Journal of Korean Clinical Nursing Research 2023;29(2):163-174
Purpose:
To identify the effect of a new leadership type by confirming the effect of clinical nurses' grit and nursing work environment on nursing performance and retention intention with the mediating effect of compassionate rationalism leadership in the process.
Methods:
A proportional stratified sampling method was used with 45 tertiary general hospitals nationwide as the sampling unit. An online survey targeting nurses who have been working continuously for more than one year was conducted from October 14 to November 9, 2022. The final analysis included 1,256 questionnaires. The correlation between the participants' variables was analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficients. The mediating effect was confirmed using a regression analysis, and bootstrapping.
Results:
The compassionate rationalism leadership had a mediating effect on the relationship between grit and nursing performance (F=203.21, p<.001), nursing work environment and nursing performance (F=109.48, p<.001), grit and retention intention (F=149.90, p<.001), and nursing work environment and retention intention (F=25.14, p<.001).
Conclusion
The compassionate rationalism leadership of nursing managers had a positive effect on nursing performance and retention intention. Therefore, with the development and application of educational programs of compassionate rationalism leadership, it can be used to improve nursing performance and operate an efficient nursing organization.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess the psychological well-being and treatment satisfaction in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a general hospital in Korea. METHODS: This study included 440 type 2 diabetes patients above 20 years of age. Well-Being Questionnaire-12 (WBQ-12) and Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire were used to survey well-being and treatment satisfaction, respectively. WBQ-12 consists of 4 categories: negative well-being (NWB), energy (ENE), positive well-being (PWB), and general well-being (GWB). RESULTS: There were significant associations between NWB scores and women, low education, low-income, and number of hospital admissions. Significant associations were also identified between ENE scores and men, higher education, insulin nonusers, high-income, compliance with recommended exercise, number of medications, satisfaction with treatment time, and poor glycemic control. PWB scores were significantly associated with high-income, satisfaction with waiting and treatment times, compliance with recommended diet and exercise, and number of medications. GWB scores were significantly associated with men, higher education, high-income, satisfaction with waiting and treatment times, compliance with recommended exercise, and number of medications. Treatment satisfaction was significantly associated with age, satisfaction with waiting and treatment times, compliance with recommended diet and exercise, and duration of diabetes. CONCLUSION: Diabetes care requires psychosocial support in addition to medical care. Unlike Western studies, our study found that satisfaction with waiting and treatment times had a strong correlation with well-being and treatment satisfaction in diabetes patients.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is widely used to identify the causative mutations underlying diverse human diseases, including cancers, which can be useful for discovering the diagnostic and therapeutic targets. Currently, a number of single-nucleotide variant (SNV)-calling algorithms are available; however, there is no tool for visualizing the recurrent and phenotype-specific mutations for general researchers. In this study, in order to support defining the recurrent mutations or phenotype-specific mutations from NGS data of a group of cancers with diverse phenotypes, we aimed to develop a user-friendly tool, named mutation arranger for defining phenotype-related SNV (MAP). MAP is a user-friendly program with multiple functions that supports the determination of recurrent or phenotype-specific mutations and provides graphic illustration images to the users. Its operation environment, the Microsoft Windows environment, enables more researchers who cannot operate Linux to define clinically meaningful mutations with NGS data from cancer cohorts.

OBJECTIVE: Our purpose was to investigate women's perception and satisfaction before and after hysterectomy comparing urinary, lower gastrointestinal, and sexual function. METHODS: It was a prospective study of 89 women ages 31-65 years undergoing total abdominal hysterectomy for nonmalignant conditions. These women were interviewed before surgery and 1, 3 and 6 months later. Patients-reported symptoms of urinary, lower gastrointestinal, and sexual function and woman's satisfaction of hysterectomy were assessed. Only P< or =0.001 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: The most common reason of patients for hysterectomy was abnormal uterine bleeding. Secondary complication after hysterectomy was negligible. Hysterectomy has got lead to the improvements in pelvic/abdominal pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, and urinary symptoms. The frequency of orgasm was reduced, but other sexual variables were not changed significantly. The level of satisfaction after hysterectomy was very high. CONCLUSION: Abdominal hysterectomy for benign conditions improves urinary and lower gastrointestinal function with no consistent changes in sexual function. Hysterectomy gives patients high degree of satisfaction as well as marked improvement of quality of life.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the US and CT findings of abdominal wall endometrioma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We respectively reviewed nine patients with abdominal wall masses diagnosed as endometrioma during a recent three-year period. Both US and CT scans were performed in six cases, only ultrasound in one, and only CT scans in two. The location, size, shape, margin, internal echo or density, enhancement patterns, and relation to adjacent masses, as seen on US and CT images, were reviewed. RESULTS: All patients had a previous history of deliveries by caesarian section. All masses were 2-4.5cm in size ; five were located in subcutaneous layers and four in musclel ayers. In all cases, sonographic findings were low echoic masses with irregular margins(7/7). Internal echotextures were inhomogeneous in five cases and homogeneous in two. On CT, masses in subcutaneous layers(5/8)showed spiculated margins and linear enhancement of the rectus muscle fascia. In cases of lesion located in muscle(3/8), slight thickening of the rectus muscle was visible on precontrast CT scans, but on postcontrast CT scans, well-defined enhancing masses, separate from the rectus muscle were seen. CONCLUSION: When patients with a previous history of caesarian section present palpable abdominal wall masses, with cyclic pain, sonographic findings of a low echoic mass separated from the internal organs, and CT findings of a strongly enhanced mass are useful for the diagnosis of endometrioma.
