Purpose:
Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) play a significant role in modern diets but are associated with various health risks, including obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.This study examined the consumption patterns of UPFs among middle-aged adults, older adults, and the oldest older adults in South Korea to identify the key food sources contributing to UPF intake using the Korean NOVA classification system.
Methods:
Data from the 2016–2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were analyzed for 13,396 participants aged 40 years and older. Individuals with extreme energy intakes, serious diseases, or incomplete dietary records were excluded. The UPF intake levels were categorized into quartiles (Q1–Q4) based on the proportion of energy derived from UPFs, excluding individuals who did not consume UPFs.
Results:
In all age groups, the group with a high proportion of UPF consumption tended to have higher energy and macronutrient intake but lower micronutrient intake. The UPFs contributing significantly to energy intake were primarily alcohol and grain-based products.On the other hand, the energy contribution from UPFs based on legumes, milk, and dairy products tended to increase as the level of UPF consumption increased, and this trend was more significant with increasing age.
Conclusion
This study identified the differences in UPF consumption patterns across age groups and highlighted the importance of selective consumption based on the types of UPFs.

Based on histological analysis, we diagnosed iron overload myopathy by secondary hemochromatosis. Secondary hemochromatosis with severe muscle atrophy and myositis is very rare, and this is the first report of iron-overload myopathy in a dog.

8.Disease Progression and Treatment of Mammary Gland Osteosarcoma in a Dog: A Case Report

A 12-year-old intact female Miniature Pinscher dog was presented to our hospital with a large mass in the right mammary gland. On computed tomography, several masses throughout the mammary glands and enlarged bilateral inguinal lymph nodes were confirmed. Right hemimastectomy was performed first, and mammary gland osteosarcoma with lymph node metastasis was diagnosed by histopathological examination. After consultation with the owner, left hemimastectomy was not performed, but chemotherapy with carboplatin was initiated. The dog was treated with carboplatin, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and mega-dose vitamin C therapy for approximately eight months. However, during the course of treatment, pulmonary metastasis, neurological signs, and periosteal reaction in the appendicular skeletons developed, and the patient died after several seizure episodes. This present case report describes the overall disease progression and treatment of mammary gland osteosarcoma in a dog.
9.Linking the Supplementary Motor Network and Executive Function in Developing Brain

Objective:
Essential development of the frontal lobe occurs during childhood and adolescence, affecting various executive function (EF) domains. Of the frontal areas, the supplementary motor area (SMA) located in the medial frontal cortex, is involved in various high-order EFs which include inhibition, working memory, and cognitive flexibility.However, it remains unclear how the functional network of the SMA is associated with EF development.
Methods:
We assessed Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) score and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging data from 6- to 17-year-old children and adolescents to identify age differences in SMA functional connectivity (FC) associated with EF.
Results:
A total of 112 children and adolescents (62 males; mean [standard deviation] age, 12.21 [2.98] years) were included. After adjusting for sex, we discovered significant evidence in the older group that 300 FCs between the SMA and numerous regions of the brain, including the frontal, occipital, parietal, temporal, limbic, and cerebellar areas, were negatively correlated with the WCST subcategories (false discovery rate < 0.05).
Conclusion
This finding underscores the SMA’s pivotal role in executive dysfunction during developmental stages.Interestingly, this significant connectivity was absent in younger participants, highlighting the age range of 11−12 as a critical turning point for brain functional alterations involved in EF development. Since the crucial role of SMA in refining EF development has been underappreciated, this work has the potential to provide insight into both the nature of the functional alteration of SMA and the differences in individuals’ EF development trajectories.
10.Growth and Developmental Outcomes of Triplets Preterm Infants according to the Chorionicity: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Objective:
We elucidated the effect of monochorionicity on neonatal and long-term neurologic outcomes on an individual basis in triplets.
Methods:
We retrospectively reviewed the perinatal outcomes and development and growth at 18 to 24 months corrected age (CA) of triplets born alive between 24 and 32 weeks of gestational age (GA) between 2009 and 2021 from the Seoul National University Hospital database. Neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) was defined as any delay among the Bayley-III domains (motor and language), cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, or visual loss and was performed at a CA of 18 to 24 months.
Results:
We included 40 sets of triplets (120 infants), comprising 26, 10, and 4 sets of trichorionic (TC), dichorionic (DC), and monochorionic (MC) triplets, respectively. Ten infants, unaffected by monochorionicity out of 30 DC infants, were included in the non-MC group. Eighty-eight infants were included in the non-MC group, and 32 infants were affected by monochorionicity. In vitro fertilization-embryo transfer was more frequent in the non-MC group (P<0.05), and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome affected only the MC group (P<0.01). At 24 months of CA, a combined delay of language and cognition in Bayley-III was evident in the MC group (P<0.05). Although NDI did not significantly differ between the 2 groups (P=0.059), the composite outcome of NDI+ postnatal death was significantly different (P<0.05). NDI+ postnatal death correlated with GA, Z-score of birth weight, brain injury, and monochorionicity in the univariate analysis (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed a significant correlation between monochorionicity and NDI+ postnatal death. (P<0.05).
Conclusion
Monochorionicity is associated with adverse long-term neurodevelopmental out comes.
