Objective: To analyze characteristics of hepatitis B infection in HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ blood donors in Taiyuan, so as to provide evidence for adjusting blood screening strategies. Methods: Blood samples of HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ donors were tested using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), chemiluminescence assay, nucleic acid qualitative test, and nucleic acid quantitative test. Data on HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ donors in Taiyuan region from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2024 were statistically analyzed to evaluate the detection rate, demographic characteristics, influencing factors of detection rate, nucleic acid quantitative results, and serological patterns of HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ donors. Results: From January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2024, 991 565 donor samples underwent nucleic acid testing in Taiyuan. A total of 309 HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ samples were detected, resulting in an HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ detection rate of 3.12 per 10 000. The detection rate varied significantly across different years (P<0.05). Males had a significantly higher HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ detection rate than females, first-time donors had a higher rate than repeat donors, and whole blood donors had a higher rate than apheresis donors (P<0.05). The detection rate also differed significantly among age groups (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that gender, age, donation frequency, and donation type were all influencing factors for HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ detection (all P<0.05). The predominant serological patterns among HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ donors were HBsAb+/HBcAb+ (43.69%, 135/309) or HBcAb+ alone (24.27%, 75/309). Viral load was detectable in 53.40% (165/309) of the HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ donors. Among these, 61.21% (101/165) donors had a viral load<20 IU/mL, and 94.55% (156/165) had a viral load<200 IU/mL. Donors with viral load<200 IU/mL primarily exhibited HBsAb+/HBcAb+ (41.67%, 65/156) or HBcAb+alone (36.54%, 57/156) serological patterns. Conclusion: The prevalence of HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ is low among blood donors in Taiyuan. Higher detection rates were observed in the 46-55 years age group, males, first-time donors, and whole blood donors. HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ donors exhibit specific serological patterns and generally have low viral loads, indicating a potential residual transfusion risk. It is recommended to add HBcAb testing, together with high-sensitivity nucleic acid testing technologies and donor follow-up, to ensure blood safety and guide donor reentry.

Microbial denitrification is a major pathway for nitrogen removal from water bodies. However, denitrification is often difficult to continue when there is a lack of microbially available organic matter in the water body to serve as electron donors. In recent years, studies have shown that some denitrifying bacteria can directly utilize photoelectrons generated by sunlight-excited semiconductor minerals or natural organic matter for denitrification without the need for bioavailable organic matter as electron donors. This process is defined as microbial photoelectrotrophic denitrification. The discovery of microbial photoelectrotrophic denitrification phenomenon reshapes the previous knowledge about the chemoheterotrophic mode of denitrifying bacteria and broadens the pathway of nitrogen removal by the new photoelectrotrophic metabolism, which is of great significance to our understanding and exploration of sunlight-driven nitrogen cycling process. In this paper, we comprehensively sort out the existing research reports in the field of microbial photoelectrotrophic denitrification, systematically summarize the principle and the current research progress of microbial photoelectrotrophic denitrification, deeply analyze the problems and challenges faced by this technology, and make an outlook on the future research directions and application prospects of this technology, providing a reference for the further research and application of this technology.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the effects of acupuncture on the neurotransmitter levels and gut microbiota in a mouse model of Tourette syndrome (TS).
