Objective To investigate the association of digit ratio with single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)at three loci(rs17576,rs3918249,rs9509)of matrix metallopeptidase 9(MMP-9)gene.Methods A total of 804 Ningxia Han youths(399 males and 405 females)were used as the study subjects.A digital camera was used to take frontal photographs of the hands,and image analysis software was used to mark the anatomical points and measure the lengths of each finger of both hands(2D,3D,4D,5D);Multiplexed PCR was used to detect the three polymorphic sites of the MMP-9 gene,SPSS 25.0 and R Studio software were used for data analysis and plotting.Results The 2D/3D(P＜0.05)and 2D/4D(left,P＜0.01,right,P＜0.05)of both hands,2D/5D(P＜0.01),3D/5D,4D/5D(P＜0.05)of the right hand,and 3D/4D(P＜0.05)of the left hand in female youths of Ningxia Han were significantly higher than those in males,Differences in genotypes and allele frequencies at all 3 loci of the MMP-9 gene were not statistically significant between genders(P＞0.05).Right hand 2D/4D was significantly associated with genotypes at the rs17576 and rs3918249 loci in male youths(P＜0.05).Conclusion MMP-9 gene SNPs(rs17576 and rs3918249)may be associated with the formation of 2D/4D of Ningxia Han male youths.

Objective To investigate the association of 13 single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)sites in 6 phalange-bone development related genes[fibroblast growth factor receptor 2(FGFR2),indian hedgehog signaling molecule(IHH),Msh homeobox 1(MSX1),Runx family transcription factor 2(RUNX2),SRY-box transcription factor 9(SOX9),Wnt family member 5A(WNT5A)]with human index-ring finger length ratio(2D∶4D).Methods Digital cameras were used to take frontal photographs of the hands of 731 college students(358 males and 373 females)in Ningxia,and image analysis software was used to mark anatomical points and measure finger lengths of index(2th)and ring(4th);genotyping of 13 SNP sites(rs1047057,rs755793,rs41258305,rs3731881,rs3100776,rs12532,rs3821949,rs45585135,rs3749863,rs1042667,rs12601701,rs1829556,rs3732750)for 6 genes by multiplex PCR;One-Way ANOVA or independent sample t-test indirectly assessed the association between 2D∶4D and 13 SNP sites.Results Both left and right hand 2D∶4D were significantly higher in females than males in Ningxia college students(all P<0.01);no statistically significant differences in genotype and allele frequencies of the 13 SNP sites among different sexes(all P>0.05);among different sexes,male left hand 2D∶4D was significantly associated with the genotype of SOX9 gene rs12601701 site(P<0.05)and right hand 2D∶4D was significantly associated with the genotype of WNT5A gene rs1829556 site(P<0.05);the female right hand 2D∶4D was significantly associated with the MSX1 gene rs12532(P<0.01)and rs3821949(P<0.05)sites genotypes.Conclusion SOX9(rs12601701),WNT5A(rs1829556)and MSX1(rs12532 and rs3821949)gene polymorphisms may be associated with the formation of 2D∶4D in Ningxia population.

Objective To analyze the effectiveness and safety of bisphosphonates in the treatment of pa-tients with calcification defense.Methods PubMed,Embase databases,CNKI and Wanfang were searched to collect the case reports and clinical studies of bisphosphonates for calcification defense.Then,the relevant infor-mation of patients was extracted for statistical analysis.Results A total of 18 case reports were selected involving 20 patients.Thirteen patients(65.0％)were treated with pamidronate,four(20.0％)were treated with etidr-onate,two(10.0％)were treated with alendronate,and one(5.0％)was treated with zoledronic acid.Thirteen patients(65.0％)recovered completely,the recovery time of whom ranged from half month to nine months.The tolerance of bisphosphonates in most patients(90.0％)was good,while one patient who did not tolerate pamidr-onate recovered after the frequency of administration was adjusted and one patient with high dosage of etidronate returned to normal after the discontinuation of the usage.Conclusions Bisphosphonates,an inhibitor of bone resorption,is effective and safe in the treatment of patients with calcification defense.

