As many countries implement different programs aimed at eliminating malaria, attention should be given to asymptomatic carriers that may interrupt the progress. This was a community-based cross-sectional study conducted in Tanzania from December 2022 to July 2023 within 4 villages from each of the 3 regions, Geita and Kigoma, which are high malaria transmission, and Arusha, which is low transmission. Malaria was diagnosed in asymptomatic individuals aged 1 year and older using the malaria rapid diagnostic test and light microscope. A total of 2,365 of 3,489 (67.9%) participants were enrolled from high-transmission villages. The overall prevalence was 25.5% and 15.8% by malaria rapid diagnostic test and light microscope, respectively. Using the respective tools, the prevalence was significantly higher at 35.6% (confidence interval (CI)=23.6–49.9) and 23.1% (CI=16.2–35.1) in the high-transmission regions (Geita and Kigoma) compared with 2.9% (CI=1.1–3.5) and 1.1% (CI=0.7–1.8) in the low-transmission region (Arusha). Children younger than 15 years and males accounted for the greatest proportion of infections. In the study area, the prevalence of asymptomatic cases was higher than that of reported symptomatic cases in health facilities. We hypothesize that these parasite reservoirs may contribute to the persistence of malaria in the country. Therefore, to achieve comprehensive malaria control in the country, the surveillance and screening of asymptomatic malaria cases are vital.

6.A Clinicopathologic Feature and Survival Analysis of Cutaneous Angiosarcoma: A Single Tertiary Center Study

Background:
Cutaneous angiosarcoma, a rare malignant tumor, is associated with high mortality and poor prognosis.
Objective:
This study aimed to analyze the clinicopathologic features of cutaneous angiosarcoma and identify the prognostic factors influencing survival.
Methods:
Medical records of patients diagnosed with cutaneous angiosarcoma between January 1995 and March 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Demographic data, clinicopathologic features, and treatment modalities were analyzed to evaluate the correlation with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). A total of 70 patients were included in the study.
Results:
Their mean age at diagnosis was 71 years (range, 41–91 years). Of them, 57 (81.4%) were males. Five-year OS and PFS rates were 29.0% and 10.7%, respectively. In univariate analysis, a mass in the frontal area of the scalp showed significant associations with poorer PFS (hazard ratio [HR], 1.95; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.07–3.55; p=0.029) and poorer OS (HR, 2.42; 95% CI, 1.22–4.80; p=0.011). Mass size exceeding 3 cm had a notable impact on PFS (HR, 3.41; 95% CI, 1.32–8.82; p=0.011) and remained a significant independent adverse prognosticator in multivariate analysis (HR, 4.55; 95% CI, 1.22–16.99; p=0.024).
Conclusion
Cutaneous angiosarcoma is characterized by an unfavorable prognosis, with a larger mass size identified as an independent prognostic factor.
7.Evaluation of Exosome-derived Small RNAs as Potential Biomarkers for Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Using Next-generation Sequencing

Background:
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a poor prognosis and lacks clinical biomarkers. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that facilitate cell–cell communication by distributing macromolecules, such as small RNAs (smRNAs). We assessed the potential of exosome-derived small RNAs (Ex-smRNAs) as PDAC biomarkers.
Methods:
Peripheral blood was collected from 51 patients with PDAC and 15 control individuals. Exosomes were isolated using an aqueous two-phase system. Ex-smRNAs were analyzed using smRNA sequencing. smRNA-mediated target gene regulation was verified via The Cancer Genome Atlas analysis and in vitro transfection and wound-healing assays using PDAC organoids.
Results:
The total Ex-smRNA count was substantially reduced in patients with PDAC compared with that in control individuals. The levels of microRNAs (miRNAs) miR-125a-5p, miR-30e-5p, miR-16-2-3p, miR-98-5p, and the let-7 family were significantly suppressed, whereas that of miR-6731-5p was significantly elevated. Let-7c-5p and miR-98-5p were found to interact with the long non-coding RNA OLMALINC to regulate their common target genes, BACH1 and CCND1, thus controlling PDAC proliferation and migration. The expressions of CARS1-AS1 and miR-142-5p were upregulated in treatment-responsive patients.Multivariable Cox regression analyses, adjusting for potential prognostic factors such as sex, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, and tumor size and stage, revealed that CARS1-AS1 (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 0.33; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.15–0.73; P = 0.0061) and miR-142-5p (adjusted HR 0.79; 95% CI, 0.61–1.01; P = 0.0581) were associated with improved overall survival.
Conclusions
We identified potential Ex-smRNA biomarkers involved in PDAC progression and prognosis that reflect key molecular alterations in PDAC and may serve as clinically relevant biomarkers for disease monitoring.

However, compliance with exercise programs is often poor due to childcare demands. This study aims to assess changes in ultrasound parameters (inter-recti distance [IRD], shear wave elastography [SWE]) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) related to DRA following an online exercise program.
Methods:
Sixty-seven women aged 25–35 years, who had undergone single vaginal delivery, participated in an8-week exercise program delivered via a mobile app. Pre- and post-intervention ultrasound parameters and clinical scores for low back pain (LBP) and urinary incontinence were compared.
Results:
After the 8-week program, IRD decreased and SWE increased significantly. PROs, including scores for LBP and urinary incontinence, showed significant improvement. Subgroup analysis based on initial IRD diagnostic criteria for DRA revealed significant improvements in ultrasound parameters and PROs in both groups, with greater improvements observed in those initially diagnosed with clinical DRA.
Conclusion