METHODS:
Thirty-six male C57/BL6 mice were randomly divided into 4 groups using a random number table method: 3,3'-iminodipropionitrile (IDPN) group, control group, acupuncture group, and tiapride group, with 9 mice in each group. In the IDPN group, acupuncture group, and tiapride group, mice received daily intraperitoneal injections of IDPN (300 mg/kg body weight) for 7 consecutive days to induce stereotyped behaviors. Subsequently, in the acupuncture intervention group, standardized acupuncture treatment was administered for 14 consecutive days to IDPN-induced TS model mice. The selected acupoints included Baihui (DU 20), Yintang (DU 29), Waiguan (SJ 5), and Zulinqi (GB 41). In the tiapride group, mice were administered tiapride (50 mg/kg body weight) via oral gavage daily for 14 consecutive days. The control group, IDPN group, and acupuncture group received the same volume of saline orally for 14 consecutive days. Stereotypic behaviors were quantified through behavioral assessments. Neurotransmitter levels, including dopamine (DA), glutamate (Glu), and aspartate (ASP) in striatal tissue were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Dopamine transporter (DAT) expression levels were additionally quantified through quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Gut microbial composition was analyzed through 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing, while metabolic profiling was conducted using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
RESULTS:
Acupuncture administration significantly attenuated stereotypic behaviors, concurrently reducing striatal levels of DA, Glu and ASP concentrations while upregulating DAT expression compared with untreated TS controls (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Comparative analysis identified significant differences in Muribaculaceae (P=0.001), Oscillospiraceae (P=0.049), Desulfovibrionaceae (P=0.001), and Marinifilaceae (P=0.014) following acupuncture intervention. Metabolomic profiling revealed alterations in 7 metabolites and 18 metabolic pathways when compared to the TS mice, which involved various amino acid metabolisms associated with DA, Glu, and ASP.
CONCLUSIONS
Acupuncture demonstrates significant modulatory effects on both central neurotransmitter systems and gut microbial ecology, thereby highlighting its dual therapeutic potential for TS management through gut-brain axis regulation.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2025;29(20):4276-4285
BACKGROUND:Various clinical strategies for the treatment of tendinopathy have good short-term effects but poor long-term effects, and some studies have proven that mitochondria are closely related to the occurrence and development of tendinopathy. However, the relationship between mitochondria and tendinopathy and mitochondria-targeting therapeutic strategies for tendinopathy have not been summarized so far, which is not good for specialists and scholars in related fields to understand the recent research situation.OBJECTIVE:To review the existing clinical or preclinical original studies,in order to summarize the relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and tendinopathy and the mitochondria-targeting methods for the treatment of tendinopathy, and to provide certain prospects for the evaluation and management of mitochondria in tendinopathy in the future.METHODS:The relevant literatures in PubMed,Web of Science,CNKI,WanFang and VIP databases were searched. The search time was from January 2009 to March 2024,and the search terms were"tendinopathy, tendon injuries, tendon, tendons, mitochondria, mitochondria dysfunction, mitochondria disease"both in English and Chinese.According to the exclusion and inclusion criteria,62 articles were finally included for review and analysis.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)In clinical tendinopathy patients or tendinopathy models, mitochondrial dysfunction is common, mainly represented by excessive production of reactive oxygen species, decreased activity of superoxide dismutase, ridge clutter and decreased number of mitochondria, which indicates that mitochondrial dysfunction will occur due to tendon injury, thus further worsening tendinopathy and forming a vicious cycle.(2)When the tendon has not been injured or tendinopathy has not yet occurred, the mitochondrial function will be affected by various internal and external factors, resulting in tendinopathy. This indicates that the normal tendon will be damaged, lesioned or even ruptured due to the abnormal function of the mitochondria.(3)Mechanical tensile stress, advanced glycosylation end products, aging and other internal and external factors are the main causes of mitochondrial dysfunction, and these factors will damage and weaken the biological activity and mechanical properties of normal tendons through molecular mechanisms such as apoptosis, inflammation and respiratory chain damage, and thereby induce tendinopathy.(4)According to molecular mechanisms,mitochondria-targeting therapies mainly include mitochondrial transfer/transplantation,transplantation,targeted antioxidants,etc.(5)This review mainly aims at clinical patients with tendinopathy or animal models with similar modeling methods, providing a reliable idea for clinical exploration of the pathogenesis of tendinopathy and targeted therapies for tendinopathy. However, the disadvantage is that the included studies are mainly animal experiments, and there is a lack of more clinical trials for verification.