Objective To investigate the association between the index finger and ring finger length ratio (2D ∶ 4D) and of four loci (rs6461992‚ rs6968828‚ rs7801581‚ rs17427875) polymorphism of homeobox (HOX) A11 gene among Ningxia college students. Methods Digit camera was used to collect frontal hand photos of 667 Han college students (348 males and 319 females) from Ningxia province; Image analysis software was used to mark the anatomical points and measure finger lengths of the index and ring fingers of both hands; multiplex PCR was used to detect each locus polymorphisms of HOXA11 gene; statistical software was used to compare and analyze the differences and associations of 2D ∶4D and gene polymorphisms between different genders. Results Among Ningxia Han college students‚ both left hand and right hand 2D ∶ 4D were significantly higher in females than those of in males (all P< 0. 05)‚ and there were no significant sex differences in right-left hand 2D ∶4D; the genotypes and allele frequencies of rs7801581 locus of HOXA11 gene differed significantly between genders (all P < 0. 05)‚ and none of the other locus polymorphisms showed any significant sex differences; only female left hand 2D ∶4D was significantly associated with rs6461992 locus genotype in the relationship between 2D ∶4D and HOXA11 polymorphisms (P<0. 05). Conclusion There were significant sex differences in 2D ∶ 4D among Han college students in Ningxia‚ and the rs6461992 locus polymorphism of HOXA11 gene may be associated with the formation of 2D ∶4D in females.

Objective: To investigate the potential risk factors for occult lateral cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) to levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and the necessity of super-selective lateral lymph node dissection for patients harboring these metastases. Methods: This prospective study included PTC patients who were operated by the same surgeon in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery of Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from October 2015 through October 2019. Preoperative ultrasound and enhanced Computer Tomography (CT) did not denote suspected enlarged lymph nodes in the lateral neck. All patients underwent lymph node dissection in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ on the basis of original thyroid collar incision after LNM to level Ⅵ was confirmed by preoperative fine needlebiopsy or intraoperative frozen pathology. Results: Of all 143 patients, 74 (51.7%) had occult LNM in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ confirmed by postoperative pathology. The average number of metastasized lymph nodes in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ was 2.64±1.80, and that in level Ⅵ was 3.77±3.27. There was a significant linear positive correlation between the number of metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ and that in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ (r=0.341, P<0.001). That the metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ equals three was the best predictor of occult lateral LNM to levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ. Univariate analysis showed that age <55 years, tumor size ≥2.0 cm, number of metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ ≥3, and percentage of metastasized lymph nodes in the total number of dissected lymph nodes in level Ⅵ >50% were associated with occult LNM in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that number of metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ≥3 was an independent risk factor for occult LNM in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ (P=0.006). Conclusions: Age, tumor size and LNM in level Ⅵ were associated with occult lateral LNM in PTC patients. Lymph node dissection in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ could be considered for selective patients, since it will help to avoid secondary operation for residual tumor or recurrence resulted from insufficient treatment without increasing the incidence of complications or affecting patients' appearances.

Objective To investigate the relationship between digit ratio and schizophrenia in men from Ningxia Han nationality. Methods Using anthropometry, digital camera was used to obtain finger photographs of both hands of 216 male subjects (nonnal control; 116, schizophrenia patient; 100). The anatomical points were marked and the length of each finger of both hands were measured by computer image analysis software (Image-Pro Plus 6 . 0 ) . Differences of the mean digit ratio of left and right hand 2D:3D, 2D:4D, 2D:5D, 3D:4D, 3D:5D, 4D:5D between the control group and the patient group were compared. The correlation between 2D :4D and onset age in the patient group were analyzed. Results Except for left and right hand 3D :4D, digit ratios in patient group were significantly higher than those in control group (2D :4D and 3D :5D in both hands, right hand 3D :5D, p all<0. 001; 2D :3D and 4D :5D, left hand 3D :5D, P<0. 0 1 ) . Compared with the control group (left hand; 1%, right hand; 1%) , the percentage of 2D:4D Ss 1 were significantly higher ( P<0. 05) in the patient group (left hand; 6% , right hand; 7%). There were no conelations between 2D :4D mean value and onset age in patients group (P>0. 05). Conclusion Digit ratio is related to the occurrence of schizophrenia in Ningxia Han male.

