Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(3):321-324
Objective:
To understand the subjective and objective comfort evaluations of students from different age groups on desks and chairs, so as to provide reference for standardized allocation and use of desks and chairs.
Methods:
From January to April 2024, a total of 2 446 students were selected from 26 schools in 13 districts (counties/cities) in Shanghai, Tianjin, and Wuxi from Jiangsu Province by using cluster random method, including students in kindergartens, primary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, colleges and universities. Standardized procedures were used to measure the height and weight of participants, and the matching desks and chairs models were selected according to the height. The subjective comfort of students on matching desks and chairs was investigated, and their objective comfort was evaluated by using a self designed questionnaire. The χ 2 test was used to analyze the differences of subjective perception and objective evaluation in comfort between different types of desks and chairs.
Results:
About 84.1% of the students subjectively thought that large desks and small chairs were very comfortable or relatively comfortable, followed by large desks and chairs (75.7%), and the proportion of small desks and chairs was the lowest among the three types (46.2%), and the difference was statistically significant ( χ 2=722.46, P <0.01). The reporting rates of primary school, junior high school and senior high school students who subjectively considered large desks and chairs to be very comfortable/relatively comfortable were higher than that of other types of desks and chairs, and the differences were statistically significant ( χ 2=297.49, 252.82, 343.67, P <0.01). However, there was no significant difference in the subjective comfort evaluation of different types of desks and chairs among kindergarten children ( χ 2=3.21, P >0.05), and 66.3% of the students in colleges and universities felt very comfortable/relatively comfortable when they used the matching standard desks and chairs. The objective evaluation results of the comfort for the three types of desks and chairs were consistent with the subjective evaluation, but the proportions of the objective evaluation as very comfortable/relatively comfortable were higher than that of the subjective evaluation ( χ 2=20.76- 813.47, P <0.01).
Conclusions
Large desks and chairs, as well as large desks with small chairs are perceived comfortable, while small desks and chairs are perceived less comfortable. It is recommended to match the large desks and chairs or large desks and small chairs that are suitable for them according to the "standard", to promote physical and mental health of students.
2.Comfort assessment of school desks and chairs ergonomics among students with different body types
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(3):325-329
Objective:
To investigate the differences in the comfort of desks and chairs furniture among students with different body types according to the standard, so as to provide a reference for guiding students with overweight and obesity to choose the correct study furniture and revising the standards.
Methods:
From January to April 2024, 2 443 students from 26 schools in 13 districts (counties/cities) in Shanghai, Tianjin, and Jiangsu Province were selected by the cluster random sampling method to conduct physical examination. The subjective and objective evaluations of the comfort of height matched desks and chairs were investigated. The students were divided into non overweight, overweight, and obesity groups according to relevant criteria, and stratified analysis was performed. The χ 2 test was used to analyze differences in the comfort evaluations of desks and chairs among students with different body types.
Results:
Among the 2 443 students surveyed, 16.7% and 12.6% were respectively classified as overweight and obese. All students assigned the highest comfort ratings to large desks and small chairs (84.1%), and consistency was observed between students subjective and objective evaluations. The reporting rate of samll desks and chairs of obesity students subjective evaluation was lower (36.8%) than that of overweight and non overweight/obesity students (52.1%, 48.0%) ( χ 2=14.63, P <0.01). The overweight and obese group of primary school students had a worse evaluation of the comfort of large desks and chairs and small desks and chairs than those of the non overweight and obese groups( χ 2=15.78, 7.63, P <0.05). Among high school students, the overweight and obese group had worse evaluation of the comfort of large desks and chairs, as well as large desks and small chairs, than those of the non-overweight and obese groups( χ 2=9.62, 11.77, P <0.05). The objective evaluations revealed low compliance ratings on the posture of the thighs and calves for naturally forming an angle greater than 90° (55.6%), and headroom height under the table (50.3%) with small desks and chairs ( χ 2=94.05, 166.47, P <0.05).
Conclusions
Compared with non overweight/obese students, students with overweight and obese students report poor comfort evaluations of height matched desks and chairs. Revision of the standard should consider the body types of students, and evaluations of the comfort of desks and chairs furniture by students with overweight and obesity should be improved.

