OBJECTIVE:
To compare the efficacy of percutaneous pedicle screw combined with unilateral nail placement combined with bone cement strengthening and bilateral nail placement in the treatment of osteoporotic thoracic and lumbar fractures.
METHODS:
A retrospective case-control study was used to analyze the clinical data of 78 patients with osteoporotic thoracic and lumbar fractures admitted from October 2017 to May 2019. According to the surgical method, it was divided into percutaneous pedicle screw combined with unilateral nail placement combined with unilateral bone cement strengthening group(bone cement group) and percutaneous pedicle screw combined with bilateral nail placement(screw group). In the bone cement group, 40 patients included 16 males and 24 females, with a mean age of (62.1±8.1) years old. In the screw group, 38 patients included 18 males and 20 females with a mean age of (65.1±9.3) years old. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay and postoperative complications were compared between two groups. The kyphosis Cobb angle, anterior edge height ratio, central height ratio and pain visual analogue score(VAS) were compared.
RESULTS:
All patients were followed up for 25 to 36 months. The operation time (70.1±17.3) min of the cement group was shorter than that of the screw group (78.6±18.2) min(P<0.05). There were no significant differences in intraoperative blood loss and length of hospital stay(P>0.05). The VAS in the cement group 1 year 1.5±0.5 and the latest follow-up 0.5±0.3 after operation were lower than 1 year 1.8±0.3 and the latest follow-up 0.8±0.4 in the screw group(P<0.05). The kyphosis Cobb angle, anterior edge height ratio, central height ratio in bone cement group, 1 year (6.2±1.2)°, (86.6±3.5)%, (91.1±2.5)%, the last follow-up (6.4±0.7)°, (85.5±3.3)%, (90.5±6.3)% were better than that of the screw group 1 year (6.8±1.4)°, (83.1±2.4)%, (89.9±3.4)% and the latest follow-up (7.1±1.1)°, (82.6±4.1)%, (87.6±5.9)%(P<0.05). There were 3 cases of bone cement leakage in the cement group, all of which had no clinical symptoms;and 2 cases of pedicle screws were extracted in the screw group, and the screws were removed at the last follow-up.
CONCLUSION
Percutaneous pedicle screw combined with unilateral nail placement combined with bone cement strengthening and bilateral nail placement in the treatment of osteoporotic thoracic and lumbar compression fractures in the elderly can achieve satisfactory efficacy and effectively relieve the pain of patients, but the former internal fixation system is more stable, and the long-term follow-up can effectively maintain the height of the anterior middle column and the correction of kyphosis deformity, and the incidence of chronic low back pain is lower.

Aim To explore the neuroprotective effects of salidroside on Parkinson's disease(PD)through modulation of inflammatory responses and the underly-ing mechanisms. Methods Mice were divided into five groups:healthy control group,1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP)disease group,low-dose Rhodioloside intervention group,medium-dose salidroside intervention group, and high-dose salidro-side intervention group.MPTP-induced PD mouse model was established, and salidroside intervention was administered.Behavioral changes, inflammatory cyto-kine levels,autophagy-related protein expression, and neurons were observed through histological analysis and immunohistochemical staining. Results After MPTP treatment, mice exhibited significant behavioral chan-ges,increased pro-inflammatory cytokines, decreased anti-inflammatory cytokines, reduced autophagy-related proteins, and evident pyroptosis.Salidroside interven-tion alleviated these changes in a dose-dependent man-ner.Conclusions Salidroside exerts neuroprotective effects on PD by alleviating inflammatory responses and promoting autophagy, thereby protecting neurons.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between fibroblast growth factor receptor-2(FGFR2)gene polymorphisms and the risk of breast cancer and its protein expression in Han women from Heilongjiang,China.Meth-ods:Using the Snapshot technique for multiplex single nucleotide polymorphism genotyping, the polymorphisms rs3135718 and rs1219648 of FGFR2 were analyzed in 747 breast cancer patients and 716 healthy controls.Logistic re-gression was used to examine the association between these genotypes and breast cancer susceptibility. In a subset of 338 cases, immunohistochemistry was performed to assess FGFR2 protein expression, and chi-square tests was used to analyze the relationship between polymorphisms and protein expression. Results:The genotype frequencies of FGFR2 rs3135718 and rs1219648 showed significant differences between the breast cancer and control group.Logistic regression revealed that, for rs3135718,the CT,CC,and CT+CC genotypes were associated with increased breast cancer risk compared to the TT genotype(OR=1.280,95%CI:1.003-1.633;OR=1.500,95%CI:1.112-2.023;OR=1.341,95%CI:1.066-1.688).For rs1219648,the GA,GG,and GA+GG genotypes were significantly associated with higher breast cancer risk compared to the AA genotype(OR=1.352,95%CI:1.063-1.719;OR=1.826,95%CI:1.361-2.504;OR=1.475,95%CI:1.175-1.852).However,no significant association was found between FGFR2 rs3135718 and rs1219648 polymorphisms and FGFR2 protein expression(χ2=0.052,P=0.820;χ2=0.117,P=0.732).Conclusion:FGFR2 gene poly-morphisms rs3135718 and rs1219648 are significantly associated with breast cancer susceptibility in Han women from Heilongjiang,China, but these polymorphisms do not show a clear relationship with FGFR2 protein expression.

Objective:
To investigate the potential efficacy and safety of Lutai Danshen Baishao granules (LDBG) for treating female melasma associated with kidney deficiency and blood stasis patterns.
Methods:
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at the Third Central Hospital of Tianjin, China from March to December 2023. A total of 110 female patients with melasma linked to kidney deficiency and blood stasis were enrolled and treated with either LDBG or a placebo twice daily for 60 days. Efficacy was assessed through measures such as the total melasma area, reduced melasma area, reduction rate of melasma area, melasma color score, Melasma Area and Severity Index (MASI) score, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom score scale. Safety assessments included routine blood and biochemical tests.
Results:
Participants in both groups were aged 52–63 years, with no significant differences. After the 2-month intervention, the total melasma area decreased in both groups; however, a greater reduction was observed in the test group [462.50 mm2 (12.81%) vs. 100.00 mm2 (3.11%), P < .001]. Moreover, LDBG treatment significantly reduced the MASI and melasma color scores in the test group (P < .05). The total TCM symptom evaluation score significantly decreased (test group: 6.00 vs. placebo group: 7.00, P = .001), with significant relief in symptoms such as improvement in dark lips, nails, and waist soreness in the test group, compared with that in the placebo group (P < .05). Within-group comparisons revealed that TCM syndrome was significantly alleviated in the test group (P < .05).
Conclusion
LDBG intervention shows promising effectiveness in reducing female melasma and alleviating TCM syndromes.