Objective: To observe the changes of parameters derived from transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) before and after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, and to evaluate the clinical value of TTE in the perioperative period of LVAD implantation. Methods: This is a retrospective study. The data of patients who underwent LVAD implantation in Fuwai Hospital from January 2018 to December 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The TTE parameters, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and total bilirubin (TBil) before and 1 month after LVAD implantation were collected and analyzed. Results: A total of 12 male patients undergoing LVAD implantation were included in this study. The mean age was (43.3±8.6) years. The left atrial volume index ((41.4±12.8)ml/m² vs. (74.9±30.7)ml/m², P<0.001), left ventricular end-diastolic volume index ((152.1±35.3)ml/m² vs. (205.5±35.7)ml/m², P<0.001), left ventricular end-systolic volume index ((112.5±27.9)ml/m² vs. (155.1±29.1)ml/m², P<0.001), right atrial diameter index ((23.7±3.5)mm/m² vs. (27.2±5.8)mm/m², P=0.023), right ventricular internal diameter at end-diastole ((24.6±2.7)mm vs. (30.0±4.8)mm, P<0.001), tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion ((11.5±2.9)mm vs. (14.6±2.8)mm, P=0.007), systolic pulmonary arterial pressure ((29.2±4.8) mmHg vs. (55.1±19.3) mmHg, P<0.001, 1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) were significantly reduced at 1 month post LVAD implantation as compared to before LVAD implantation. The aortic sinus diameter ((33.8±4.7)mm vs. (31.6±5.1)mm, P=0.007), left ventricular ejection fraction ((26.3±3.0)% vs. (23.8±4.4)%, P=0.016), right ventricular fractional area change ((31.0±8.6)% vs. (23.8±5.5)%, P=0.004) at 1 month post LVAD implantation were significantly higher than before LVAD implantation. The degree of mitral and tricuspid regurgitation decreased, and the inspiratory collapse rate of inferior vena cava increased (all P<0.05). NT-proBNP ((1 418.4±812.6)ng/L vs. (5 097.5±3 940.4)ng/L, P=0.004) and TBil ((12.4±5.4)μmol/L vs. (27.5±14.0)μmol/L, P=0.001) decreased significantly at 1 month post LVAD implantation. Conclusions: TTE results show that LVAD could effectively relieve left ventricular load and improve right ventricular function. TTE can monitor the cardiac structural and functional changes during the perioperative period of LVAD implantation, and provide the imaging evidence for clinical evaluation of the therapeutic effect of LVAD.

Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is an unusual vascular tumor associated with human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) infection, which is common in immunosuppressors. Although extremely rare, iatrogenic (drug-related) KS can occur in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative patients under immunosuppressive therapy. We report a 64-year-old male diagnosed with ulcerative colitis for 1 year. He was treated with methylprednisolone because of an acute severe disease flare. He presented with several popular violet lesions on the body 4 months after steroid therapy. Histological examination of skin biopsies showed Kaposi's sarcoma associated with HHV-8. The skin lesions regressed after steroid withdrawal and chemotherapy. Two key words "Kaposi's sarcoma" and "inflammatory bowel disease" were searched in Wanfang data and CNKI, but no relevant articles were found. Thirty-eight articles in English were retrieved on PubMed with the key words of ("ulcerative colitis" OR "Crohn's disease" OR "inflammatory bowel disease") AND (Kaposi sarcoma). Twenty-five cases of Kaposi's sarcoma related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) were reported. Including this case, the majority of 26 Kaposi's sarcoma related IBD patients were male (80.8%, 21/26). The average age was (51.1 ± 16.4) years. Twenty cases were ulcerative colitis and 6 were Crohn's disease. All the patients received immunomodulatory therapy, including glucocorticoid, azathioprine/mercaptopurine, methotrexate, cyclosporin and anti tumor necrosis factor α antibody. Thirteen cases were positive for HHV-8. There were 18 cases involving the distal ileum and colorectum only, 3 cases involving skin only, and 5 cases involving both skin and colorectum at the same time. Overall, the prognosis was good. Three patients only stopped immunosuppressive therapy, 1 received radiotherapy, 1 received chemotherapy, and 20 received surgery. Kaposi's sarcoma could be seen in IBD patients with immunomodulatory therapy. It is very important to distinguish from the skin lesions related to IBD or drug treatment. The adverse reactions of immunomodulatory therapy should not be ignored. In addition, attention should be paid to the cooperation of multi-disciplinary team, which can diagnose and treat rare cases earlier and more accurately.

The objective of this work was to develop a bioassay to quantify the antiplatelet aggregation activity of hirudo for quality evaluation and control. Antithrombin activity of hirudo extracted by high temperature decoction was determined by thrombin titration. Antiplatelet aggregation activity of hirudo was determined through pharmacodynamic experiments in vitro and in vivo using a bioassay we developed for quantifying inhibition of platelet aggregation. Methodological investigation was carried out and the titers of 12 batches of hirudo samples were determined. During the experiment, the disposal of animals is in accordance with the ethical standards of animal experiments. The results showed that the antithrombin activity of hirudo decocted at high temperature decreased significantly and almost lost its activity. Hirudo inhibited platelet aggregation and results in vivo and in vitro were consistent. These assays were employed to test 12 batches of hirudo. The results demonstrated that the biopotency of 12 batches was 113.49, 96.13, 121.22, 127.33, 83.48, 108.72, 131.41, 127.95, 76.90, 126.27, 132.89 and 573.53 U·mg^-1. The method was reliable and reproducible and can be used to assess the quality of hirudo.
