Background: s/Aims: The critical view of safety (CVS) prevents bile duct injury, but severe inflammation hinders its achievement.This study evaluated the parkland grading scale (PGS) as a real-time intraoperative predictor of CVS attainment in a Southeast Asian population, establishing standardized clinical data for future artificial intelligence applications. Methods: This prospective observational study (January–June 2025) included 88 consecutive patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy by a single surgeon. PGS was assessed upon initial laparoscopic inspection. We analyzed correlations between PGS, CVS attainment (Strasberg’s criteria), operative time, and bail-out procedures using Spearman’s correlation and multivariate logistic regression. Results: Severe inflammation (PGS grade 4–5) was observed in 31.8% of patients. PGS exhibited a strong negative correlation with CVS score (p = −0.652; p < 0.001) and strong positive correlations with operative time and blood loss. A PGS threshold of 4 accurately predicted CVS failure (area under the curve = 0.863). Bail-out procedures were necessary in 11 cases (12.5%), all occurring in the PGS ≥ 4 group. Advanced age and diabetes mellitus were independent risk factors for CVS failure. Conclusions The PGS serves as a precise intraoperative early warning system. A score ≥ 4 indicates a significant risk of CVS failure, prompting safer bail-out strategies. Additionally, this study provides a standardized dataset vital for training future autonomous surgical risk assessment models.

Background: Functional constipation (FC) is considered as a common functional bowel disorder that have substantial impact on patient quality of life. Objectives: To study characteristics of FC and the need for treatment with traditional medicine of students in University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University. Materials and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 451 students from 9 academic majors at University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University. Using the Bristol Stool Form (BSF) Scale to characterize human stool and ROME III Diagnostic Questionnaire to assess constipation symptoms, using anxiety, depression, stress rating scale - DASS-21. Results: The prevalence of FC among students was 8.9% (40/451) according to ROME III criteria, female are higher than male (85.0% vs 15.0%). According to traditional medicine, Deficiency accounts for 65.0%, Excess 60.0%, Cold 42.5% and Heat 57.5%. Qi stagnation pattern accounts for 42.5%, Qi deficiency pattern 25.0%, large intestinal heat bind pattern 20.0%, blood deficiency pattern 10.0% and yang deficiency pattern 2.5%. The proportion of students who need for treatment with traditional medicine is 52.5%, acupress massage and traditional medicines are the two methods with the highest demand for treatment. Conclusion: FC among students in University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University are with relatively high prevalence. Most of them have manifestations of Excess and Deficiency, Qi stagnation pattern and Qi deficiency pattern are higher than the other. Demand for treatment of FC with traditional medicine is quite high, most of them need treatment with acupress massage and traditional medicines.

Background: Good sleep is important for health and overall quality of life. However, sleep disorders are currently widespread and have particularly serious consequences, especially for students. Objectives: Surveying sleep quality according to the Pittsburgh scale (PSQI) and find out some related factors according to traditional medicine of regular students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 421 regular students from 10 majors of the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: The percentage of students having poor sleep quality according to the PSQI scale was 57%. According to traditional medicine, heart blood deficiency accounted for the highest proportion with 30.4%, next are the deficiency of heart and spleen (22.1%), kidney yin deficiency (20.8%), qi deficiency of heart and gallbladder (14.6%) and stomach disharmony has the lowest rate with 12.1%. The percentage of students who need treatment with traditional medicine was 52.9%, acupress massage and herbal medicine were the two methods with the highest demand for treatment. Conclusion: Assessing sleep quality according to the PSQI scale the percentage of students with poor sleep quality was 57%. Heart blood deficiency accounted for the highest proportion. The demand for treatment of insomnia by traditional medicine was relatively high.
