Taking Dr. Wu Lien-teh′s contributions to the containment of the 1910 Northeastern Plague as a starting point, this article briefly examines a century of development in China′s public health and explores the application of the "One Health" concept. It first outlines Dr. Wu′s groundbreaking achievements and enduring institutional legacies, including his pioneering scientific methods, the establishment of a modern public health system, and mechanisms for talent cultivation. Subsequently, the article analyzes Dr. Wu′s containment strategies through the lens of "One Health", demonstrating that his approaches—characterized by multi-sectoral collaboration, international cooperation, administrative support, and evidence-based practice—closely align with core principles of "One Health" idea. The discussion then traces the establishment and development of China′s plague preventive and control system, highlighting its foundation on the principle of "prevention first, combined with treatment and prevention, " as well as achievements in integrated surveillance and control networks, legal frameworks, specialized institutions and professional teams, joint prevention and control mechanisms, and scientific and technological innovation. Finally, the article proposes future directions for China′s public health development, calling for deeper implementation of the "One Health" approach, enhanced cross-border joint prevention and control, a transformation in health governance, and the building of a shared global health community.

As global health challenges become increasingly complex and multidimensional,microbiome research and the One Health approach—along with their integration—actively promote the development of the field of public health laboratory sciences.The microbiome is an essential component of the human body,animals,and the environment.Microbiome research not only elucidates the interaction mechanisms between microorganisms and their hosts but also provides an irreplaceable material basis for the well-being of humans,animals,and the environment,offering new perspectives for the prevention,diagnosis,and treatment of human diseases.Additionally,the One Health approach emphasizes the interconnectedness of human,animal,and environmental health,establishing a theoretical foundation for interdisciplinary collaboration and global health management.The integration of the microbiome and the One Health approach establishes the notion of"the balance of dynamic factors"as a scientific principle underpinning One Health.This integration holds far-reaching implications for expanding new fields and developing new technologies in public health laboratory sciences,as well as informing public health practices.

Objective To evaluate the respective or synergistic value of cytoplasmic tryptophan-tRNA ligase(WARS1/SYWC)and adenosine deaminase(ADA)in diagnosing tuberculous pleural effusion(TPE).Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 120 patients with pleural effusion(64 cases of TPE,56 cases of non-TPE)admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University and its affiliated Shunde Hospital from January 2020 to December 2024.Pleural fluid SYWC levels were identified using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify diagnostic predictors,while receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were plotted to assess the diagnostic perfor-mance of individual and combined biomarkers.Results Compared to the non-TPE group,TPE group exhibited significantly younger age,lower pleural CEA,less serum CEA,and lower neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR),but significantly higher levels of pleural ADA,total protein,SYWC,and serum CRP(all P<0.05).Univariate analysis identified age,pleural CEA,carbohydrate antigen 199,ADA,SYWC,serum CEA,and NLR as potential predictors.Multivariate analysis confirmed pleural ADA(OR=1.064,95%CI:1.017～1.228)and SYWC(OR=6.695,95%CI:2.794～16.04)as independent diagnostic factors.At optimal cutoffs,SYWC(16.94 μg/L)demonstrated a sensitivity of 71.80%and specificity of 98.21%,while ADA(36.5 U/L)showed a sensitivity of 93.75%and a specificity of 89.29%.Combined detection increased the sensitivity to 95.56%,the specificity to 98.0%,and the accuracy to 97.87%.ROC analysis revealed an AUC of 0.973(95%CI:0.943～1.000)for the combination,outperforming ADA(0.897)and SYWC(0.938)alone.Conclusion The combi-nation of SYWC and ADA notably enhances diagnostic efficacy for TPE,providing high sensitivity and specificity as a reliable tool for clinical differentiation.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic inflammatory disease affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Gut microbiota play an important role in keeping the intestinal mucosal barrier, regulating body metabolism and maintaining immune homeostasis. The potential role of the microbiome in the development, progression, and treatment of IBD has aroused more attention. Therefore, a better understanding of the role of gut microbiota in IBD may provide better insights for disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, which is important for understanding the pathogenesis. In this review, research of gut microbiota in IBD are summarized.

Reports a case admitted in the Ward I of Department of Surgery of Zhengzhou Renji Hospital in June 2017. A young child who suffered destructive injury of left forearm, wrist and palm with severed 3rd-5th fingers. Tendon and neurovascular repairs of forearm, wrist and palm were performed with pedicled abdomina flap and the 3rd-5th fingers ectopic replantation in Phase I surgery. In the Phase II surgery, the abdomina flap division was carried out. The replantation of severed fingers after ectopic replantation and the reconstruction of foot defect with free anterolateral thigh flap(ALTF) were carried out in Phase III surgery. In Phase IV surgery, fingers functional reconstruction and foot flap thinning were performed. Four years after surgery, the thumb oppositions to middle, ring and little fingers could be completed, with slightly limitations. The appearance and texture of transferred foot flap were good, and the child could walk and run almost normally.

Objective:To study the protective effect of alendronate combined with Lactobacillus rhamnosus on bone loss in ovariectomized mice.Methods:Fifty female C57BL/6 mice were divided into 5 equal groups ( n=10). Ovariotomy was performed in groups A, B, C and D while a sham operation was performed in group E. Group A was subjected to combined administration of alendronate and Lactobacillus rhamnosus, group B to administration of alendronate, group C to administration of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and groups D and E to administration of physiological saline only. At 3 months after operation, all the mice were sacrificed to harvest their femurs. Micro CT scanning was performed to detect the bone mineral density (BMD), trabecular relative volume, bone surface area/bone volume, and trabecular thickness and number of trabecular bone. Three-point bending test was used to detect the maximum load, stiffness, ultimate load, Young＇s modulus, and fracture energy. Osteocalcin and alkaline phosphatase levels were measured using blood samples from the mice eyeballs. The 2 groups were compared in terms of all the above indexes. Results:The BMD [(669.87±67.87) mg/cm 3], maximum load [(14.35±0.75) N] and fracture energy [(1,497.43±38.29) J/m 2] in group A were significantly higher than those in group B [(520.07±9.01) mg/cm 3, (11.94±0.82) N and(1,277.61±35.12) J/m 2] and group C [(388.15±25.61) mg/cm 3, (11.10±0.93) N and (1,115.27±63.24) J/m 2] (all P<0.05). The osteocalcin level in group A [(22.25±1.78) ng/mL] was significantly higher than that in group B [(19.08±1.45) ng/mL] and group D [(19.33±1.66) ng/mL] (both P<0.05). The alkaline phosphatase level in group A [(83.21±9.69) ng/mL] was significantly lower than that in group C [(113.16±14.44) ng/mL] and group D [(137.96±14.01) g/mL] (both P<0.05). Conclusion:Alendronate combined with Lactobacillus rhamnosus may play a synergistic role in prevention of bone loss in ovariectomized mice, because combined administration of the two is more effective than administration of either of the two.

In February, 2019, a patient with a defect of open dorsal cartilage and bone in the first metatarsal head, including the defects of soft tissue, tendon and joint capsule, was treated in our department. After multiple debridement, the vascularised medial femoral condyle osteochondral chimeric tissue flap was transferred to repair the composite tissue defect in the metatarsal head at the second stage. After 18 months of follow-up, the patient felt no pain in the foot and walking, and there was no sign of lameness and discomfort at donor sites. The postoperative functional recovery was satisfactory.
