1.Treatment of Colorectal Cancer with Traditional Chinese Medicine Based on Hippo Signaling Pathway: A Review

Colorectal cancer, a leading malignant gastrointestinal tumor globally in terms of incidence and mortality, has seen a consistent annual rise in newly diagnosed cases. While conventional therapies like radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery are available, problems such as lack of early diagnosis, poor prognosis, and drug resistance remain significant burdens for patients. Given the complex and diverse pathogenesis of colorectal cancer, there is an urgent clinical need for safe, effective, reliable, and multi-targeted therapeutic strategies. The Hippo signaling pathway, closely linked to mechanisms like tumorigenesis, cancer cell invasion, migration, and drug resistance, extensively participates in the occurrence and development of colorectal cancer, so targeting the signaling pathway for cancer prevention and treatment has become a crucial research direction in recent years. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) offers multi-faceted, multi-pathway, and multi-target advantages and becomes an important therapy for colorectal cancer by enhancing patients' immunity, improving the life quality, and prolonging survival. Studies show that the active components of TCM, including flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols, alkaloids, quinones, lignans, and saponins, as well as TCM compounds such as modified Sijunzi decoction, Jiedu Sangen decoction, Jianpi Jiedu compound, and Quyu Jiedu decoction, exhibit significant targeting effects on the Hippo signaling pathway. These TCMs can exert an anti-colorectal cancer effect through various mechanisms, such as inducing cancer cell autophagy and apoptosis, inhibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition, reversing drug resistance of the tumor, and blocking the cancer cell cycle. This paper reviewed and analyzed Chinese and international research on the action mechanisms of TCM in regulating the Hippo signaling pathway for the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer with a comprehensive overview presentation, aiming to provide new references and ideas for the clinical application of TCM and the development of new pharmacological agents in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.

3.Research progress on the clinical treatment methods and mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine for pediatric allergic rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is one of the most common chronic non-infectious inflammatory diseases in children. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) employs a comprehensive therapeutic system integrating treatment by stages and syndrome differentiation and treatment, demonstrating significant advantages in the management of pediatric AR. This article systematically reviews the clinical treatment methods and underlying mechanisms of TCM for pediatric AR in recent years. It is found that internal therapies (such as herbal formulas or Chinese patent medicines like Xiaoqinglong decoction, Yiqi tuomin decoction), external therapies (including intradermal needles, acupoint application, tuina, and herbal nasal therapy), as well as combined internal and external approaches (oral herbs combined with acupoint application), have demonstrated significant effects in alleviating clinical symptoms, improving immune indicators, and reducing recurrence rates in children with AR. The underlying mechanisms are primarily associated with the regulation of signaling pathways such as Toll-like receptor/nuclear factor-kappa B and mitogen-activated protein kinase, thereby modulating immune balance, suppressing inflammatory responses, inhibiting pyroptosis, reducing mucus secretion, and promoting nasal mucosal repair.
4.Additional benefits of pelvic floor proprioceptive training combined with conventional therapy in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence.

OBJECTIVES:
Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition among women that severely impairs quality of life. Pelvic floor proprioceptive training (PFPT) has attracted increasing attention for its potential to enhance pelvic floor muscle function and alleviate SUI symptoms. This study aims to observe and compare the clinical efficacy of PFPT combined with electroacupuncture, electrical stimulation, and biofeedback therapy versus conventional therapy consisting of electroacupuncture, electrical stimulation, and biofeedback alone in women with SUI, and to explore the role of PFPT in improving symptom and functional outcomes.
METHODS:
In this randomized controlled trial, 72 women with mild to moderate SUI were recruited from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, between December 2021 and October 2023. Participants were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=36) or a control group (n=36). Both groups received health education. The control group underwent electroacupuncture combined with electrical stimulation and biofeedback therapy, while the experimental group additionally received PFPT 3 times per week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome was assessed using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF). Secondary outcomes included pelvic floor muscle strength, bladder neck mobility, and balance ability. The ICIQ-SF was reassessed at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months post-treatment.
RESULTS:
Both groups showed statistically significant improvements in all parameters after treatment (all P<0.05). However, there were no statistically significant differences between groups in most measures (all P>0.05). The experimental group demonstrated longer single-leg stance duration with eyes closed than the control group (left leg: P=0.026; right leg: P=0.006), with a significant increase from baseline (P<0.001). At 6 months post-treatment, the cure rate in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P=0.037).
CONCLUSIONS
Conventional therapy effectively improves SUI symptoms, but adding PFPT provides notable additional benefits, including enhanced balance ability and sustained mid-term cure rates. These findings suggest that PFPT is a valuable adjunct to standard SUI management strategies.

