1.A Comparative Study on the Effects of Repeated Subacromial Injections of Parecoxib and Triamcinolone in a Rat Model of Normal Rotator Cuff

Background:
This study aimed to investigate changes after repeated subacromial drug injections in a rat model of normal rotator cuff.
Methods:
Thirty-nine male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into groups 1 (no injection, n = 3), 2 (parecoxib, n = 18; 6 subgroups, n = 3 each; 0.5 mg/kg), and 3 (triamcinolone, n = 18; 6 subgroups, n = 3 each; 0.3 mg/kg). Groups 2 and 3 received subacromial injections 1–6 times once weekly for 6 weeks. The supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons and muscles were used for biomechanical and histological evaluation. The subacromial bursa was used to analyze the prostaglandin E2 (PEG2) level.
Results:
In the biomechanical test, load-to-failure and ultimate stress decreased in groups 2 and 3 with repeated injections and the values were significantly lower in group 3 than in group 1 only at the sixth injection (p = 0.007 and p = 0.008, respectively). On the Bonar score, the cellularity, ground substance, and total score were significantly different among the 3 groups at the fifth and sixth injections (cellularity: p = 0.028 and p = 0.033, ground substance: p = 0.018 and p = 0.006, and total score: p = 0.029 and p = 0.027, respectively). The myocyte cross-sectional area of the infraspinatus muscle showed a significant difference among the 3 groups at the third and fourth injections (p = 0.031 and p = 0.020, respectively). The PEG2 level in the subacromial bursa was significantly different among the 3 groups at the third, fifth, and sixth injections (p = 0.019, p = 0.004, and p = 0.004, respectively).
Conclusions
In the rat model of normal rotator cuff, repeated local injections of the cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor showed fewer negative effects on the biomechanical and histological properties of the normal tendon than triamcinolone.

5.A Study on Research Trend in Sports Medicine Using Big Data Analysis:Based on Korean Peer-Reviewed Journals Published from 2014 to 2024

Purpose:
This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the thematic trends and paradigm shifts in sports medicine research by applying keyword network analysis and text mining techniques to papers published in Korean academic journals over the past decade (2014−2024). Through this, the study sought to identify the overall research flow in the field and provide foundational insights for setting future research directions in Korean sports medicine.
Methods:
Research articles related to sports medicine published between 2014 and 2024 were collected from the RISS (Research Information Sharing Service) using the keywords “sports medicine,” “athletic training,” and “sports rehabilitation.” Data were processed and analyzed with the big data analysis program TextoM (The IMC Inc.). Text mining and term frequency−inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) analyses were performed, followed by semantic network and CONCOR (CONvergent of iterated CORrelation) analyses using Ucinet 6.0 (Analytic Technologies) and NetDraw to examine relational structures among keywords.
Results:
The most frequent keywords included “training” (2,133), “effect” (1,536), “research” (1,428), “athlete” (1,311), and “measurement” (889). In TF-IDF analysis, the highest values were observed for “disorder,” “group,” “athlete,” “training,” and “muscle strength.” Six major research clusters were identified: (1) sports medicine/rehabilitation, (2) golf and taekwondo, (3) soccer, (4) program development, (5) psychology, and (6) weight training.
Conclusion
The findings indicate a paradigm shift in Korean sports medicine research from treatment- and rehabilitation-centered studies toward prevention, performance enhancement, and multidisciplinary topics. These results provide a theoretical foundation for future integrative and specialized research designs in sports medicine.

Cutibacterium acnes, a commensal, lipophilic, anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium, is well known for its potential to cause infections, particularly in the field of orthopedics, notably in the shoulder. However, its indolent strain nature presents challenges in the diagnosis of the bacterium using clinical, laboratory, and culture-based methods. There are controversies surrounding its actual threat as an infection-causing agent, leading to an incomplete consensus on treatment strategies after the infection. Furthermore, research is ongoing to explore preventive procedures before the onset of infection. This review aimed to comprehensively explore the diagnosis and treatment of C. acnes and determine whether it is a risk factor for shoulder joint infections.

10.Digital Health Technology Use Among Older Adults: Exploring the Impact of Frailty on Utilization, Purpose, and Satisfaction in Korea

Background:
The importance of digital technology is increasing among older adults. In this study, the digital health technology utilization status, purpose, and satisfaction of older adults were investigated according to frailty.
Methods:
A face-to-face survey was conducted among adults aged 65 years or older. Frailty was defined using the Korean version of the fatigue, resistance, ambulation, illnesses, and loss of weight scale.
Results:
A total of 505 participants completed the survey, with 153 (30.3%) identified as pre-frail or frail and 352 (69.7%) as healthy. All respondents used smartphones; 440 (87.1%) were application users, and 290 (57.4%) were healthcare application users. Wearable devices were used by only 36 patients (7.1%). Pre-frail or frail respondents used social media more frequently than healthy respondents (19.4% vs. 7.4%, P < 0.001). Among the respondents, 319 (63.2%) were not able to install or delete the application themselves, and 277 (54.9%) stated that the application was recommended by their children (or partner). Pre-frail and frail respondents used more healthcare applications to obtain health information (P = 0.002) and were less satisfied with wearable devices (P = 0.02).
Conclusion
The usage rate of digital devices, including mobile phones among older adults in Korea is high, whereas that of wearable devices is low. There was a notable difference in the services used by pre-frail and frail respondents compared to healthy respondents. Therefore, when developing digital devices for pre-frail and frail older adults, it is crucial to incorporate customized services that meet their unique needs, particularly those services that they frequently use.
