Objective: : Although Republic of Korea is an advanced country in medical technology with a successful treatment rate for serious diseases, such as cancer, and has improved technology for highly difficult surgery, many excellent medical doctors and physicians are struggling due to the recent unreasonable medical environment. Specialization in brain tumor surgery also faces challenges in Republic of Korea, including low financial incentives, legal threats, and limited career prospects. In response, the Korean Brain Tumor Society (KBTS) formed the Future Strategy Committee to assess these obstacles and propose solutions. Methods: : A survey was conducted among the KBTS members to understand their perceptions and concerns across different career stages. Results: : The findings revealed a decline in interest among chief residents in brain tumor surgery, owing to limited job opportunities and income prospects. Neurosurgical fellows expressed neutral satisfaction but highlighted challenges, such as low patient numbers and income. Faculty members with varying levels of experience echoed similar concerns, emphasizing the need for improved financial incentives and job stability. Despite these challenges, the respondents expressed dedication to the field and suggested strategies for improvement. Conclusion : The KBTS outlines a vision that focuses on practical excellence, comprehensive research, professional education, responsibilities, and member satisfaction. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts among healthcare institutions, professional societies, and policymakers to support brain tumor specialists and enhance patient care.

Recent research has revealed the essential role of the thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) in regulating inflammatory responses at mucosal barriers and maintaining immune homeostasis. Asthma, inflammation, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are allergic disorders in which TSLP plays a significant role. Although TSLP’s role in type 2 immune responses has undergone comprehensive investigation, its involvement in inflammatory diseases and cancer has also been found to be expanding. However, investigating how to block the TSLP pathway using natural products has been limited. This paper summarizes the roles of various medicinal plants and their chemical components that effectively inhibit the TSLP pathway. In addition, we also highlight the contributions of several plant-derived compounds to treat allergic diseases via targeting TSLP. This review intends to offer innovative concepts to scientists investigating the use of naturally produced compounds and extracts for the treatment of allergic illnesses.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the influence of teamwork and grit on job adaptation and intention to remain among advanced beginner nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive research design employing a survey method was used. The study involved 203 advanced beginner nurses with 13~36 months of experience working at a tertiary hospital. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis. Results: Job adaptation positively correlated with teamwork (r=.58, p<.001) and grit (r=.65, p<.001). Intention to remain was also positively correlated with teamwork (r=.32, p<.001) and grit (r=.59, p<.001). A hierarchical multiple regression model including control variables, teamwork, and grit accounted for 64% of the factors influencing job adaptation. Another hierarchical multiple regression model, incorporating control variables, teamwork, and grit, explained 44% of the factors influencing the intention to remain. Among the related factors, grit emerged as the most influential in regarding job adaption and intention to remain. Conclusion These findings underscore the importance of establishing a support system to bolster grit, enhancing adaptation to the job and fostering intention to remain among advanced beginner nurses.

5´-Adenosine monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a cellular energy sensor, is an essential enzyme that helps cells maintain stable energy levels during metabolic stress. The hypothalamus is pivotal in regulating energy balance within the body. Certain neurons in the hypothalamus are sensitive to fluctuations in food availability and energy stores, triggering adaptive responses to preserve systemic energy equilibrium. AMPK, expressed in these hypothalamic neurons, is instrumental in these regulatory processes. Hypothalamic AMPK activity is modulated by key metabolic hormones. Anorexigenic hormones, including leptin, insulin, and glucagon-like peptide 1, suppress hypothalamic AMPK activity, whereas the hunger hormone ghrelin activates it. These hormonal influences on hypothalamic AMPK activity are central to their roles in controlling food consumption and energy expenditure. Additionally, hypothalamic AMPK activity responds to variations in glucose concentrations. It becomes active during hypoglycemia but is deactivated when glucose is introduced directly into the hypothalamus. These shifts in AMPK activity within hypothalamic neurons are critical for maintaining glucose balance. Considering the vital function of hypothalamic AMPK in the regulation of overall energy and glucose balance, developing chemical agents that target the hypothalamus to modulate AMPK activity presents a promising therapeutic approach for metabolic conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