SoxR, one of bacterial transcriptional regulators, plays a crucial role in bacterial responses to oxidative stress induced by unfavorable environmental conditions. So far, the understanding of bacterial responses to oxidative stress mainly stems from a handful model bacteria such as Escherichia coli and the studies on non-model bacterial responses to oxidative stress are limited. In this study, Citrobacter braakii JPG1, a commonly occurring strain of enterobacteria, was used as a model for the first time to explore the role of SoxR in the responses to aerobic/anaerobic-menadione stress. First, we analyzed the phylogenetic relationship of SoxR based on the whole genome and constructed the soxR-deleted strain (ΔsoxR). Then, the cell counts of the wild type (WT) and ΔsoxR were compared under aerobic/anaerobic-menadione stress. The results showed that the cell count of WT exposed to the aerobic-low concentration menadione (0.1 mmol/L) stress for 24 h increased by 4.2 times compared with that at the time point of 0 h, while that of ΔsoxR only increased by 1.3 times. The vast majority of WT and ΔsoxR cells died after exposure to the aerobic-high concentration menadione (0.3 mmol/L) stress for 24 h, with the cell counts only 29% and 0.2% of those at the time point of 0 h, respectively. Interestingly, the cell counts of WT showed no significant difference between the anaerobic-menadione stress and the control (P > 0.05), and the same was true for ΔsoxR. All these results indicated that SoxR of C. braakii JPG1 only has a regulatory effect on the redox cycling compound menadione under aerobic conditions and enhance the antioxidant capacity. Under anaerobic conditions, menadione failed to activate SoxR. The findings from this study provide new insights into understanding both the physiological responses to menadione stress and the regulatory role of SoxR under different oxygen conditions.

Chinese Journal of Pathology 2024;53(11):1105-1110
Objective:To investigate the diagnostic features of pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP) in needle biopsy specimens so as to improve the preoperative diagnostic accuracy and to prevent misdiagnoses. Methods:A total of 79 needle biopsy cases confirmed as PSP in surgical resection specimens were collected in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China from January 2015 to January 2023. A retrospective analysis was conducted to investigate the clinical, pathological, and immunohistochemical characteristics of PSP.Results:Among the 79 cases, there were 8 males and 71 females, with an age range of 14 to 67 years (median 47 years). Among the 79 needle biopsy cases of PSP, 5 cases were initially misdiagnosed as adenocarcinoma and 1 as carcinoid preoperatively, while the remaining 73 cases were correctly diagnosed. 84.8% (67/79) of the PSP presented with well-defined, homogeneous, solitary solid tumors on chest imaging. Morphologically, 26.6% (21/79) of the PSP mainly showed a single histological component, 67.1% (53/79) contained two histological components, and 6.3% (5/79) contained three histological components. There were no cases containing all four histological components simultaneously. The tumor was composed of cuboidal cells on the surface and round cells in the stroma and lacked significant cytological atypia and mitotic figures. Some cases exhibited variations in histology and cellular morphology, such as glandular spaces (58.2%, 46/79), sclerotic papillae (46.8%, 37/79), hypercellularity (16.5%, 13/79), and cytological atypia (24.1%, 19/79). Immunophenotyping indicated that both tumor cell types expressed TTF1, EMA and β-catenin, while surface cells expressed pan-cytokeratin and Napsin A, and stromal cells expressed vimentin. In some cases, ER and PR were also expressed. Conclusions:When diagnosing PSP in needle biopsy specimens, the key to avoiding misdiagnosis is recognizing the presence of dual-cell populations within the tumor. The useful clues include presence of cellular papillae, mild cellular atypia, morphological diversity, interstitial foam-like cell aggregates, and prominent background hemorrhage and sclerosis. The characteristic immunophenotype and middle-aged female predilection are also helpful for the diagnosis of PSP.

