To thoroughly implement the strategic deployment outlined in the Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Promoting the Inheritance and Innovative Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine regarding research on dominant diseases of traditional Chinese medicine and to uphold the development philosophy of equal emphasis on traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine,the China Association of Chinese Medicine has fully played a leading academic role by systematically organizing and conducting a series of academic youth salons on clinical dominant diseases of traditional Chinese medicine. On September 13,2024,the 36th Youth Salon on Clinical Dominant Diseases was successfully held in Nanjing,focusing on the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine and the integrative traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). The conference brought together leading experts from traditional Chinese medicine,western medicine,and interdisciplinary fields,facilitating in-depth multidisciplinary discussions that led to key consensus on optimizing traditional Chinese medicine treatment protocols for ED,researching and developing new drugs of traditional Chinese medicine,and advancing interdisciplinary development in traditional Chinese medicine. This salon systematically sorted out the clinical strengths and distinctive features of traditional Chinese medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of ED. Based on current research foundations and clinical needs,it identified key directions for future scientific layout and scientific research tackling: (1) Standardization of syndrome differentiation system of traditional Chinese medicine for ED. (2) Optimization and standardization of intervention methods of integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine. (3) High-quality clinical research guided by evidence-based medicine. (4) In-depth analysis of the pharmacological mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of ED. (5) Clinical translation and application promotion of new drugs of traditional Chinese medicine. (6) Interdisciplinary integration and innovation in traditional Chinese medicine. For each research direction,key focus areas,expected objectives,and clinical value were further refined,along with the establishment of a scientifically sound priority funding level evaluation system. Therefore,building on the series of salons on the ED-focused dominant diseases of traditional Chinese medicine,this paper provides standardized guidance for clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine in ED management,effectively contributing to the high-quality development of traditional Chinese medicine. It serves as a valuable reference for national scientific and technological strategic layout, research and development decision-making in new drugs of traditional Chinese medicine,research topic planning,and clinical guideline formulation.
2.Relationship between negative parenting styles and borderline personality features of middle school students: the moderating effect of emotional regulation strategies

BackgroundThe middle school stage represents a crucial period for the development of borderline personality features. Negative parenting styles and emotional regulation strategies are associated with the formation of borderline personality features. However, the moderating role of emotional regulation strategies between negative parenting styles and borderline personality features among middle school students remains unclear. ObjectiveTo explore the moderating influence of emotional regulation strategies in the relationship between negative parenting styles and borderline personality features among middle school students, and to provide references for the intervention of borderline personality features. MethodsIn October 2023, a total of 5 965 middle school students from three middle schools in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region were selected by cluster sampling, and assessed by the Borderline Personality Features Scale for Children (BPFS-C), the Egna Minnen Barndoms Uppfostran (EMBU), and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-Chinese Revised Version (ERQ-CRV). Pearson correlation analysis was used to test the correlation between the scores of each scale, and the model 1 of the Process macro program was used to conduct the moderating effect test. ResultsA total of 5 572 middle school students (93.41%) completed this study, and 1 388 of them (24.91%) were identified as having high borderline personality features. The BPFS-C score of middle school students was positively correlated with the score of the negative parenting style dimension of EMBU (r=0.367, P<0.01), negatively correlated with the score of the cognitive reappraisal dimension of ERQ-CRV (r=-0.168, P<0.01), and positively correlated with the score of the expression inhibition dimension of ERQ-CRV (r=0.344, P<0.01). Cognitive reappraisal played a negative moderating effect between negative parenting styles and borderline personality features (β=-0.072, 95% CI: -0.104–-0.041, P<0.01), while expressive suppression played a positive moderating effect (β=0.076, 95% CI: 0.055–0.097, P<0.01). ConclusionCognitive reappraisal strategy may help mitigate the negative influence of negative parenting styles on middle school students' borderline personality features, while expressive suppression may exacerbate the harm of negative parenting styles to the borderline personality features of middle school students.
3.Comprehensive clinical evaluation of phosphate-lowering drugs in the treatment of chronic kidney disease with hyperphosphatemia

