Objectives: Osteoporosis is a silent disease with low screening rates in many developing countries. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system to screen osteoporosis from pelvic and hip radiographs in Vietnam. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study at a tertiary medical center in Central Vietnam in 2023. A total of 2000 consecutive pelvic and hip radiographs from patients aged ≥ 40 years were collected. After excluding poorquality images, 1987 radiographs were analyzed using an AI-based software designed to estimate bone mineral density (BMD) from plain radiographs and derive T-scores. Osteoporosis was defined as a T-score ≤ − 2.5. Patient characteristics, radiographic findings, and risk factors for osteoporosis were analyzed. Results: Among 1987 patients (mean age 66.4 ± 15.1 years; 41.3% men), osteoporosis was identified in 872 patients (43.9%). The prevalence increased with age and was higher in women than in men (58.7% vs 22.8%, P < 0.001). Osteoporosis was associated with femoral neck (OR = 3.8, 95% CI: 2.7–5.2) and intertrochanteric fractures (OR = 7.0, 95% CI: 4.5–11.0). Patients with lower T-scores had a higher risk of hip fractures, especially those with T-scores ≤ − 3.0 (OR = 11.5, 95% CI: 5.5–24.5). Conclusions AI-based analysis of pelvic and hip radiographs is a feasible and effective tool for osteoporosis screening in Vietnam. The prevalence of osteoporosis in this hospital-based setting was high, particularly among elderly women.AI-assisted screening may offer an accessible strategy for early detection of osteoporosis in resource-limited settings.

Despite of the widespread use of hydrogen and methane breath test, the variability in testing protocols, gas measurement techniques, and interpretation criteria continues to challenge the reproducibility and comparability across centers, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. The Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association hence presents the first Asian monograph guiding application and interpretation of breath test. The monograph was formulated according to the framework of indications, preparatory process, performance, and interpretation of results, as well as future direction for research.

Background/Aims: Chronic constipation is prevalent yet under-diagnosed across Asia, compromising quality of life and burdening healthcare systems. Cultural stigma, varied diets, and limited access to standardized diagnostic tools delay timely care. Methods: The Bali Chronic Constipation Roundtable in November 2024, brought together experts from 11 Asian countries. The group reviewed epidemiological data, analyzed multinational questionnaire on clinical practice pattern, and conducted structured discussions to identify key barriers and propose region-specific recommendations. Results: Chronic constipation prevalence varies across Asia, ranging from 1.8% in India to 16.6% in Japan, with women and the elderly disproportionately affected. Under-reporting persists owing to cultural taboos and widespread self treatment with laxatives and traditional medications. Although the Rome IV criteria remains the global standard, they may not fully reflect Asian symptom profiles, and diagnosis is limited by scarce motility laboratories. First line therapies such as dietary-fiber optimization and osmotic laxatives are widely available, but newer pharmacotherapies (prucalopride, linaclotide, lubiprostone, and elobixibat) remain costly and unevenly accessible. Biofeedback for dyssynergic defecation is underutilized due to limited availability. Experts recommend expanded regional research on to refine diagnostic criteria, coupled with enhanced physician education and public awareness. They advocate accessibility to second-line and novel therapies that incorporate culturally attuned regional guidelines, and improved access to gastrointestinal motility testing. Conclusions The Bali Chronic Constipation Roundtable highlighted Asia’s need for region specific diagnostics and management. Addressing diagnostic and treatment gaps will improve outcomes, while ongoing researcher clinician policy collaboration must standardize guidelines, advance research, and ensure equitable care across Asia.

