ObjectiveTo establish an objective evaluation system based on the quality characteristics of Gardeniae Fructus without relying on the origin label according to the theory of excellent shape, high quality, and superior effect of authentic medicinal materials, thus providing a scientific basis for the standardization of Gardeniae Fructus. MethodsDifferent batches of Gardeniae Fructus samples were collected from different producing areas. Through herbal textual research and a review of modern literature, fruit length, maximum fruit diameter, and chroma were selected as quantitative indicators to characterize the traditional appearance traits of Gardeniae Fructus. The above indicators were measured by a vernier caliper and a spectrophotometer. Through classical famous prescription data and literature analysis, total iridoid glycosides, total crocus glycosides, and total flavonoids were selected as the core component indicators related to efficacy, and their content was determined. Finally, through cluster analysis, the threshold ranges of the quantitative indicators of excellent shape and high quality were determined, and the applicability of the established evaluation system was verified by the determination of the indicators for each batch of medicinal materials. ResultsThe excellent shape indicators of Gardeniae Fructus were the fruit length-to-maximum fruit diameter ratio ≤1.86, 0°≤h≤45°, and L*≥ 37.32. The content of total iridoid glycosides, total crocus glycosides, and total flavonoids should be no less than 2.2%, 0.44%, and 0.028%, respectively. The measurement results of different batches of Gardeniae Fructus showed that the evaluation system could effectively distinguish the Gardeniae Fructus samples in line with the traditional cognition of excellent shape and high quality. ConclusionThis study preliminarily constructs an excellent shape and high quality-based quality evaluation system for Gardeniae Fructus, which links appearance traits with chemical indicators and provides a methodological basis for the quality control and scientific grading of this herbal medicine.

Objective To discuss the application value of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and lower extremity deep venous ultrasonography in patients of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) combined with coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods Nine hundred and seventy-four hospitalized patients of PTE in the first hospital of China medical university between December 2010 and March 2015 was enrolled,119 cases of these were combined with CHD (12.22%),including 94 cases of unstable angina and 25 cases of myocardial infarction. To review the general information, embolism area and ultrasonic report of the patients of PTE combined with CHD.The patients were divided into two groups according to whether they were combined with left ventricular systolic or diastolic dysfunction or valvular diseases. To compare TTE parameters between the two groups with two-sample t-test and calculate the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosing imaging massive pulmonary embolism (MPE) by TTE.Results (1) Seventeen cases thrombosis (3.43%) were observed in PTE patients who underwent TTE.The majority were pulmonary artery thrombosis (11 cases).Four cases of thrombosis (5.63%) were observed in PTE patients combined with CHD.The majority were right heart embolus (3 cases).(2) Lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (LEDVT)was observed in 52.60% of all the PTE patients and 34.62% of PTE patients combined with CHD.The majority were on the left and the deep venous thrombosis of the calf.(3) Fouty-six cases (64.79%) were PTEindirect signs in TTE.The sensitivity of echocardiography diagnosis of MPE was 84.38% and the specificity was 52.60%.(4) Pulmonary arterial systolic pressure [(47.90± 21.49) mmHg vs (31.18± 22.43) mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa),t=3.227,P <0.05] and inferior caval vein diameter [(19.66±4.41) mm vs (16.20± 3.46) mm,t=3.598,P < 0.05] in CHD combined with left ventricular systolic or diastolic dysfunction or valvular heart disease were higher than the control group. The differences were statistically significant. Conclusions The proportion of CHD in hospitalized PTE patients was high.TTE could find PTE signs and had high sensitivity for diagnosis ofMPE.TTE could prompt the possibility of PTE combined with left heart disease.

AIM: To study the effects of nabumetone on immunological fuctions in mice METHODS: After nabumetone was given ig to mice, the weight of thymus and spleen, phagocytizing function of macrophages, PHA- induced lymphocyte transformation were observed respectively in mice RESULTS: The weight of thymus and spleen was decreased, the phagocytizing function of macrophages was reduced, PHA- induced lymphocyte transformation was markedly inhibited with nabumetone in mice CONCLUSION: The immunological function in mice was significantly inhibited with nonsteriod anti- inflammatory drug- nabumetone

Objective To study acute toxicity of nanometer titanium dioxide to the liver and kidney of mice. Methods 20 KM mice (22-26 g) were randomly divided into two groups, the control group and the experimental group, TiO2 (20-30 nm) suspension (single dose of 5 g/kg body weight) was given to mice by a single oral gavage, the mice in the control group were given the physiologicalsaline. 14 days after the treatment, the mice were sacrificed and the serum were collected to evaluate the levels of ALT(alanine amino transferase), AST(aspartate aminotransferase), ALP(alkaline phosphatase), UA(uric acid), Cr(creatinine),BUN(blood urea nitrogen), CK(creatine kinase), LDH(lactate-dehydrogenase), ?-HBDH(alpha-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase), TBIL(total bilirubin levels). The tissues of the liver and kidney were excised and were embedded in paraffin blocks, hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining for further histopathological diagnosis. Results The serum ALT, ALT/AST, BUN, LDH and ?-HBDH of the TiO2 group were statistically higher than those in the control group (P
