Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2026;67(9):1012-1016
Based on the theoretical framework of the core concepts of the Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor (《黄帝内经》), this paper systematically elucidates the connotations of the mind and qi in traditional Chinese medicine and their interrelationship, and proposes the method of regulating qi and calming the mind. It emphasizes that the mind represents the outward manifestation of life phenomena and their underlying laws, while qi encompasses both a material foundation and functional dynamics. Mind and qi are jointly expressed in life activities through observable manifestations. In clinical practice, image-based thinking should be adopted, integrating theories such as yin-yang, the five elements, and essence-qi, to construct a diagnostic and therapeutic model of "manifestation-mechanism-syndrome-treatment". Treatment should be carried out from four aspects which include regulating body and constitution, recti-fying qi movement, calming the mind changes, and stabilizing emotional states. Moreover, it is necessary to take into account the coordinated regulation of both body and mind, as well as the maintenance of dynamic balance, to select appropriate formulas and medications.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;66(14):1508-1512
It is proposed that the essence of the half-interior half-exterior theory of the membrane-source lies in the concept of the interstitial space being half-interior half-exterior. Through analysis of classical medical texts and commentaries by renowned physicians, the relationship between the membrane-source interstitial layer and the Governor Vessel (督脉) is explored. It is argued that the Governor Vessel traverses beyond the membrane-source interstitial half-interior half-exterior layer, and that this layer is related to, but distinct from, the shaoyang channel's half-interior half-exterior characteristic. By examining both historical and modern clinical approaches, further evidence is provided to support the view that the Governor Vessel passes outside this interstitial layer. Based on this relationship, treatment principles and prescriptions for Governor Vessel-related disorders are referenced to formulate strategies for membrane-source disorders, offering new perspectives for addressing complex and difficult clinical conditions.

Yin-yang, visceral manifestation, and ti-yong theories are the core theories of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and play a crucial role in its formation and development. With the continuous evolution of Chinese philosophy, TCM philosophy and theories have undergone significant influence, resulting in differing interpretations of the visceral manifestation of liver and mingmen across various historical periods by different medical practitioners. This paper focuses on the different understandings of the position of liver and mingmen, combining relevant philosophical images and TCM anatomical illustrations to deeply explore ancient medical theorists′ concepts regarding the four spatial directions of left, right, up, and down. The research reveals that ancient medical theorists′ conceptualization of spatial theory transitioned from an initial circular motion to a vertical movement, with the focus shifting from the upper part to the lower part. The primary reasons for these differences and changes could be explained by the varying emphasis on the ti-yong theory and differing focal points within the yin-yang theory. This study systematically examines the evolution of visceral manifestation theories related to liver and mingmen, highlights the shifts in physicians′ perspectives on spatial theory, and analyzes the influence of the ti-yong theory and yin-yang theory on these changes. The findings aim to provide a theoretical guide for advancing research and clinical application of spatial theory in TCM, thereby fostering the integration of TCM philosophy with medical theory.

The qi-flavor compatibility theory originated from The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic. This theory is based on yunqi theory, with qi as the core, and recognizes diseases from the imbalance of qi transformation in the internal and external environment of the human body;it combines four-qi and five-flavor theories, and jointly regulates the qi transformation of nature and the human body from the aspects of cold and heat and prosperity and decline;it emphasizes"carefully observing the qi rules and not missing the patho-genesis",and according to the prosperity and decline of yunqi and the cold and warm of the climate, the deficiency and excess of the viscus qi and the cold and heat of the disease, the flavor of medicine and food is used to resist the invasion of abnormal climate on the human body, and adjust the qi transformation of the five internal viscera,so that the human body can be restored to a state of qi activity harmony and yin and yang balance. The imbalance of yin and yang is the root cause of disease, with cold and heat as its manifesta-tions,which are balanced by the four qi;prosperity and decline are the root causes, which are nourished and purged by the five flavors. The combination of four qi and the five flavors is essentially a multi-faceted adjustment of the imbalance of yin and yang in the human body. The mutual compatibility of multiple flavors can expand the scope of action of the drug, restrict the bias of the drug's fla-vor,and achieve both expelling evil and strengthening the body.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;66(2):205-208
It is proposed that both "skin interior-membrane exterior" (the region between the skin and membranes) and "membrane-source" are objective parts of human body. Based on relevant ancient texts, interpretations by physicians, and clinical characteristics of diseases, we analysed the relationship between skin interior-membrane exterior and membrane-source, and proposed that skin interior-membrane exterior is essentially equivalent to membrane-source, with skin interior-membrane exterior offering a clearer expression of the meaning. The medicinal practices and prescriptions recorded in materia medica and classical formulas provide evidence to support that skin interior-membrane exterior is same as membrane-source. Based on the researches on their relationship, the formula groups for the treatment of membrane-source diseases developed, potentially expanding the clinical applications of membrane-source formulas and offering new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases in clinic.

