Objective To understand mosquito density, species composition, and seasonal variations around the Beijing Capital International Airport(BCIA)and provide scientific evidence for mosquito-borne disease prevention and control. Methods Meteorological data were collected from 2016 to 2022, and mosquito density was monitored at seven surveillance sites around the BCIA from May to October each year using CO2-baited mosquito traps to analyze the relationship between mosquito density and meteorological factors. Results In total,68 518 female mosquitoes were captured, with a mosquito density of 10.20 per light · hour. The dominant species was Culex pipiens pallens(73.90%), followed by Aedes albopictus(9.71%)and Ae. vexans(9.29%);the mosquito density was highest in 2016(14.8 per light·hour)and lowest in 2022(4.46 per light·hour). Significant statistical differences were observed in mosquito density among different species(F=18.118, P<0.05). The density of Cx. pipiens pallens and other mosquito species showed a mutually exclusive trend; the peak of mosquito density varied based on years and habitats, with significant statistical differences in mosquito density among different habitats(F=8.504, P<0.05). The highest mosquito density was observed near the Wenyu River(21.50 per light·hour), whereas the lowest was recorded at the BCIA construction site(2.44 per light· hour). The monthly average temperature(r=0.595), monthly average highest temperature(r=0.575), and monthly average lowest temperature(r=0.624)showed moderate positive correlations, whereas the monthly average air pressure(r=-0.484)showed a moderate negative correlation. The monthly average minimum temperature was included in the regression model(F=25.575, P<0.000), and the equation Y=1.029X4-8.181 was used. The monthly average air pressure 2 months prior(b=-2.418, β=-1.619, P<0.05)and the monthly average relative humidity(b=-0.739, β=-1.201, P<0.05)significantly negatively predicted the mosquito density. Notably, the regression equation used was y=2526.170+(-2.418)X9+(-0.739)X13. The exposure-response analysis revealed that the density of mosquitoes was not linearly related to the average monthly air pressure, rainfall, and duration of sunshine. Conclusions The dominant mosquito species around the BCIA was Cx. pipiens pallens, Ae. albopictus, and Ae. vexans. During the control of Cx. pipiens pallens, the impact on other mosquito species must also be considered. Environmental management, breeding sites, and scientific use of pesticides should be prioritized based on the activity periods of mosquitoes. Further studies on mosquitoes and meteorological factors should be conducted to provide references and novel avenues for mosquito control.

ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate the regulatory effects of microcapsules with different matrix stiffness on the survival, proliferation, adhesion, and osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), to further explore the relationship between matrix stiffness and MSCs osteogenic behavior, and to evaluate the in vivo histological responses and osteogenic-related protein expression of the microcapsules using an animal subcutaneous implantation model. MethodsIn this study, three-dimensional carbon nanofiber (CNF)/sodium alginate (SA) microcapsules with different matrix stiffness were constructed. By adjusting the CNF content, three groups of microcapsules with stiffness values of 27.05, 35.90, and 52.40 kPa were prepared, and their physicochemical properties, including morphology, mechanical properties, particle size, chemical structure, and degradation properties, were characterized. The effects of these microcapsules with different stiffness on the survival, adhesion, and osteogenic differentiation of MSCs were evaluated. Live/dead staining was used to observe cell survival and distribution in the microcapsules, while alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and the expression of osteopontin (OPN) and osteocalcin (OCN) were examined to assess osteogenic differentiation. Immunofluorescence staining was further performed to observe the expression of Yes-associated protein (YAP) and integrin β1 under different stiffness conditions. In addition, a rat subcutaneous implantation model was used to evaluate the in vivo tissue compatibility of the microcapsules. Histological staining and immunohistochemical analysis were carried out to examine local tissue responses and the expression of osteogenic-related proteins. ResultsThe results showed that all three groups of microcapsules exhibited regular and uniform morphology and similar particle size, and all groups showed good degradability. Except for the differences in mechanical properties, no obvious differences were found in the other physicochemical properties among the three groups. Live/dead staining indicated that all groups of microcapsules had good cytocompatibility. MSCs in the low-stiffness group were mostly round, whereas cells in the medium- and high-stiffness groups showed more obvious spreading. Higher matrix stiffness was more favorable for MSC adhesion, growth, and survival. ALP staining and quantitative analysis showed that ALP activity increased significantly with increasing matrix stiffness. The expression of the osteogenic-related proteins OPN and OCN also increased with increasing stiffness, and the high-stiffness group showed the strongest positive signals. Immunofluorescence results further indicated that YAP and integrin β1 fluorescence signals tended to increase in MSCs with increasing matrix stiffness, suggesting that matrix stiffness may influence MSC osteogenic differentiation through stiffness-related cell adhesion and mechanotransduction. In vivo experiments showed that all three groups of microcapsules exhibited good histocompatibility after subcutaneous implantation, although different degrees of degradation and local tissue response were observed. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the expression levels of OPN and OCN increased with increasing matrix stiffness, and the high-stiffness group exhibited higher expression of these osteogenic-related proteins. ConclusionCNF endows SA microcapsules with tunable matrix stiffness. While maintaining good biocompatibility, the high-stiffness microenvironment can effectively promote the adhesion and osteogenic differentiation of MSCs, accompanied by increased ALP activity and enhanced OPN and OCN expression. The increased YAP and integrin β1 fluorescence signals in the high-stiffness group further indicate that matrix stiffness is closely related to cellular mechanical responses. These findings provide a three-dimensional cell carrier with potential application value for MSC delivery and bone tissue regeneration based on mechanical microenvironment regulation.

Objective:To investigate the longitudinal patterns and influencing factors of platelet counts among healthy adults in Sichuan Province from 2010 to 2021, and to inform the establishment of region-specific reference intervals for platelet counts. Methods:This study is a retrospective study. A total of 7 808 healthy adults who underwent annual physical examinations at West China Hospital, Sichuan University, between January 2010 and December 2021 were included. All participants were permanent Chengdu residents and completed consecutive complete blood count tests. Group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) was used to identify distinct trajectories of platelet count over the ten-year period. One-way analyses were then conducted to compare baseline demographic characteristics (sex and age) among the different trajectory groups. Results:Among 7 808 participants, 4 589 (58.8%) were male and 3 219 (41.2%) were female. Four platelet count trajectories were identified by GBTM: steadily increasing group [27.4% (2 139/7 808)], early increase-plateau group [44.1% (3 445/7 808)], early decrease-subsequent increase group [5.4% (422/7 808)], and steadily decreasing group [23.1% (1 802/7 808)], with an average growth rate of 3.3%, 1.6%, 0.7%, and -0.6%, respectively. There were statistically significant differences in both sex and age distributions among the four trajectory groups. Sex-distribution differed significantly across the four trajectory groups ( χ2=73.3, P<0.001). The male proportions in the four trajectory groups were 59.6% (1 275/2 139), 62.8% (2 165/3 445), 48.1% (203/422), and 52.5% (946/1 802), respectively. The baseline ages were 45 (36, 55), 43 (35, 53), 50 (40, 60), and 47 (39, 58) years, respectively (H=121.0, P<0.001). Conclusions:Healthy adults in Sichuan Province exhibit four longitudinal trajectories of platelet counts: steadily increasing, early increase-plateau, early decrease-subsequent increase, and steadily decreasing. The two trajectories characterized by rising platelet counts (steadily increasing group and early increase-plateau group) exhibited higher male predominance and lower median ages, whereas the early decrease-subsequent increase group and the steadily decreasing group exhibited lower male proportions and higher median ages. Therefore, while establishing reference intervals and developing health management strategies for platelet counts, it is essential to account for the sex, age characteristics and the population′s dynamic changes.