Background: When the incidence of the chronic shoulder pain syndrome is increasing year by year, it is necessary to determine the effects of pain relief, recovery of joint disability, and impact on quality of life through clinical trial research when calculating the results of Turem treatment, which is one of the main methods of traditional medical treatment. Aim: To study the effects of traditional medicine chiropractic on pain relief, mobility improvement, joint function recovery, and quality of life in chronic shoulder pain syndrome. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted using a single-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) design. In the study, 60 clients were randomly selected from people suffering from of the shoulder joint pain, and group 1 received Turem treatment together with physical therapy, and group 2 received physical therapy. The results of the study were evaluated by shoulder pain (VAS score), muscle strength, range of motion of the shoulder joint with a goniometer, and the Disability of Arms, Shoulders, and Paws Questionnaire (DASH). The research was conducted in accordance with the appropriate ethical approvals (No. 2024/3-05), (No. 2024-18) and confirmed by an informed consent form. Clinical trial research results were processed using T-test, Independent T-test, repeated ANOWA test. Results: The average age of the participants in the study was 56.13±7.13 years in the treatment group and 53.87±8.05 years in the control group, and 55% were male and 45% female. When shoulder joint pain was evaluated by VAS assessment, the values before and after treatment and after 1 month of treatment in the turem treatment group and the control group decreased statistically significantly (p=0.000). There was a statistical difference between the results of the 2 study groups. When assessing muscle strength, no statistically significant difference was observed between the results of the turem treatment and control groups. When measuring the amplitude of the shoulder joint in the subjects, the amplitude of shoulder extension, abduction, external rotation, and inward rotation increased after the treatment, and compared to the two groups, the index of the turem treatment group increased with statistical significance (p=0.000). When assessed by the Hand, Shoulder, and Hand Dysfunction Questionnaire (DASH), the score of the questionnaire decreased significantly (p=0.000) before, after, and after 1 month of treatment in the turem treatment group and the control group. Turem treatment has been shown to reduce the rate of shoulder disability and improve function in chronic shoulder pain syndrome. Conclusion: Turem treatment for chronic shoulder pain syndrome can reduce shoulder pain, increase joint range, and improve muscle strength. Also, turem treatment reduced the rate of shoulder disability and improved function. Objectives: This study aimed to present the Asia-Pacific consensus on long-term and sequential therapy for osteoporosis, offering evidence-based recommendations for the effective management of this chronic condition.The primary focus is on achieving optimal fracture prevention through a comprehensive, individualized approach. Methods: A panel of experts convened to develop consensus statements by synthesizing the current literature and leveraging clinical expertise. The review encompassed long-term anti-osteoporosis medication goals, first-line treatments for individuals at very high fracture risk, and the strategic integration of anabolic and anti resorptive agents in sequential therapy approaches. Results: The panelists reached a consensus on 12 statements. Key recommendations included advocating for anabolic agents as the first-line treatment for individuals at very high fracture risk and transitioning to anti resorptive agents following the completion of anabolic therapy. Anabolic therapy remains an option for in dividuals experiencing new fractures or persistent high fracture risk despite antiresorptive treatment. In cases of inadequate response, the consensus recommended considering a switch to more potent medications. The consensus also addressed the management of medication-related complications, proposing alternatives instead of discontinuation of treatment. Conclusions This consensus provides a comprehensive, cost-effective strategy for fracture prevention with an emphasis on shared decision-making and the incorporation of country-specific case management systems, such as fracture liaison services. It serves as a valuable guide for healthcare professionals in the Asia-Pacific region, contributing to the ongoing evolution of osteoporosis management.

To further understand preventive measures for reducing cervical cancer in China, this study aimed to correlate screening attendance and regular screening with human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among Chinese females. Methods: This prospective questionnaire-based survey recruited Chinese females aged 25 or above in Hong Kong by random digit dialing telephone interviews in 2022. The survey studied women’s practice of cervical screening and adherence to regular screening. Variables including HPV vaccination status and attendance of physical check-ups were involved in the questionnaire. Screening uptake and screening adherence were the main outcomes, which were measured as the proportion of women who reported having attended a cervical screening and screened regularly, respectively. Results: Out of 906 valid respondents, the reported cervical screening uptake was over 70% among females aged 30 or above and particularly over 80% among women aged 35–59;however, the uptake was only 46% among those aged 25–29. Adherence to regular screening was 50%–60% across ages 25–59 years and dropped to approximately 40% for women older than 60 years. Both screening uptake and adherence were associated with HPV vaccination, with adjusted odds ratios of 2.37 and 2.23, respectively. A large proportion of regularly screened women may be overscreened for screening more frequently than recommended. Conclusion Responded Chinese females showed good cervical screening uptake but were moderately adherent to regular screening. Policymakers should emphasize the importance of regular screening and the recommended screening frequency by HPV vaccination status for better healthcare resource use.

The aging population is an important issue around the world especially in developed countries. Although medical advances have substantially extended life span, the same cannot be said for the duration of health span. We are seeing increasing numbers of elderly people who are frail and/or have multiple chronic conditions; all of these can affect the quality of life of the elderly population as well as increase the burden on the healthcare system. Aging is mechanistically related to common medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease, cognitive decline, and frailty. A recently accepted concept termed 'Accelerated Biological Aging' can be diagnosed when a person's biological age-as measured by biomarkers of DNA methylation-is older than their corresponding chronological age. Taurine, a conditionally essential amino acid, has received much attention in the past few years. A substantial number of animal studies have provided a strong scientific foundation suggesting that this amino acid can improve cellular and metabolic health, including blood glucose control, so much that it has been labelled one of the 'longevity amino acids'. In this review article, we propose the rationale that an adequately powered randomized-controlled-trial (RCT) is needed to confirm whether taurine can meaningfully improve metabolic and microbiome health, and biological age. This trial should incorporate certain elements in order to provide the much-needed evidence to guide doctors, and also the community at large, to determine whether this promising and inexpensive amino acid is useful in improving human metabolic health.
