In December 2023, the Trauma Professional Committee of the American Society of Surgeons officially released the seventh edition of "Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient (2022 Stan-dards)". Compared to the sixth edition of the standards, the main updated content of the seventh edition includes ten aspects: (1) trauma centers need to meet new personnel configuration and qualification requirements, (2) trauma centers need to develop more structured and effective trauma treatment effectiveness improvement and patient safety plans, (3) trauma centers need to develop data quality plans, (4) trauma centers need to develop new diagnosis and treatment plans for specific patients, (5) trauma centers need to have new professional knowledge, (6) trauma centers need to meet new response time and resource availability standards, (7) trauma centers need to meet new academic and scientific requirements, (8) tertiary trauma centers need corresponding qualification certificates if providing neurological trauma treatment, (9) new requirements for pediatric trauma centers, (10) the fourth level trauma center standards. The research literature published by scholars in the field of trauma in the past decade has provided sufficient evidence-based medicine evidence for updating content. The article introduces and analyzes the updates in the seventh edition standards in light of the available evidence.

2.Training and cultivation of non-technical skills in gastrointestinal surgeons.
Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 2019;22(1):27-29
Non-technical skill (NTS) in gastrointestinal surgeon is an important part of surgical performance and surgical education. NTS is essential for safe and effective surgery. NTS has four aspects: situation awareness, decision making, communication and teamwork, and leadership. There is evidence that training and assessment of NTS of professional physicians is very important for doctors' career and plays an important role in improving medical quality and ensuring patient safety. The training and assessment of NTS is a great reference to the training of gastrointestinal surgeons in China. In addition, the establishment of a training system for professional gastrointestinal surgeons in line with China's characteristic as soon as possible will improve the overall quality of professional gastrointestinal surgeons in China and better serve the vast number of patients.

3.Effect of surgeons on palliative treatment for malignant tumors.
Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 2017;20(1):21-23
For advanced stage tumor patients who can not receive radical treatment, quite a part of them require surgical intervention. Surgeons play a important role and are still the main force in palliative treatment for tumors. But in present medical education system, training contents for surgeon involving palliative treatment are few. In fact, surgeons have responsibilities for improving the quality of life, ameliorating pain, preserving the dignity and relieving symptoms of patients in the palliative treatment of tumors. Surgeons should pay attentions to the communication with patients, play a part of clinical multidisciplinary team and apply reasonable surgical intervention approach. Education of palliative treatment for surgeons should also include medical humanistic concern, and the recognition of effects of medical humanity, ethics, dignity and religion on the recovery of tumor patients.

Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 2017;20(1):18-20
Colorectal cancer is a systemic disease that requires multidisciplinary treatment. The comprehensive quality of colorectal surgeon directly impacts on the efficacy of diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. Multidisciplinary teams help surgeons enhance their ability of evidence-based medicine, improve the quality of main specialty, expand the knowledge of other specialty, enhance the doctor-patient communication, and increase the research level. Thus, multidisciplinary teams can improve the comprehensive quality of colorectal surgeons.

5.Imperative trend towards the establishment of training, qualification, and certification system for colorectal and anal surgeons.
Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 2017;20(1):14-17
Compared to Europe and America, the specialization of colorectal and anal surgery in China started a bit late, and so far there has been no standardized residency program and expert-access system. This review introduces different training systems of colorectal and anal surgery residency in the United States, Europe, and Japan, aiming to provide references for the establishment of residency program in China, which is imperative. Firstly, national uniform identification standards for standardization training bases of colorectal and anal surgeons are required. And then based on these standards, colorectal and anal surgery residency training bases are identified by professional Association/Society. Secondly, the training subjects must be limited in graduates from formal medical school who have successfully completed residency program. Thirdly, training course should be set properly with the main purpose of mastering skills of clinical practice, and 2-4 years is a reasonable training period. Lastly, check and evaluation on colorectal and anal surgeons should be placed with great emphasis, and regarded as a prerequisite of engaging colorectal and anal surgery.