OBJECTIVE To conduct a comprehensive clinical evaluation of phosphate-lowering drugs in the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with hyperphosphatemia, and to provide evidence-based support for clinical drug decision-making. METHODS Relevant studies meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria were retrieved, a comprehensive evaluation of efficacy, safety and economics was conducted based on existing study results. Innovation was analyzed from three aspects including filling the clinical gap, and suitability was assessed from two aspects including technical suitability. Accessibility was evaluated based on the survey data from 37 medical institutions in Kunming, combined with information from the National Reimbursement Drug List and national centralized drug procurement. RESULTS A total of 10 meta-analyses and 2 pharmacoeconomic studies were included. In terms of efficacy, all three categories of phosphate-lowering drugs (calcium-based phosphate binders, non-calcium-based phosphate binders, sodium-hydrogen exchanger 3 inhibitors) effectively reduced serum phosphorus levels. Calcium-based phosphate binders elevated serum calcium levels more significantly; sevelamer was superior to calcium-based phosphate binders in reducing intact parathyroid hormone levels; iron-based phosphate binders improved iron metabolism and anemia-related indicators. In terms of safety, iron-based phosphate binders had the highest incidence of gastrointestinal adverse reactions, followed by lanthanum carbonate. In terms of economics, sevelamer demonstrated economic advantages over calcium-based phosphate binders and lanthanum carbonate. In terms of innovation, non-ca lcium-based phosphate binders addressed the clinical limitation of hypercalcemia associated with calcium-based phosphate binders; iron-based phosphate binders met the treatment needs of patients with comorbid iron deficiency anemia; tenapanor exhibited an innovative phosphorus-lowering mechanism. In terms of suitability, all three categories showed good suitability in various aspects. In terms of accessibility, sevelamer had the highest availability rate, while tenapanor was not yet available in medical institutions. All three categories have been included in the National Reimbursement Drug List ; the prices of lanthanum carbonate and sevelamer decreased substantially following centralized procurement with improved affordability. CONCLUSIONS For CKD patients with hyperphosphatemia, non-calcium-based phosphate binders are preferred, among which sevelamer is recommended as the first-line choice. Lanthanum carbonate may be considered for patients with gastrointestinal intolerance; iron-based phosphate binders are preferred for patients with comorbid iron deficiency anemia; tenapanor may be considered for patients with poor response to or intolerance of conventional regimens; calcium-based phosphate binders are not recommended as long-term first-line therapy.
4.The role of bile acid dynamics in inflammatory bowel disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease

The prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is higher among individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) than in the general population. Emerging evidence indicates that the development of MASLD in patients with IBD may occur independently of traditional metabolic risk factors, suggesting a unique pathophysiological mechanism distinct from conventional MASLD pathways. Bile acids (BAs), which act as critical signaling molecules in enterohepatic circulation, play an essential role in maintaining gastrointestinal homeostasis through bidirectional gut–liver axis communication. These molecules are increasingly recognized as pivotal regulators in the progression of both MASLD and IBD. While previous studies have characterized the dynamics of BA in blood or fecal samples under both conditions, a comprehensive understanding of their metabolic profiles and the associated interactions within the gut–liver axis is still lacking. This review synthesizes current evidence from studies employing BA metabolomics to investigate IBD and MASLD. By focusing on BA signatures, we summarize conserved alterations between these two conditions and their potential mechanisms of disease progression. Our review advances understanding of BA-mediated pathways in IBD and MASLD, providing a foundation for assessing their roles in contributing to the pathogenesis of MASLD in patients with IBD.

Natural product-based drug combinations (NPDCs) present distinctive advantages in treating complex diseases. While high-throughput screening (HTS) and conventional computational methods have partially accelerated synergistic drug combination discovery, their applications remain constrained by experimental data fragmentation, high costs, and extensive combinatorial space. Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI), encompassing traditional machine learning and deep learning algorithms, have been extensively applied in NPDC identification. Through the integration of multi-source heterogeneous data and autonomous feature extraction, prediction accuracy has markedly improved, offering a robust technical approach for novel NPDC discovery. This review comprehensively examines recent advances in AI-driven NPDC prediction, presents relevant data resources and algorithmic frameworks, and evaluates current limitations and future prospects. AI methodologies are anticipated to substantially expedite NPDC discovery and inform experimental validation.

6.Advancements and challenges of acupuncture randomized controlled trials.

Acupuncture is an ancient treatment method used in traditional Chinese medicine and has been popularized worldwide. Over the past decade, there has been an increase in the amount of acupuncture research, mostly comprised of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that aimed to answer the question on the efficacy of acupuncture. However, poor methodology and low replicability in these acupuncture RCTs have resulted in uncertainty about the efficacy of acupuncture. In this review, current advancements and challenges in acupuncture RCTs, regarding the methodological aspects of randomization, blinding, sham acupuncture and quality of reporting, were discussed. While there have been advancements in various aspects, current acupuncture RCTs still face pressing issues such as inadequate randomization and blinding, unviable sham acupuncture controls, and poor reporting quality. Given these limitations, this review seeks to identify the methodological problems that are responsible for these problems and to suggest solutions that could help to overcome them so as to improve the quality of future studies evaluating the efficacy of acupuncture. 7.Oroxylin A inhibits UVB-induced non-melanoma skin cancer by regulating XPA degradation.

Oroxylin A (OA), a natural compound extracted from Scutellaria baicalensis, demonstrates preventive potential against ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), the most prevalent cancer worldwide with increasing incidence. Utilizing SKH-1 hairless mice exposed to UVB, this study showed that OA delayed NMSC onset and alleviated acute skin damage. Mechanistic investigations revealed its dual action: inhibiting inflammation and enhancing nucleotide excision repair (NER) by stabilizing XPA, a crucial deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) repair protein. This stabilization occurred through OA's interaction with glucose-regulated protein 94 (GRP94), which disrupted murine double minute 2 (MDM2)-mediated XPA ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. By maintaining XPA levels, OA expedited photoproduct clearance and diminished genomic instability, ultimately impeding NMSC development. These findings suggest OA as a promising chemopreventive agent targeting the GRP94/MDM2-XPA axis to counteract UVB-induced carcinogenesis.

