the kdr gene fragment, followed by Sanger sequencing to identify and analyze resistance-associated mutations. Results The LC50 levels of deltamethrin among mosquitoes from the four populations in Luhe, Yancheng, the Rare Bird National Nature Reserve and the Tiaozi Ni Wetland Scenic Area were 2.048 5, 7.798 2, 3.473 3, and 17.695 5 mg/mL, respectively, with corresponding concentrations of deltamethrin ranging from 0.005 to 5.000,0.050 to 50.000,0.050 to 25.000 and 0.050 to 50.000 mg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, the ranges of the KT50 values were 11.76-107.43, 67.05-216.30,29.77-107.43 and 28.40-329.51 min; the 1-h knockdown rates were 34.58%-99.15%, 9.52%-43.80%, 55.09%-73.01%, and 10.09%-68.07%; and the 24-h mortality rates were 12.15%-67.52%,9.52%-79.56%,13.17%-82.21%, and 11.01%-78.99%, respectively. With respect to kdr gene mutation, we assayed a total of 63,70,59, and 57 mosquitoes for the four populations, for which we detected L1014F mutation frequencies of 14.29%, 35.00%, 20.34%, and 31.58%, respectively, with a majority of these mutations being heterozygous for resistance. In addition, five adult mosquitoes were identified has having synonymous mutations at site 1011[i. e. , AAT(asparagine)mutation to AAC(asparagine)]. Conclusions Our findings revealed the clear resistance of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus to deltamethrin in the Yancheng region of the Yellow Sea wetland, and the resistance phenotype and kdr frequency of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus in the wetland environment were comparable to those of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus in the wetland environment, thereby indicating that the resistance of different populations of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus was homogeneous under the pressure of different insecticide selection within and around the wetland. However, the underlying mechanisms need to be further studied.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common diseases in elderly men, the incidence of which gradually increases with age and leads to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) are widely used for the treatment of BPH in China and some other countries. To explore the molecular mechanisms of CHMs for BPH, we conducted a review based on peer-reviewed English-language publications in PubMed and Web of Science databases from inception to December 31, 2023. This article primarily reviewed 32 papers on the use of CHMs and its active compounds in the treatment of BPH, covering animal and cell experiments, and identified relevant mechanisms of action. The results suggest that the mechanisms of action of CHMs in treating BPH may involve the regulation of sex hormones, downregulation of cell growth factors, anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects, inhibition of cell proliferation, and promotion of apoptosis. CHMs also exhibit α-blocker-like effects, with the potential to relax urethral smooth muscle and alleviate LUTS. Additionally, we also reviewed 4 clinical trials and meta-analyses of CHMs for the treatment of BPH patients, which provided initial evidence of the safety and effectiveness of CHMs treatment. CHMs treatment for BPH shows advantages as a multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway therapy, which can mitigate the severity of the disease, improve LUTS, and may become a reliable treatment option in the future.

6.Press needle exercise therapy for stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a randomized controlled trial.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2025;45(8):1042-1046
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the clinical efficacy of press needle exercise therapy for stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
METHODS:
Sixty patients with stable COPD were randomly assigned to an observation group (30 cases, 1 case dropped out) and a control group (30 cases, 2 cases dropped out). Basic treatment was applied to the two groups. The control group received pulmonary rehabilitation training, while the observation group received press needle exercise therapy. Press needle was applied at Dazhui (GV14), Danzhong (CV17), Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV4), Zhiyang (GV9) and bilateral Feishu (BL13), Gaohuang (BL43), Jueyinshu (BL14), Xinshu (BL15), Geshu (BL17), Pishu (BL20), Shenshu (BL23). During the press needle intervention, patients also underwent pulmonary rehabilitation training. Treatments were administered once every other day, three times a week, for 8 weeks. Pulmonary function indexes including forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1), FEV1 to forced vital capacity ratio (FEV1/FVC), and percentage of predicted FEV1 (FEV1%) were measured before and after treatment in the two groups. Additional assessments included the 6-minute walk test (6 MWT) and COPD assessment test (CAT) score. Clinical efficacy was also compared between the two groups.
RESULTS:
After treatment, both groups showed improvements in FEV1, FEV1/FVC, FEV1%, and 6 MWT (P<0.05), and reductions in CAT scores (P<0.05); the observation group showed higher FEV1, FEV1/FVC, FEV1%, and 6 MWT values, and lower CAT scores compared to those in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate in the observation group was 86.2% (25/29), higher than 60.7% (17/28) in the control group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
Press needle exercise therapy could effectively alleviate clinical symptoms, improve pulmonary function and exercise tolerance, and enhance quality of life in patients with stable COPD.

Hepatic encephalopathy is a neuropsychiatric syndrome secondary to severe liver disease.Recent studies have shown that the development of hepatic encephalopathy is closely associated with bile acid/short-chain fatty acid metabolic disorder. As the core theory of traditional Chinese medicine, the theory of Yin and Yang provides a unique perspective for analyzing the association between bile acids/short-chain fatty acids and hepatic encephalopathy.Bile acids function like Yang, governing the free flow of Qi and assisting in metabolic processes, while short-chain fatty acids belong to Yin,maintaining internal stability and conservation, preserving the intestinal barrier, and combating inflammation and toxins.Bile acids and short-chain fatty acids constrain each other and are interdependent to regulate the dynamic equilibrium of the gut-liver-brain axis.On this basis,by regulating the metabolic imbalance of bile acids and short-chain fatty acids,it is expected to restore the dynamic balance of Yin and Yang in patients with hepatic encephalopathy under the synergistic intervention of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine.