Objective:
To understand the status of teaching environmental health in primary and secondary schools and explore its association with myopia, so as to provide a basis for precision myopia prevention and control.
Methods:
From September to October 2020, a stratified cluster sampling method was used in 16 districts of Shanghai. After matching the teaching environment testing classrooms with the classrooms where the students were surveyed, totally 470 classrooms and 14 624 students were monitored. Trained professional technicians used laser range finder, luxmeter to measure parameters about teaching environmental health. Students were subject vision testing and questionnaires. Multilevel models was used to analyze the association between teaching environment and screening myopia.
Results:
The qualified rates of each indicators of teaching environmental health were as follows: window to floor area ratio (93.0%), classroom area per capita (82.1%), uniformity ratio of illuminance of blackboard ( 79.7% ), blackboard size (68.7%), daylight factor (67.0%), blackboard hanging height (66.9%), average illuminance on desk (66.4%), uniformity ratio of illuminance of desk (63.6%), reflectance of blackboard (46.8%), average illuminance on blackboard (41.4%), reflectance of wall (33.2%), desk and chair allocation compliance rate (19.8%). The results of two level Logistic model analysis showed that unqualified average illuminance on blackboard was positively associated with screening myopia ( OR =1.24, 95% CI = 1.05 -1.47, P <0.05).
Conclusion
Teaching environmental health of primary and secondary schools in Shanghai is not optimistic, teaching environment especially the desk and chair allocation compliance rate need to be improved. The average illumination on blackboard is positively correlated with screening myopia, suggesting that myopia prevention and control can focus on improving the illuminance on blackboard.

Objective:To investigate the mechanism of dexmetomidine (DEX) in improving lung injury in septic mice. Methods:Male C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to the blank group (NC), sham operation group (sham), cecal ligation and puncture group (CLP), and Dex treatment group (CLP+DEX), 36 mice per group. Mice in the CLP group were intraperitoneally injected with 1 mL sterile saline 15 min before CLP, and mice in the CLP + DEX group were intraperitoneally injected with 50 μg/kg DEX 15 min before CLP. The survival rate was recorded within 24 h after CLP. The mice were sacrificed at 0, 3, 6, 12, and 24 h after CLP, and lung tissues were collected. The expression levels of cytokines (IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α) and lncRNA-HOTAIR in the lung of mice were detected by qPCR. RAW264.7 cell were cultured in vitro, LPS (100 ng/mL) and DEX (1 μ mol/L) were used to establish a cell model for studying the mechanism of Dex, and the expression of cytokines (IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α) and lncRNA-HOTAIR in RAW264.7 cell model were detected by qPCR. In addition, the effect of lncRNA-HOTAIR on sepsis was explored in vivo and in vitro by knockdown or overexpression of HOTAIR.Results:The survival rate of the CLP+DEX group was higher than that of the CLP group within 24 h after surgery, and the levels of IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α in the lungs were significantly lower than those in the CLP group at 6, 12, and 24 h after surgery ( P<0.05). In addition, the level of lncRNA HOTAIR showed that the expression level of lncRNA HOTAIR in the lungs of mice were decreased after Dex treatment, and were decreased 1.1 times ( P<0.05), 4.0 times ( P<0.01) and 3.8 times ( P<0.01) at 6, 12, and 24 h, respectively. Compared with the NC group, knockdown of HOTAIR significantly decreased the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in septic mice ( P<0.05), and overexpression of HOTAIR significantly increased the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in septic mice ( P<0.01). Conclusions:DEX can reduce the production of inflammatory factors in the lungs of septic mice and improve the survival rate of septic mice. The mechanism may be related to the inhibition of HOTAIR expression.

Objective:To investigate the survival benefit of radiotherapy on the basis of systemic treatment for stage ⅣB esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).Methods:Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, we collected the treatment information of 298 patients with newly diagnosed stage ⅣB ESCC admitted to Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2016 to February 2021. All patients were divided into two groups based on treatment: early radiotherapy intervention group (CRT group, n=197) and salvage radiotherapy intervention or no intervention group (CT group, n=101). Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance baseline characteristics between two groups. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the survival rate and log-rank was used to test the difference. Cox model was used to analyze the multivariate prognosis. Results:In the CRT and CT groups, the objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were 52.8% vs. 31.5%( P=0.006) and 98.9% vs. 85.4%( P=0.001) respectively, and the 1-, 2- and 3-year survival rates were 74.2% vs. 52.8%、31.5% vs. 10.1% and 15.7% vs. 2.2%, respectively. Median progression-free survival (PFS) was 8.5 months (95% CI: 6.7-10.3 months) vs. 4.4 months (95% CI: 3.5-5.3 months)( P<0.001). Median overall survival (OS) were 17.1 months (95% CI: 14.9-19.3 months) vs. 12.7 months (95% CI: 8.0-17.4 months)( P<0.001). The difference of adverse reactions was mainly in hematology. Conclusions:For newly diagnosed stage ⅣB patients with ESCC, radiotherapy should be combined with systemic therapy as early as possible. It yields longer PFS and OS, and effectively improves dysphagia. Adverse reactions are tolerated. Further validation is recommended in larger prospective studies.

