1.Standardization of canine platelet-rich plasma preparation and its functional characterization

Objective:
To identify centrifugation parameters that maximize platelet recovery while preserving function in canine PRP.
Methods:
Whole blood from 10 healthy dogs was processed by single-spin (10 min at 800, 1,200, 1,500, or 2,000 rpm) or dual-spin (two-time immediate sequential repetition of the same centrifugation speed for 5 min) using a fixed-angle rotor (radius = 15 cm; 1,500 rpm = 364 × g equivalent). Platelet recovery and white blood cell (WBC) contamination were quantified, and platelet aggregation and dense-granule secretion (2-MeSADP, thrombin), thromboxane (Tx) A2 generation (TxB 2 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay [ELISA]), protein kinase B (AKT)/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) phosphorylation (immunoblot), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB release (ELISA) were measured.
Results:
Among single-spin conditions, PRP obtained at 1,500 rpm/10 min yielded the highest platelet recovery (≈25.1%) with < 1% WBC carryover. This PRP exhibited maximum 2-MeSADP- and thrombin-induced platelet aggregation and secretion, TxA2 generation, AKT/ ERK phosphorylation, and PDGF-BB release, suggesting that optimizing the centrifugal speed is crucial for achieving the optimal PRP collection with the utmost platelet function.Compared with the optimal single-spin condition, dual-spin at 1,500 rpm/5+5 min further increased platelet recovery (≈48.7%) and enhanced functional readouts.
Conclusions
and Relevance: A dual-spin at 1,500 rpm/5+5 min protocol produces leukocytepoor PRP with superior platelet recovery and function in dogs, supporting more effective and reproducible clinical and research applications.
2.Utilization of the Unlinked Case Proportion to Control COVID-19: A Focus on the Non-pharmaceutical Interventional Policies of the Korea and Japan

Objectives:
Korea and Japan have managed the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) using markedly different policies, referred to as the “3T” and “3C” strategies, respectively. This study examined these differences to assess the roles of active testing and contact tracing as non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). We compared the proportion of unlinked cases (UCs) and test positivity rate (TPR) as indicators of tracing and testing capacities.
Methods:
We outlined the evolution of NPI policies and investigated temporal trends in their correlations with UCs, confirmed cases, and TPR prior to the Omicron peak. Spearman correlation coefficients were reported between the proportion of UCs, confirmed cases, and TPR. The Fisher r-to-z transformation was employed to examine the significance of differences between correlation coefficients.
Results:
The proportion of UCs was significantly correlated with confirmed cases (r=0.995, p<0.001) and TPR (r=0.659, p<0.001) in Korea and with confirmed cases (r=0.437, p<0.001) and TPR (r=0.429, p<0.001) in Japan. The Fisher r-to-z test revealed significant differences in correlation coefficients between the proportion of UCs and confirmed cases (z=16.07, p<0.001) and between the proportion of UCs and TPR (z=2.12, p=0.034) in Korea and Japan.
Conclusions
Higher UCs were associated with increases in confirmed cases and TPR, indicating the importance of combining testing and contact tracing in controlling COVID-19. The implementation of stricter policies led to stronger correlations between these indicators. The proportion of UCs and TPR effectively indicated the effectiveness of NPIs. If the proportion of UCs shows an upward trend, more testing and contact tracing may be required.
3.Hydramnios related to fetal deformity in a Hanwoo cow: a case report

A Hanwoo cow with a delayed gestation and abdominal distension was delivered following PGF2α injection. There was excessive amniotic fluid, and a male calf was delivered but died immediately. The calf had no eyes and nose, and a cleft palate on the upper jaw. Gross appearance and computed tomography image showed that upper teeth were spread out on both sides due to cleft palate in the upper jaw, and lower jaw and teeth were positioned upward. There were no other brain parts except cerebellum. These findings show a rare case of hydramnios related to fetal congenital deformity in a Hanwoo cow.
4.Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis in a Border Collie: a case report

A 2-year-old spayed female Border Collie presented with visual deficits and behavioral changes. Neurological examination revealed bilateral menace response deficit with a normal pupil light reflex. Cerebral cortical thinning, cerebral sulci and cerebellar fissure widening, ventriculomegaly, and cerebral atrophy were observed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Histopathology revealed fluorescent lipopigment accumulation in the cerebrum, and the dog was diagnosed with neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis. This is the first case report describing the changes in clinical signs, MRI findings, and histopathologic changes in neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis in Korea.

Cancer associated retinopathy (CAR) syndrome is a very rare ocular manifestation of paraneoplastic syndrome, and is characterized clinically by progressive visual impairment. Immune cross-reactivity between antigens in the cancerous tissue and antigens in the retina may play an important role in its pathogenesis, and most of cases are associated with lung carcinoma, particularly small cell lung cancer. The clinical triad of CAR is described as photosensitivity, ring scotomata, and an attenuated retinal arterial caliber. Here, we report a 61-year old male patient with CAR syndrome, who had small cell lung carcinoma in the stage of limited disease, with a brief review of the relevant literature.
