Monotropein is a compound classified into iridoid which is found in herbaceous plants Morindae officinalis. It possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-osteoarthritic activities. Previous study indicates that monotropein may have the potential to combat cardiovascular disease, although the related mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we constructed the model of atherosclerosis by oxidized low density lipoprotein-induced vascular smooth muscle cells and LDLR –/–mice given high-fat diet to investigate the effects of monotropein on atherosclerosis. Our results showed that monotropein treatment significantly reduced the area of atherosclerotic plaques and necrotic cores in mice, inhibited the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells, and reduced inflammatory responses and oxidative stress, which in turn alleviated atherosclerosis. In addition, we found that monotropein reduced the expression levels of P-NF-κB and P-AP-1. In conclusion, our data suggest that monotropein inhibited the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells by mediating the activity of NF-κB, AP-1, reducing the level of inflammation and oxidative stress, and thus resisting the development of atherosclerosis. These findings demonstrate the efficacious therapeutic impact of monotropein on atherosclerosis and elucidate its specific target.

Journal of Navy Medicine 2025;46(8):759-762
Objective To investigate the anxiety and its related factors in medical staff during field training,so as to provide evidence for psychological education before field training. Methods A total of 81 medical staff who participated in field training were recruited in this cross-sectional study as research objects. The Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)and self-compiled questionnaires of related factors were used to measure the general states of the staff.Univariate analysis was used to screen relevant variables that affect anxiety, and then a logistic regression model was used for multivarate analysis to determine independent influencing factors. Results The detection rate of anxiety was 14.81%in the research objects. There were significant differences in the degree of anxiety among the medical staff with different variables such as gender, the number of exercises attended, childlessness, parental physical condition, tolerable training time, pastime activities, and personal title(P<0.05).Multivariate regression analysis indicated that gender and parental physical status were independent factors affecting anxiety(P<0.05).Conclusion During field training,a part of medical staff has anxiety, which may affect by multi-factors such as personal, family, and training environment. Therefore, psychological education and counseling before field training should be performed from multiple aspects.

Objective To understand the cognition status of medical scientific research ethics review norms among physicians in tertiary hospitals and the factors influencing their awareness. Methods A survey was conducted using a questionnaire.A total of 2 067 questionnaires were distributed to physicians in tertiary hospitals in Henan Province, with an effective response rate of 81.95%.Results(1)Physicians'awareness rate of Regulations on Ethical Review of Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects reached 69.01%,while that of Opinions on Strengthening Ethical Governance in Science and Technology was only 34.30%.A total of 310 respondents were aware of all six medical research ethics-related regulations.(2)1 153 respondents were familiar with all four basic principles of medical ethics.(3)78.98%of physicians had received training in medical research ethics knowledge.Learning through medical school and special lectures made it easier for physicians to understand medical research ethics knowledge(P<0.05).(4)The results of binary logistic regression analysis showed that educational level, membership in an ethics committee, and receipt of ethics training significantly influenced physicians'understanding of medical research ethics knowledge(P<0.05).Conclusion Physicians have low awareness of newly issued medical research ethics review norms, targeted training is needed to enhance physicians'research ethics literacy.