5.Periodontic-orthodontic-orthognathic combined treatment of adult Class Ⅱ skeletal malocclusion with idiopathic gingival fibromatosis: a case report.

Idiopathic gingival fibromatosis is a rare, benign condition of unknown etiology characterized by extensive gingival overgrowth. This case reports a severe skeletal Class Ⅱ adult female patient with idiopathic gingival fibromatosis. The patient underwent multidisciplinary treatment involving periodontics, orthodontics, and orthognathic surgery, resulting in remarkable crown height elongation, substantial improvements in occlusal function and aesthetics, and stable long-term follow-up outcomes. This case provides a reference for future clinical practice.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors with high incidence and mortality rates worldwide, which brings a huge burden to the physical and mental health and socio-economic life of patients. The adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway serves as the regulatory center of cellular energy metabolism and is closely associated with the biological activities of HCC cells, including autophagy, apoptosis, and angiogenesis, and it has become a hot topic in current cancer research. Traditional Chinese medicine drugs are abundant in natural components such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenols and have the characteristics of multiple targets, pathways, components, and hierarchies. By targeting the AMPK signaling pathway, these components can be used alone or in combination with conventional antitumor therapies to exert an anti-tumor effect on HCC from various aspects. This article reviews and summarizes the extracts of traditional Chinese medicine that target the AMPK signaling pathway for the prevention and treatment of HCC, in order to provide a theoretical basis and a reference for the clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of HCC and the development of related drugs.
7.Efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin type A injection combined with sacral neuro-modulation in the treatment of idiopathic non-obstructive urinary retention

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) injection into the external urethral sphincter in combination with sacral neuromodulation (SNM) for the treatment of idiopathic non-obstructive urinary retention (INOUR). Methods A total of 57 INOUR patients treated in our hospital during May 2022 and May 2024 were enrolled. Patients were divided into the BTX (n=30) and combined groups (n=27) according to whether they chose SNM after BTX-A injection. The baseline, postoperative 1-month and 6-month consecutive 3-day voiding diaries, quality of life score (QoL), and post-void residual (PVR), preoperative and postoperative 1-month urodynamic results, and postoperative complications were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results One month after surgery, the average number of voiding frequency per day and PVR were lower in both groups than those before surgery (P<0.05), while the average daily urine volume and maximum flow rate (MFR) were higher (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the maximum detrusor pressure during micturition in both groups before and after surgery (P>0.05). One month after surgery, the average number of voiding frequency per day, average daily urine volume, PVR, QoL, MFR, bladder compliance (BC), and maximum cystometric capacity (MCC) were better in the combined group than in the BTX group (P<0.05), and the efficiency was higher in the combined group (88.9% vs.63.3%, P<0.05). Six months after surgery, the efficacy of the BTX group returned to the baseline level with no statistically significant difference, whereas the efficacy of the combined group was stable (not different from the postoperative 1-month indicators, but better than the baseline level). During the follow-up, there was no difference in the incidence of complications between the BTX group and combined group [43.3% (13/30) vs. 48.1% (13/27), P>0.05]. Conclusion BTX-A injection into the external urethral sphincter combined with SNM improves the short-term outcomes of INOUR patients and maintains the efficacy 6 months postoperatively, which is a safe and reliable treatment option.

