OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the impact of different iterative cone beam CT (iCBCT) scanning beam currents from a ring-mounted linac on synthetic CT image quality for lung adaptive radiotherapy under lung scanning protocol.
METHODS:
The CIRS lung motion phantom was configured to simulate conventional respiratory motion pattern, followed by 4D-CT simulation. After transferring the radiotherapy plan to the ring-mounted Halcyon 3.0 linac, three groups of typical iCBCT scans with different beam currents [ I low (160 mA), I middle (282 mA), and I high (491 mA)] were performed and corresponding image reconstructions were completed. Synthetic CT (sCT) images were subsequently obtained based on the deformable registration algorithm.
RESULTS:
Compared to the corresponding CBCT images, the sCT images exhibited a significant reduction in artifacts. The fine structure of the planning CT (pCT) image was preserved for sCT images corresponding to different scanning beam currents, with Dice similarity coefficients exceeding 0.90 for all cases.
CONCLUSION
The image quality of sCT corresponding to different iCBCTs is comparable to that of pCT, and changes in iCBCT beam parameters have a negligible impact on sCT image quality. Taking into account both image quality and imaging dose factors associated with the beam currents, iCBCT with a lower beam current on the ring-mounted Halcyon linac offers greater clinical value in lung adaptive radiotherapy.

In 2025, the American Cancer Society published "Cancer statistics, 2025", which projected cancer data for the upcoming year based on incidence data collected by central cancer registries (through 2021) and mortality data obtained from the National Center for Health Statistics (through 2022). Similarly, the National Cancer Center of China released "Cancer incidence and mortality in China, 2022" in December 2024, analyzing data from 22 cancer registries across the country. This study provides a comparative analysis of cancer incidence and mortality trends in China and the United States during the same period, with a focus on sex- and age-specific distributions and long-term changes in cancer patterns. Long-term trends indicate that lung and liver cancer mortality rates in China have declined, primarily due to tobacco control measures and hepatitis B vaccination programs. However, the burden of gastric and esophageal cancers remains substantial. In the United States, mortality rates for colorectal and lung cancers have continued to decline, largely attributed to widespread screening programs and advances in immunotherapy. As economic growth and social development, China’s cancer profile is gradually shifting towards patterns observed in countries with high human development index. However, the prevention and control of upper gastrointestinal cancers remains a critical public health challenge that requires further attention.

Objective To investigate the effects of liraglutide on the gut microbiota of db/db diabetic mice and the predictive value of the microbial structure for the hypoglycemic efficacy. Methods The db/db mice were randomly divided into control group and liraglutide group(0.4 μg/g).Fasting blood glucose levels were measured in the mice, and fecal samples were collected to determine the structure of the gut microbiota. Results Compared with the control group, the liraglutide group exhibi-ted a significant increase in the average number of operational taxonomic unit(OTU)(P<0.01).The number of observed species,Chao1 index and ACE index were all significantly higher in the liraglutide group than those in the control group(P<0.05).Additionally,the liraglutide group showed a signifi-cant increase in the relative abundance of Firmicutes and a significant decrease in the abundance of Actinobacteria compared with the control group(P<0.01).The percentage decrease in blood glucose levels in db/db mice was positively correlated with the abundance of Pseudomonadaceae and negatively correlated with the abundances of Clostridiaceae and Peptostreptococcaceae. Conclusion Liraglutide treatment can modulate the structure of the gut microbiota, increasing the number of OTU and diversity, particularly enhancing the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Clostridium,Lachnospira and Oscillospira. The gut microbiota structure in mice serves as a predictive factor for the hypoglycemic efficacy of liraglutide, with diabetic mice exhibiting a higher abundance of Pseudomonas being more likely to benefit from liraglutide-induced hypoglycemic therapy.

Objective:To investigate the relation between temporal expression changes of proline-rich transmembrane protein 2 ( PRRT2) gene and clinical progression of PRRT2-related paroxysmal disorders (PRPDs). Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed; 19 patients with PRPDs admitted to Department of Neurology, Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from July 2021 to July 2024 were enrolled; their clinical data, including onset age and disease progression, were collected. Using Bgee database, the PRRT2 gene expressions in different age groups were analyzed to explore their relations with clinical progression. Results:Among the 19 patients, 8 were diagnosed as having infantile convulsion with choreoathetosis (ICCA), 1 patient as having infantile convulsion, and 10 as having paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia (PKD). Among patients with ICCA, the disease course was divided into two stages: in infantile period, it manifested as infantile convulsions at the onset, with an onset age of (5.75±1.03) months, ranged 4-7 months; in early childhood, no seizures were noted, enjoying a silent period and lasting for a period ranged 7-15 years; subsequently, the disease relapsed during adolescent, presenting as dyskinesia, with an onset age of (11.75±3.11) years, ranged 8-16 years. Among patients with PKD, onset age was (10.40±3.17) years, ranged 5-17 years. PRRT2 expression peaked before 1 year old, declined to the lowest level at 10 years old, and then gradually increased, reaching a second peak at 17 years old; PRRT2 expression demonstrated bimodal peaks during early childhood and adolescence. Conclusion:PRPDs progression shows a certain consistency with the temporal change of PRRT2 gene expression.
