Limited data exist regarding the real-world practices and clinical outcomes in patients with ischemic heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fractions (LVEFs).Using nationwide registry data from South Korea, we aimed to investigate long-term outcomes and clinical practices, especially implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) implantation, in patients with reduced LVEFs at least 40 days after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Of 13,056 patients with AMI between 2011 and 2015, we analyzed 350 (median age, 66 years [interquartile range, 56-75]) who had LVEFs <40% on follow-up transthoracic echocardiogram 40 days after the index event. The primary outcome was cardiac-cause mortality at 3 years. Secondary outcomes comprised major cardiovascular events as well as outcomes defined by the use of ICDs, cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillators (CRT-Ds), and electrophysiology studies. Among 350 patients, 39 (11.1%) died from cardiac causes during 3 years of follow-up. Eleven (3.1%) were hospitalized for ventricular tachycardia. The rate of ICD or CRT-D implantation up to 3 years was 5.7% (20/350). Cox time-to-event analysis revealed older age, LVEF <30%, diabetes mellitus, and previous MI or revascularization as positively associated with cardiac death, whereas the use of statins and body weight <67 kg were negatively associated. This nationwide Korean registry demonstrated that only 5.7% of patients who had reduced LVEFs after 40 days of AMI underwent ICD implantations over 3 years. Considering the high mortality, concerted efforts are needed to improve clinical outcomes for patients who may have been candidates for ICD implantation.

Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2026;31(1):1-20
Objectives:
We mapped trends in studies on dietary behaviors, nutritional status, and nutrition-related education among individuals with developmental disabilities in Korea over the past decade to identify research gaps and inform future research and policy development.
Methods:
A scoping review was conducted using three major Korean academic databases (RISS, KISS, and DBpia). Studies published between 2015 and September 2025 were identified using combinations of keywords related to developmental disabilities, dietary behavior, nutrition, and health-related interventions. Eligible studies included empirical studies and secondary research (e.g., systematic or scoping reviews) conducted in Korea that focused on dietary behaviors, nutrition, health promotion, or nutrition-related education for individuals with developmental disabilities. Thirty-six studies met our inclusion criteria and were analyzed based on study design, study population, disability type, research topic, and publication period.
Results:
Observational quantitative, qualitative, intervention-based experimental, and evidence synthesis accounted for 27.8%, 13.9%, 22.2%, and 36.1% of all included studies, respectively. Children and adolescents (27.8%) and adults (25.0%) were the most frequently studied populations, with limited studies focusing on professionals or teachers. Most studies targeted individuals with developmental disabilities as a combined group (61.1%), followed by those specifically targeting autism spectrum disorder. Research topics included dietary behaviors and nutritional status, nutrition-related education and interventions, health promotion, and medical or clinical issues, with many small-scale and shortterm intervention studies.
Conclusion
Although research on dietary and nutrition-related issues among individuals with developmental disabilities in Korea has expanded in scope and methodology, significant limitations remain. Future research should adopt longitudinal and community-based approaches, incorporate diverse populations, and strengthen policy-oriented nutrition support systems to promote sustainable health and quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Objective:
This study aims to objectively evaluate turning gait parameters in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients using 2D-RGB video-based analysis and explore their relationships with imbalance.
Methods:
We prospectively enrolled PD patients for clinical assessment, balance analysis and gait with 180º turning. Spatiotemporal gait parameters during turning were derived using video-based analysis and correlated with modified Hoehn and Yahr (mHY) stages and center of pressure (COP) oscillations.
Results:
A total of 64 PD patients were enrolled. The PD patients with higher mHY stages (≥2.5) had significantly longer turning times, greater numbers of steps, wider step bases and less variability in step length during turns. COP oscillations were positively correlated with the mean turning time on both the anterior-posterior and right-left axes.
Conclusion
Spatiotemporal gait parameter during turning, derived from video-based gait analysis, may represent apromising biomarker for monitoring postural instability in PD patients.

Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) is a salvage treatment option for patients with relapsed or refractory lymphoid malignancies. However, the clinical variables impacting outcomes in these patients remain unclear. We analyzed 58 patients who underwent allo-SCT for lymphoid malignancies, including B-cell lymphoma (BCL, n = 20), Hodgkin’s disease (n = 3), multiple myeloma (n = 9), natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NK/TCL, n = 4), and TCL (n = 22).The median progression-free survival (PFS) was 27.4 months, while the median overall survival (OS) was 30.6 months. In univariate analysis, human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching and complete remission status post-transplantation were associated with improved PFS and OS. However, only post-transplant response remained significant for both sur‑ vival outcomes in the multivariate analysis. Moreover, HLA matching was associated with a significantly improved PFS in patients with BCL and NK/TCL, but with better OS only in those with BCL. Complete remission after transplantation was associated with better PFS and OS in patients with BCL, NK/TCL, and TCL. Our results indicate that post-transplant response is an important prognostic indicator in allo-SCT for lymphoid malignancies and may guide clinical decisions and additional treatment.

Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery 2025;17(2):340-345
Background:
Bone substitutes such as hydroxyapatite (HA) ceramic and recombinant bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) are essential in treating bone defects. However, the challenges of controlled and localized BMP-2 delivery necessitate the development of advanced bone graft substitutes. This study introduces and evaluates an innovative, ready-to-use bone substitute employing 3-dimensional-printed poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) scaffolds combined with BMP-2 to enhance bone regeneration efficiency.
Methods:
We conducted a comparative study using C57BL/6 mice to evaluate the efficacy of rhBMP-2-coated PLLA scaffolds against traditional HA-based bone graft materials. The PLLA scaffolds were coated with varying concentrations of BMP-2 using an alginate-catechol method. Bone regeneration was assessed through micro-computed tomography (CT) imaging and histological analysis 4 weeks after implantation. The statistical significance of bone mass and formation differences across groups was determined using Student t-test and analysis of variance.
Results:
Micro-CT analysis revealed substantial bone formation in the group with PLLA scaffolds containing 0.1% BMP-2, exhibiting a bone volume ratio of 11.1% ± 2.8%, significantly higher than all other groups (p = 0.008). Histological analysis corroborated these findings, showing dense collagen deposition and active osteoblast presence in this group, indicating enhanced bone regeneration.
Conclusions
The novel PLLA scaffold with alginate-catechol-coated BMP-2 significantly enhances bone regeneration compared to traditional bone graft materials. This innovative approach holds promising potential for clinical applications in orthopedics, particularly for treating bone defects.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2025;63(1):11-14
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory condition affecting multiple systems in the body, distinguished by the presence of noncaseating granulomas. It is believed that specific exposures to external antigens in individuals with genetic predisposition lead to the development of these granulomas. When diagnosing sarcoidosis, tuberculosis (TB) is a potential alternative explanation for the symptoms. Our case describes a rare coexistence of cutaneous sarcoidosis and TB pleurisy in a 75-year-old male. He was diagnosed with cutaneous sarcoidosis on his face. During the investigation for possible involvement of other organs, pleural effusion was discovered, and it was determined to be caused by mycobacterial infection. The patient received a 6-month course of anti-TB drugs to treat the TB pleurisy, while a topical calcineurin inhibitor was applied to the cutaneous sarcoidosis. This case serves as a reminder to dermatologists that the coexistence of TB with sarcoidosis is possible, not just as a differential diagnosis.

Korean Journal of Health Promotion 2025;25(1):20-28
Background:
Middle-aged cancer survivors lack specific health guidelines compared to young and old cancer survivors. Their increased prevalence necessitates the establishment of tailored health guidelines. This study aimed to investigate the health-related behaviors of middle-aged cancer survivors compared to those of the general population.
Methods:
This cross-sectional study analyzed 17,332 adults aged 40–65 years who participated in the sixth and seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013–2018). Data on cancer screening, alcohol consumption, smoking, physical activity, sedentary time, and dietary management were collected via self-reported questionnaires. Propensity score matching (1:5) revealed 591 middle-aged cancer survivors and 2,955 non-cancer controls. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression analyses were conducted to compare the demographic characteristics and health-related behaviors of both groups.
Results:
Multivariate analysis revealed that middle-aged cancer survivors were significantly less likely to consume alcohol (odds ratio [OR]: 0.64; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.51–0.81) and smoke (OR: 0.65; 95% CI: 0.43–0.99) and more likely to engage in aerobic physical activity (OR: 1.33; 95% CI: 1.08–1.64) and practice dietary management (OR: 1.47; 95% CI: 1.17–1.84) than the non-cancer controls. However, no significant differences in cancer screening adherence and sedentary time were observed between both groups.
Conclusions
Overall, this study provides fundamental data for the development of tailored health guidelines and patient education programs for cancer survivors.