Objective:To find the biomarkers that accurately predict the survival of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).Methods:The immune related genes that were significantly related to the overall survival (OS) of patients with ESCC were screened from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database to construct a prognostic risk score model. The prognoses of the high-risk and low-risk groups were compared by Kaplan-Meier method. The accuracy of the model was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Tumor tissue samples of 83 patients with pathological diagnosis of ESCC were collected from Anyang Cancer Hospital for external verification. Cox regression analysis was used to comprehensively evaluate the effects of prognostic risk score and various clinical characteristics on OS of patients with ESCC.Results:Seven immune-related genes that were significantly related to survival prognosis were selected from the TCGA database and included in the prognostic risk score model, which were S100A12, SLC40A1, FABP9, TNFSF10, IGHA2, IL1F10, and STC2. The 1- and 2-year survival rates of the low-risk group (40 cases) were 94.3% and 82.5%, respectively, while those of the high-risk group (40 cases) were 75.9% and 32.9%, respectively. The prognosis of the high-risk group was worse than that of the low-risk group ( P<0.001). The 83 external validation samples obtained consistent results by using the prognostic risk score model. The prognostic risk score was positively correlated with the content of CD4 + T lymphocytes in ESCC ( rs=0.259, P=0.020), but not correlated with the content of B lymphocytes, CD8 + T lymphocytes, neutrophils, macrophages or dendritic cells ( P>0.05). Conclusions:S100A12, SLC40A1, FABP9, TNFSF10, IGHA2, IL1F10, and STC2 were risk genes significantly associated with OS of patients with ESCC. The prognostic risk score was an independent prognostic factor for the OS of patients with ESCC, and it was correlated with the content of CD4 + T lymphocytes in ESCC tissue.

Objective:To verify the value of whole genomic copy number variation (WGCNV) detection and scoring system in the diagnosis and prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma.Methods:Seventy-six lung adenocarcinoma specimens including ninety-one tumor samples and twenty adjacent non-tumor lung tissue samples were collected using Laser capture microdissection (LCM). Whole genomic amplification (WGA) was used to enrich DNA and construct a sequencing library for next generation sequencing (NGS). Changes of larger than 5Mb CNV in this study were analyzed and scored. The nuclear grading and score of tumor cells in the surgery and pleural effusion cytology of lung adenocarcinoma specimens were evaluated separately. For each case, we evaluated (1) nuclear size, (2) mitotic counts, (3) nuclear atypia, (4) atypical mitoses. The data of disease-free survive (DFS) and overall survive (OS) were collected for assessing the prognostic value of WGCNV score. Meanwhile, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and area under curve (AUC) were used to define a cut-off value and evaluate the diagnostic significance in lung adenocarcinoma. Results:The WGCNV scores of twenty adjacent non-tumor lung tissue samples were treated as normal control and all of WGCNV scores of tumor samples range from 0 to 9.95, the median score was 2.7. The WGCNV scores were divided into three groups: low score group <1.74, medium score grade 1.74~4.23, high score grade >4.23. The WGCNV score was positively associated with the nuclear grade scoring ( r=0.780 90, P<0.001). The result for evaluation of prognostic value of the WGCNV scores showed that comparing with low WGCNV score group, Hazard Ratio (HR) of medium score group was 4.11 (95% CI=0.72~23.57) and high score group was 2.07 (95% CI=0.30~14.12). These results suggested that the risks of the medium and high WGCNV score group elevated. According to the analysis results of ROC curve, when the cut off value was 0.01, the sensitivity and specificity for lung adenocarcinoma diagnosis were 97.8% and 95.0% respectively, the positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were 99.0% and 90.1%, respectively, the AUC was 0.981. In the differentiation of adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) group and invasive adenocarcinoma group, when the cut off value was 1.8, the sensitivity and specificity between the two groups were 78.1% and 94.4%, and the PPV and NPV were 98.0% and 52.0%, respectively, the AUC was 0.896. Conclusion:This study verifies that WGCNV scoring system has a potential diagnostic and prognostic value in lung adenocarcinoma.
