Dietary habits and quality were surveyed using the Nutrition Quotient for the Elderly (NQ-E). Participants (n = 20) recorded videos of their meals, which were subsequently analyzed for food and nutrient intake and compared with intakes of participants of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) aged ≥ 80 yrs (n = 1,769), which were assessed via 24-h recall. RESULTS: Most participants (85.2%) consumed similar amounts of food at meals; however, only 65.1% ingested meals at regular times. The mean NQ-E score was 48.0 ± 11.9 and did not differ among regions. In Gwangju participants, subjective income was positively associated with diet quality. The mean energy and grain intakes per meal were lower, whereas the percent energy intake from protein and intakes of seaweed, meat and poultry, and iron were higher in GuGokSun and HwaDam participants with meal recordings than in KNHANES participants. CONCLUSION Among Korean adults aged ≥ 95 yrs, few regional variations exist in dietary quality and habits, although associations with diet quality vary within regions. Adults 95 yrs and older exhibit lower energy intake but higher intakes of seaweed, meat and poultry, and iron than adults aged ≥ 80 yrs. Notwithstanding, further longitudinal studies on centenarians are warranted.

Objective: This study evaluated the pharmacokinetics and bioequivalence of eight oral IVM formulations (B–I) compared with the innovator product (A) in dogs. Methods: Forty-five healthy dogs (mean body weight: 14.3 kg) were divided into nine groups (n = 5). Each received 6.2 µg/kg of IVM orally. Blood samples were collected up to 72 h post-dosing, and plasma IVM concentrations were quantified by liquid chromatography– mass spectrometry. Pharmacokinetic parameters were analyzed using a one-compartment model. Bioequivalence was assessed non-compartmentally using 90% confidence intervals for maximum concentration (Cmax ) and area under the plasma concentration–time curve (AUC72h ), with acceptance limits of 80–125%. Results: Absorption (Ka = 0.09–0.16 h −1 ), elimination half-life (T1/2 = 4.89–14.97 h), and systemic exposure (Cmax = 6.07–7.59 ng/mL) varied among formulations. Formulation C showed prolonged elimination (14.97 h) and higher exposure (AUC72h = 214.16 ng·h/ mL), whereas formulation H exhibited faster absorption but lower exposure (AUC72h = 114.36 ng·h/mL). Simulated dosing indicated that most formulations maintained plasma levels above the minimum effective concentration (0.2 ng/mL), except formulation E. Only formulation G met full bioequivalence with the reference product. Conclusions and Relevance: All formulations achieved plasma concentrations sufficient for prophylaxis, but only B, C, and G satisfied bioequivalence criteria. Larger sample sizes and standardized evaluation guidelines are recommended for multi-formulation bioequivalence studies.

In this report, we present a case of a radiotherapy-induced tracheoesophageal fistula treated with the fluoroscopy-guided insertion of a covered stent through the gastrostomy route using both the antegrade and retrograde approaches. The initial antegrade endoscopic and fluoroscopic stent insertion procedure failed due to severe esophageal stricture. Compared to the endoscopic approaches, fluoroscopy-guided radiologic procedures are generally less invasive and more successful because they allow for a better understanding of the anatomy outside the lumen during the procedure and enable the use of devices with smaller diameters.

We present a case of iatrogenic iliac vein rupture with venous thrombosis during total hip arthroplasty that was endovascularly treated with the insertion of covered and uncovered stents, aspiration, and balloon maceration of the thrombus. We describe in detail, with a schematic diagram, an endovascular treatment method that can be performed under local anesthesia alone and explain how to overcome the situation when the diameter of the covered stent is inadequate to cover the iliac vein.

In this case report, the authors present three cases of post-tracheostomy site bleeding successfully treated using embolization, supplemented by CT and angiography images. This report highlights that embolization can be a viable alternative when surgical or endoscopic interventions fail or are not applicable in cases of post-tracheostomy bleeding.

Purpose: This study investigated hand-washing practice among community-dwelling older adults during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and aimed to identify the impact of COVID-19-related concerns and depression on hand-washing practice. Methods: This was a secondary analysis of data extracted from the 2020 Community Health Survey. The primary data were collected through self-reporting from August 10 to September 8, 2020 in a cross-sectional study. The subjects consisted of 1,350 adults aged 65 or older living in J Province who participated in the 2020 Community Health Survey. Results: The factors affecting hand-washing practice among older adults were male gender (β = –.18, p < .001), age (β = –.07, p = .001), no education (β = –.20, p < .001) and elementary, middle, and high school graduation (β = –.15, p < .001) compared to a college or higher education, poor health perception (β = –.13, p < .001), COVID-19-related concerns (β = .08, p = .005), and depression (β = –.07, p = .001). To summarize, the factors negatively affecting hand-washing practice included male gender, lower education level, poor health perception, and depression, while the factors positively associated with hand-washing practice included COVID-19-related concerns. Conclusion These findings show the importance of considering these multifaceted determinants when designing targeted interventions and educational programs aimed at promoting hand-washing among older adults. Additionally, based on the relationship between hand-washing practice and COVID-19-related concerns and depression, interventions that can alleviate mental problems along with providing proper education are required.