Objective To compare the biomechanical characteristics of small-angle rotation force versus traditional buccal-lingual force in the extraction of vertically impacted mandibular third molars with single conical roots by a three-dimensional finite element analysis. Methods A patient with a vertical mandibular third molar featuring a conical single root was selected.Spiral CT data were acquired and three-dimensional finite element analysis models were constructed using software including MIMICS,Geomagic Wrap, and Solidworks.ANSYS was utilized to simulate both the small-angle rotation and buccal-lingual forces for tooth extraction.Comparative an-alyses of the biomechanical characteristics of these two forces were conducted by measuring Von-Mises stress and strain distribution. Results In the small-anglerotation force,high-stress and strain areas of tooth, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone were predomi-nantly concentrated at the cervical region and the upper half of the root, with a more uniform distribution and a broader horizontal diffu-sion range compared to the vertical diffusion range. In the buccal-lingual force,high-stress and strain areas were primarily located at the cervical region and the lower half of the root, particularly at the apical area, with a broader vertical diffusion range compared to the hor-izontal diffusion range. The lingual cortical plate and alveolar bone experienced significantly lower stress in the small-angle rotation force than that in the buccal-lingual force. The overall stress values within the periodontal ligament were markedly higher in the small-angle rotation force, with a more uniform distribution. Conclusion The small-angle rotation force is more likely to tear the periodontal liga-ment and reduce trauma associated with tooth extraction compared to the buccal-lingual force in surgical extraction of vertically impacted mandibular third molars with single conical roots.

In June 2022, the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing published the use of a convex pouching system in the postoperative period: a national consensus (hereinafter referred to as the "consensus") . The consensus recommends the use of convex ostomy products immediately after surgery and within the first six months following ostomy formation. It also establishes principles for selecting the most appropriate ostomy product for patients. This article interprets the background and significance of the consensus and highlights its key points, aiming to provide a reference for the standardized use of convex ostomy products postoperatively.

The classification of stoma skin barriers varies based on their specific features. The curvature design of convex skin barriers provides a secure and effective seal for patients with flat, retracted stomas or peristomal skin folds. The secure sealing ability of convex skin barriers is attributed to several critical structural components. Although convex skin barriers offer many clinical advantages, there is currently no unified standard for measuring their characteristics, resulting in confusion among healthcare professionals when selecting stoma care products. To address this issue, the 2021 International Stoma Care Expert Meeting proposed the Expert Consensus on Characteristics of Convex Skin Barriers and Clinical Application, which clearly defines five essential properties and clinical application guidelines for convex barriers. However, as most consensus contributors are from Europe and North America, its applicability in Chinese healthcare settings may be limited. Therefore, this paper provides a detailed interpretation of the five characteristics and clinical application statements of convex skin barriers, aiming to offer practical guidance to clinical nurses in selecting appropriate convex products and managing stoma-related complications.

Nonunion of osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVF), predominantly affecting the elderly, can lead to intractable pain, vertebral collapse, progressive kyphotic deformity, and neurological impairment, significantly compromising patients′ quality of life. There exists considerable debate on diagnosis and management of OVF, encompassing key issues such as clinical diagnosis and staging criteria for nonunion, surgical indications and procedure selection, and postoperative rehabilitation planning. Currently, there lacks standardized clinical guideline and expert consensus on the diagnosis and management of OVF nonunion in China. To address this gap, Minimally Invasive Surgery Group of Chinese Orthopedic Association, Osteoporosis Committee of Chinese Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee for Osteoporosis of Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine and Minimally Invasive Orthopedic Surgery Branch of China Association for Geriatric Care jointly organized domestic experts in spinal surgery, endocrinology, and rehabilitation to formulate the Clinical guideline for the diagnosis and treatment for nonunion of osteoporotic vertebral fractures ( version 2025), based on existing literature and clinical experience and adhering to principles of scientific rigor and practicality. The guideline provided 13 evidence-based recommendations encompassing diagnosis and treatment of OVF nonunion, aiming to standardize its clinical management.
