Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are proposed to account for the progression, metastasis, and recurrence of diverse malignancies. However, the disorganized vasculars in tumors hinder the accumulation and penetration of nanomedicines, posing a challenge in eliminating CSCs located distantly from blood vessels. Herein, a pair of twin-like small-sized nanoparticles, sunitinib (St)-loaded ROS responsive micelles (RM@St) and salinomycin (SAL)-loaded GSH responsive micelles (GM@SAL), are developed to normalize disordered tumor vessels and eradicate CSCs. RM@St releases sunitinib in response to the abundant ROS in the tumor extracellular microenvironment for tumor vessel normalization, which improved intratumor accumulation and homogeneous distribution of small-sized GM@SAL. Sequentially, GM@SAL effectively accesses CSCs and achieves reduction-responsive drug release at high GSH concentrations within CSCs. More importantly, RM@St significantly extends the window of vessel normalization and enhances vessel integrity compared to free sunitinib, thus further amplifying the anti-tumor effect of GM@SAL. The combination therapy of RM@St plus GM@SAL produces considerable depression of tumor growth, drastically reducing CSCs fractions to 5.6% and resulting in 78.4% inhibition of lung metastasis. This study offers novel insights into rational nanomedicines designed for superior therapeutic effects by vascular normalization and anti-CSCs therapy.

Objective To explore the effects of butylphthalide on the apoptosis of SH-SY5Y cells induced by the 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium iodide (MPP+). Methods SH-SY5Y cells were cultured with butylphthalide in the dosage of 1 µmol/L, 10 µmol/L and 20 µmol/L for 2 hours, and with MPP+ for 24 hours. The viability of cells was measured with trypan blue. The mitochondrial membrane potential was detected with Rhodamine 123. The content of P53 protein was detected with ELISA. The expression of P53 and cytochrome C (CytC) were detected with Western blotting. Results The viability of SH-SY5Y cells increased with the dosage of butylphthalide (P<0.05), while the mitochondrial membrane potential and the expression of P53 and CytC decreased (P<0.05). Conclusion Butylphthalide can prevents the SH-SY5Y cells from the injury induced by MPP+, which may associate with the inhibition of apoptosis through the expression of P53 and CytC.

Objective To analyze the correlation between non-motor symptoms (NMS) and the quality of life in the mild Parkinson's disease (PD) patients of different genders.Methods 85 mild PD patients (H-Y stage 1～2) were investigated.The PD NMS Quest was used to assess NMS.The quality of life was assessed with SF-36 questionnaire.Results Stepwise linear regression analysis showed that nocturia,restless legs,depression,daytime sleepiness,decreased interest,smell taste problems were positively correlated with the score of life quality of male and pain,increased sweating,taste smell problems,sleep problems,changes in libido,decreased memory,diplopia influenced life quality score of female.The scores of SF-36 questionnaire of the male with PD were lower than that of female patients.Conclusions The nonmotor symptom (NMS) There was a gender difference about the influence that NMS has made on PD patients.The male's life quality were lower than that of female patients about mild PD patients.

Objective To evaluate the early appearance of SARS on chest CT scan and its role in the early diagnosis Methods Forty cases of SARS in keeping with the criteria of the Ministry of Health had chest CT scans within 7 days of onset of symptoms, and CR chest X-ray films were available as well These chest X-rays and CT images were retrospectively reviewed to determine if there were any abnormalities on the images The lesions on the chest CT images were then further analyzed in terms of the number, location, size, and density Results Positive abnormalities on chest CT scans were revealed in all 40 SARS cases Positive findings on CR chest films were showed in only 25 cases, equivocal in 6, and normal in 9 cases The main abnormalities seen on CT and X-rays were pulmonary infiltrations varied markedly in severity 70% cases had 1 or 2 lesions on chest CT scan, 30% cases had 3 or more lesions The lesions seen on chest CT scan tended to be ground-glass opacification, sometimes with consolidation which was very faint and inhomogeneous, easily missed on chest X-rays Typically the lesions were located in the periphery of the lung, or both central and peripheral lung, but very rare in a pure central location They were commonly in the shape of patch or ball Conclusions Chest CT scan is much more sensitive in detecting the lesions of the lung in SARS The early appearance of SARS on chest CT scan is characteristic but non-specific, indicating that chest CT scan plays a very important role in the early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of SARS
