ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate the effect of art therapy on the mental health of older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), based on International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. MethodsLiterature on art therapy for mental health of MCI older adults was retrieved from databases of CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, PubMed, ProQuest and Web of Science, between 2014 and 2024, and selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The quality of the literature was assessed using PEDro scale, and a systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guideline. ResultsA total of nine researches were included from China, Tanzania, Spain, Malaysia and Singapore, involving 763 individuals with MCI aged 60 or more (average 71.23). The types of art therapy interventions were visual arts therapy (painting, collage, paper-cutting, sculpture and modeling, etc.), expressive arts therapy (encompassing dance and music) and creative arts therapy (narrative creation), 30 to 120 minutes a time (majority of 60 minutes), one to four times a week (majority of two to four times), for six to 36 weeks (majority of six to twelve weeks). Health outcomes predominantly focused on mental health, such as anxiety and depression. ConclusionMost researches support that art therapy is effective on mental health of older adults with MCI, but there are disagreements in some researches, and more researches are needed.

Objective:The purpose of this study was to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) among individuals aged 6 years and above in Guangzhou from 2010 to 2023, with the intention that a scientific basis be provided for effective prevention and control measures in older age groups. Methods:Data on HFMD incidence among individuals aged 6 years and above in Guangzhou from 2010 to 2023 were collected and analyzed. Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the distributions and pathogen components of HFMD cases in Guangzhou residents aged 6 years and above. Spatial autocorrelation analysis and Getis-Ord Gi* analysis were conducted to identify the spatial clustering patterns of HFMD at the street town level. Results:From 2010 to 2023, the gender ratio of HFMD cases in persons aged 6 and above was 1.49∶1 in Guangzhou. The average annual incidence rate of HFMD among individuals aged 6 years and above in Guangzhou was 25.75 per 100 000. Furthermore, the reported incidence rate indicated an increased tendency. The annual incidence showed a bimodal distribution, with the main peak occurring from May to July and the secondary peak from September to October. HFMD incidence rates vary by townships, with hotspots clustered in urban and urban-rural regions. The dominant pathogen shifts from year to year. Enterovirus 71 (EV71) was the prevalent strain in 2010, followed by other enteroviruses and Coxsackievirus (CV)-A16 from 2011 to 2016. Since 2017, CV-A6 has steadily become the major pathogen. Conclusions:The incidence of HFMD cases among individuals aged 6 years and above in Guangzhou increased generally from 2010 to 2023, with hotspots localized in urban and urban-rural areas. The pathogen composition altered dramatically, with the proportion of EV71 dropping overall, while CV-A6 eventually became the dominating strain. Therefore, it is imperative to focus on the prevention and control of HFMD in this age group, especially by strengthening measures in areas with high prevalence.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of four-dimensional traction in elderly patients with degenera-tive lumbar spinal stenosis(DLSS),focusing on changes in lumbar muscle morphology and mechanical properties. Methods Elderly patients with DLSS admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from January 2022 to February 2024 were enrolled.Based on the treatment method, they were categorized into the study group(muscle exercise combined with four-dimensional traction,n=40)and the control group(routine muscle exercise,n=40).All participants underwent a 4-week treatment regimen and subsequently received multimodal ultrasound examinations. The morphology and mechanical properties of the lumbar muscle group, lumbar range of motion, walking distance in intermittent claudication,Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),and Oswestry Disability Index(ODI)scores were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the study group exhibited significantly greater improvements in multifidus muscle thickness,circumference,cross-sectional area, pressure pain threshold, and lumbar range of motion(P<0.05).In contrast, the shear wave velocity(SWV),Young's modulus, muscle tension, and flexion-extension ratio of the multifidus muscle were significantly lower in the study group(P<0.05).Additionally,the walking distance in intermittent claudication for the study group was markedly longer(P<0.05).During the 12-month follow-up period after treatment, the VAS and ODI scores of the study group remained significantly lower(P<0.05).Conclusion Four-dimensional traction in combination with muscle exercise can effectively alleviate clinical symptoms, enhance muscle function, and improve mechanical properties in elderly patients with DLSS.

Objective To observe the effect of spleen-warming and kidney-tonifying therapy on Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling pathway of cerebral infarction sequelae patients. Methods A total of 60 cerebral infarction sequelae patients with spleen and kidney(yang) deficiency were divided into control group and treatment group, 30 cases in each group. The two groups were given function rehabilitation training following by the theory of modern rehabilitation medicine, and additionally the treatment group was treated with spleen-warming and kidney-tonifying herbs orally. The treatment period for the two groups averaged 3 months. Before and after treatment, the scores of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptoms and signs, peripheral blood TLR4 mRNA expression level, and the inflammation-related factors in the two groups were observed, and the observation parameters were compared with 30 healthy volunteers. Meanwhile, the changes of modern rehabilitation evaluation indexes were also evaluated before and after treatment. Results (1) After treatment, the Fugl-Meyer scores for motor function and Modified Barthel Index(MBI) scores for activities of daily living in the treatment group were obviously increased(P < 0.05 or P < 0.01 compared with those before treatment); the MBI scores in the control group was much increased(P < 0.05 compared with those before treatment), but the Fugl -Meyer scores only showed an increasing trend(P > 0.05). (2) After treatment, the predominant symptoms and signs of hemiplegia, facial distortion and dysphasia in the two groups were much improved(P < 0.01 compared with those before treatment), and the improvement in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group(P < 0.05). The control group had no significant effect on relieving the symptoms and signs of dizziness and blurred vision, numbness of limbs, spontaneous sweating, shortness of breath and weakness, and darkish tongue(P > 0.05 compared with those before treatment); the treatment group had obvious effect on the above symptoms and signs, and the effect was superior to that in the control group(P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).(3) For the inflammation-related factors, tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α) level in the treatment group was much decreased and even arrived to the normal level(P > 0.05), and TNF-α level in the control group was decreased but did not arrive to the normal level(P < 0.05); levels of interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6 and TLR4 mRNA in the two groups were decreased but did not arrive to the normal(P < 0.01), and the decrease in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group(P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). (4) During the treatment period, no obvious adverse effect was found in the two groups. Conclusion Oral use of spleen -warming and kidney –tonifying Chinese medicine combined with modern rehabilitation therapy is effective for the treatment of the sequelae of cerebral infarction patients by relieving the clinical TCM symptoms, and one of the therapeutic mechanisms is probably related with the TLR4 signaling pathway through regulating the expression of inflammatory factors.