A method for determination and targeted screening of diflorasone components in health products using ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF/MS)was established.Four representative diflorasone and esters(diflorasone,diflorasone diacetate,diflorasone-17-propionate,and diflorasone-21-propionate)were selected to optimize the pretreatment conditions,and 10 mL of extraction solvent dosage,15 min of extraction time and 5 g of salting-out agent as the optimal conditions were selected by response surface methodology.The results showed that the four analytes exhibited good linearity within the concentration range of 2.0?100 μg/L with the chromatographic peak area,and the correlation coefficients(R2)were all greater than 0.9990,while the results of recovery and relative standard deviation could satisfy the requirements of determination.The common characteristic ions of diflorasone and esters werem/z121 andm/z335,and their specific structures were obtained by analyzing the cleavage pathway based on the optimized determination conditions.A targeted screening method for other esters of diflorasone based on characteristic ions guidance strategy was established.This method had many advantages such as high efficiency,high sensitivity and good reproducibility,and could be used for targeted screening of diflorasone and esters in health products.The developed characteristic ion guided strategy could be employed to construct mass spectral databases for various glucocorticoids,enabling comprehensive targeted screening across a broad range of compounds.
9.Research progress in clinical and mechanism of Chinese materia medica in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease

According to TCM, the main pathogenesis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is stomach disharmony and descending, and stomach qi ascending. Phlegm dampness and blood stasis are also important pathological factors of this disease. TCM treatment for GERD mainly starts from the liver, spleen and stomach. The basic treatment is to harmonize the stomach and lower the adverse, and to soothe the liver and relieve depression, invigorate the spleen and resolve dampness, promote qi and blood circulation, and clear heat and inhibit acid. Clinical treatment of GERD is mostly in the form of TCM compounds, often combined with Western medicine, which can improve symptoms, reduce recurrence rate and reduce adverse reactions. The mechanism is to inhibit gastric acid secretion, enhance lower esophageal sphincter pressure, promote gastrointestinal motility, inhibit inflammation, regulate esophageal visceral sensitivity and regulate intestinal flora.
10.Epidemiological survey of knee osteoarthritis and analysis of related risk factors among military personnel in plateau regions

Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of knee osteoarthritis(KOA)among military personnel in plateau regions and to explore its risk factors.Methods From July 2023 to July 2024,a multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method was employed to survey the prevalence of KOA and related risk factors among military personnel in the northwest plateau regions of China,covering different altitudes(1500-4500 m)and geographical areas(Gansu,Qinghai,Tibet,and Xinjiang).All study subjects were divided into KOA and non-KOA groups based on the presence or absence of KOA.Variables including age,gender,body mass index(BMI),education level,smoking status,military rank,military branch,service duration,regional altitude,annual average temperature,training duration,perceived training intensity,and history of knee injury were selected for univariate analyses between groups.Variables with P<0.05 in the univariate analyses were included in the binary multifactor logistic regression to identify risk factors for KOA.Results A total of 3000 questionnaires were distributed,and 2854 valid questionnaires were collected,with a response rate of 95.13%.The sample included 2584 males and 270 females,with 510 cases of KOA,resulting in a prevalence rate of 17.9%.Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences between KOA and non-KOA groups in terms of age,BMI,smoking status,military rank,military branch,service duration,regional altitude,annual average temperature,training duration,perceived training intensity,and history of knee injury(P<0.05).However,no significant differences were found in gender and education level(P>0.05).Binary multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that older age(OR=1.382,P=0.017),higher BMI(P<0.01),smoking(OR=1.929,P<0.01),higher military rank(OR=1.485,P=0.007),being a member of the Armed Police(P<0.01),longer service duration(P<0.01),higher regional altitude(OR=1.459,P<0.01),lower annual average temperature(OR=1.188,P=0.001),longer training duration(P<0.01),higher perceived training intensity(OR=2.450,P<0.01),and history of knee injury(OR=2.768,P=0.002)were independent risk factors for KOA.Conclusions Older age,overweight/obesity,smoking,higher military rank,being a member of the Armed Police,longer service duration,higher altitude,cold climate,longer training duration,higher training intensity,and history of knee injury are independent risk factors for KOA among military personnel in the northwest plateau regions of China.