8.Discussion on the viewpoint integration in Huangdi Neijing
Journal of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2024;47(12):1655-1660
To clarify the reasons for the phenomenon of producing different viewpoints in the theory of Huangdi Neijing and how to understand and apply these different viewpoints correctly. This study explores the founding basis of the characteristics of "viewpoint integration" in the theory system of Huangdi Neijing and explains the theoretical significance and clinical value of "viewpoint integration" from the perspective of the core concept of Huangdi Neijing. In conclusion, when grasping the characteristics of "viewpoint integration" in Huangdi Neijing, thinking about, recognizing, analyzing, and solving problems is the main line and the core. Understanding different points of view should be extensive and in-depth. Do not use one viewpoint to understand all viewpoints, do not use one viewpoint to explain another viewpoint, and do not mechanically mix two viewpoints. At the same time, it is necessary to clarify the construction process of different viewpoints and to learn to grasp these viewpoints from different angles. Studying the characteristics of "viewpoint integration" in Huangdi Neijing can not only better understand the theoretical content of Huangdi Neijing, but can also help open up ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, develop and innovate the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, and improve clinical efficacy.

From the perspectives of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) information knowledge base and assisted decision-making knowledge base, the construction status, quality evaluation status and existing problems of current TCM knowledge bases have been sorted out. And based on the quality evaluation strategies and dimensions of know-ledge bases in other disciplines, the evaluation indexes for TCM knowledge base is discussed, and the evaluation framework is initially formed, providing ideas for the improvement of the TCM knowledge base evaluation system. In terms of the evaluation indexes, there are basic evaluation dimensions which include data sources, data collection, and data application. The specific evaluation dimension of the information-based knowledge base is data quality, while that of the assisted decision-making knowledge base is data matching. Except for the data application dimension which counts the valid data items in the database for calculation, other indexes are scored based on the qualitative evaluation of "yes", "no" or "unknown". The basic evaluation score and the specific evaluation score are added to obtain the total score. The knowledge base is graded according to the score, and the results are presented in the form of grade plus number.

Consumptive thirst is widely discussed in Huangdi Neijing and it is classified as a"strange disease"in Suwen·Strange Diseases Treatise, which reflects the intractable nature of consumptive thirst. This paper explores and analyzes consumptive thirst based on the core concept in Huangdi Neijing.First, this paper approaches the subject through the use of image thinking method from Huangdi Neijing, recognizing that consumptive thirst can lead to changes in the internal climate of the human body. Then, guided by the theories of essence and qi,yin and yang, and the five elements in Huangdi Neijing,it deconstructs and analyzes the causes of these changes and the laws of qi transformation. It points out that the changing climate of consumptive thirst is characterized by"heat symptoms".The main cause of"heat symptoms"is spleen deficiency and excessive dampness, and its qi transformation law is the heat transformation of Shaoyin. The intractable nature of consumptive thirst is mainly reflected in the uncontrolled"heat symptoms"caused by the imbalance of the five elements.Based on the understanding of the heat symptoms of consumptive thirst, this paper proposes a treatment strategy for preventing the disease by resolving dampness and regulating the spleen, harmonizing kidney qi to prevent progression, and balancing yin and yang to treat chronic and recalcitrant conditions. The aim is to provide a reference for optimizing the treatment of consumptive thirst.