8.The diagnostic value of ultrasound imaging parameters combined with serum PGRN and PD-L1 for lymph node metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer

Objective To explore the diagnostic value of ultrasound imaging parameters combined with ser-um progranulin(PGRN)and programmed cell death ligand 1(PD-L1)for lymph node metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods A total of 135 NSCLC patients admitted to Hengshui Cardiovascu-lar Hospital from February 2022 to May 2024 were selected as the NSCLC group.According to whether lymph node metastasis occurred,the NSCLC patients were divided into the metastasis group(52 cases)and the non-metastasis group(83 cases).Another 135 patients with benign lung diseases who were admitted to the hospi-tal during the same period were selected as the control group.The levels of serum PGRN and PD-L1 were de-tected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was conducted to ana-lyze the factors influencing lymph node metastasis of NSCLC.The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to analyze the diagnostic value of ultrasound imaging parameters[end-diastolic velocity(EDV),peak systolic velocity(PSV),and minimum axial diameter(MAD)]combined with serum levels of PGRN and PD-L1 for lymph node metastasis of NSCLC.Results Compared with the control group,the levels of serum PGRN and PD-L1 in the NSCLC group were significantly increased,and the difference was statistically signifi-cant(P<0.05).Compared with the non-metastasis group,the levels of serum PGRN and PD-L1 in the metas-tasis group were significantly increased,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Compared with the non-metastasis group,the ultrasound imaging parameters EDV,PSV and MAD in the metastasis group were significantly increased,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The results of multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that PGRN,PD-L1,EDV,PSV,and MAD were all independ-ent risk factors affecting lymph node metastasis of NSCLC(P<0.05).The area under the curve(AUC)of serum PGRN,PD-L1 and ultrasound imaging parameters EDV,PSV and MAD for the diagnosis of lymph node metastasis of NSCLC separately was 0.805,0.792,0.745,0.738 and 0.737,respectively.The AUC of com-bined diagnosis for lymph node metastasis of NSCLC was 0.938,which was superior to that of single diagnosis(ZPGRN-combination=3.424,ZPD-L1-combination=4.076,ZEDV-combination=3.891,ZPSV-combination=4.755,ZMAD-combination=4.400,P<0.05).Conclusion Ultrasound imaging parameters combined with serum PGRN and PD-L1 have certain diagnostic value for lymph node metastasis of NSCLC.
9.Dr. Edmunds Grey Dimond: first foreign doctor to visit China for investigating acupuncture anesthesia.

The international dissemination of Chinese acupuncture represents a successful model of medical and cultural exchange between the East and the West, as well as an exemplary case of Chinese culture going global. In 1971, following the announcement by Xinhua News Agency that "acupuncture anesthesia technology had achieved success", American medical educator Professor Edmunds Grey Dimond became the first foreign doctor to visit China for an investigation of acupuncture anesthesia. His efforts significantly contributed to the promotion of Chinese acupuncture within western medical communities. From the perspective of acupuncture humanities, this article reviews and analyzes Dimond's academic background, his journey to study acupuncture anesthesia in China, and his unique insights into acupuncture, exploring how his open-minded and objective approach facilitated the acceptance and dissemination of acupuncture anesthesia and acupuncture techniques in the West.

10.Paroxetine alleviates dendritic cell and T lymphocyte activation via GRK2-mediated PI3K-AKT signaling in rheumatoid arthritis.

BACKGROUND:
G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2) could participate in the regulation of diverse cells via interacting with non-G-protein-coupled receptors. In the present work, we explored how paroxetine, a GRK2 inhibitor, modulates the differentiation and activation of immune cells in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
METHODS:
The blood samples of healthy individuals and RA patients were collected between July 2021 and March 2022 from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University. C57BL/6 mice were used to induce the collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model. Flow cytometry analysis was used to characterize the differentiation and function of dendritic cells (DCs)/T cells. Co-immunoprecipitation was used to explore the specific molecular mechanism.
RESULTS:
In patients with RA, high expression of GRK2 in peripheral blood lymphocytes, accompanied by the increases of phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K), protein kinase B (AKT), and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). In animal model, a decrease in regulatory T cells (T regs ), an increase in the cluster of differentiation 8 positive (CD8 + ) T cells, and maturation of DCs were observed. Paroxetine, when used in vitro and in CIA mice, restrained the maturation of DCs and the differentiation of CD8 + T cells, and induced the proportion of T regs . Paroxetine inhibited the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, the expression of C-C motif chemokine receptor 7 in DCs and T cells. Simultaneously, paroxetine upregulated the expression of programmed death ligand 1, and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, paroxetine inhibited the PI3K-AKT-mTOR metabolic pathway in both DCs and T cells. This was associated with a reduction in mitochondrial membrane potential and changes in the utilization of glucose and lipids, particularly in DCs. Paroxetine reversed PI3K-AKT pathway activation induced by 740 Y-P (a PI3K agonist) through inhibiting the interaction between GRK2 and PI3K in DCs and T cells.
CONCLUSION
Paroxetine exerts an immunosuppressive effect by targeting GRK2, which subsequently inhibits the metabolism-related PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway of DCs and T cells in RA.
