Objective: To investigate the associations between T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) features and clinicopathologic characteristics in invasive breast cancer, as well as their relationship with treatment response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 179 women with invasive breast cancer who underwent preoperative 3T breast MRI between November 2020 and February 2021. Intratumoral T2 signal intensity (SI) and peritumoral edema were graded on T2WI, and T2 relaxation times were calculated both including and excluding necrotic or cystic areas. T2 relaxation times were compared across T2 SI grades using the Kruskal–Wallis test. Associations between T2 features and clinicopathologic factors were assessed using chi-square tests and logistic regression analyses. In patients who received NAC (n = 68), associations between T2 features and NAC outcomes were also evaluated. Results: Higher intratumoral T2 SI and peritumoral edema grades were significantly associated with longer T2 relaxation times (P < 0.001). Intratumoral T2 SI grades were associated with higher clinical T category, axillary lymph node metastasis, and tumor multiplicity (all P < 0.05). Longer intratumoral T2 relaxation times were associated with higher clinical T category, hormone receptor (HR) negativity, and the triple-negative subtype (all P < 0.05), even after excluding necrotic or cystic areas.Higher peritumoral edema grades were associated with advanced clinical T category, HR negativity, and the triple-negative subtype (all P < 0.05). T2 relaxation times of peritumoral edema showed no significant associations, except with higher clinical T category (P = 0.005) and estrogen receptor status (P = 0.030). In the NAC subgroup, higher intratumoral T2 SI grades and longer T2 relaxation times were significantly associated with disease progression during NAC (P < 0.05), but not with non-pathologic complete response. Peritumoral edema showed no significant association with NAC outcomes (P > 0.05). Conclusion T2-weighted MRI features were associated with clinicopathologic factors, including clinical T category, HR status, triple-negative subtype, and disease progression during NAC.

Background: Although nail psoriasis is a common manifestation among patients with psoriasis, large-scale research exploring the association between nail psoriasis lesions and their intra-nail locations has not been conducted. This study is necessary to elucidate the shared pathophysiology among various phenotypes of nail psoriasis. Objective: We aimed to understand the association between nail psoriasis lesions and analyze their intra-nail locations. Methods: We obtained a total of 5,602 cropped fingernail images from 636 patients with psoriasis. We employed the Computer Vision Annotation Tool to annotate the intra-nail locations of nail psoriasis lesions. We computed χ 2 statistic to examine the relationship between nail psoriasis lesions and conducted an analysis of their intra-nail locations. Results: Based on the number of lesions, nail pitting was the most common, followed by leukonychia, with the red spots in the lunula being the rarest. We elucidated the associations between different nail psoriasis lesions, pinpointing a significant association between onycholysis and oil spots (χ 2 statistic=1,623.88), followed by onycholysis-subungual hyperkeratosis (1,607.50), and subungual hyperkeratosis-oil spots (985.76). A spatial relationship was observed between onycholysis and oil spots, with the intra-nail location of onycholysis being more distal compared to the nearest oil spots. A distribution pattern of nail psoriasis was also demonstrated, where nail matrix lesions were primarily located at the center of the nail, and nail bed lesions were predominantly located near the lateral nail folds. Conclusion This study represents a pioneering analysis of the intra-nail location of nail psoriasis lesions, revealing substantial associations and spatial relationships between different lesions.

Background: Despite various therapeutic modalities for keloids have been introduced; however, their therapeutic effects are limited. Therefore, the development of a new approach for inhibiting collagen production by scar fibroblasts is needed. Objective: To investigate the effect of electrical stimulation using a low-frequency and low-intensity alternating current on collagen and MMP-1 levels in human dermal fibroblasts. Methods: Low-frequency (20 kHz) and low-intensity (1 V/cm) electrical stimulations were applied to primary dermal fibroblasts. The production of type I procollagen and expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 were evaluated. Transcriptomic analyses were conducted to explore the possible modes of action of electrical stimulation. Results: Electrical stimulation effectively suppressed type I procollagen production and increased MMP-1 expression. In addition, transcriptomic analyses revealed that electrical stimulation altered the gene expression associated with membrane permeability and the structure of cellular membranes. Validation using real-time polymerase chain reaction revealed that electrical stimulation significantly altered the expression of mechanosensitive ion channels (PIEZO2) and membrane-bound protein organizing caveolae (CAVIN2). Conclusion Electrical stimulation using low-frequency and low-intensity alternating currents effectively modulates extracellular matrix homeostasis by altering the cellular membrane structure and function. Our findings suggest a promising therapeutic approach for the management of keloids and hypertrophic scars.

Objectives: To provide a basis for the development of oral health intervention programs by investigating the demographic characteristics and mental health effects of oral health behaviors in Korean adults. Methods: Data from 4,013 adults aged ≥19 years who participated in the 2022 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were analyzed. The variables included demographic characteristics, presence of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and oral health behaviors. The analyses used frequency, percentage, chi-square tests, and complex sample logistic regression (IBM SPSS version 25.0). Statistical significance was set at P<0.05. Results: The prevalence of GAD was higher in females, younger adults, and those with a lower income. GAD was significantly associated with unfavorable oral health behaviors, particularly reduced tooth brushing frequency and lower use of oral hygiene products. Conclusions GAD is associated with poor oral health behaviors, highlighting the requirement for integrated healthcare approaches. Regular check-ups, tailored oral health education, and collaboration between dental and mental health professionals are recommended to improve oral health, particularly in individuals with GAD.

Objective: To evaluate the added value of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI)-based quantitative parameters to distinguish uterine sarcomas from atypical leiomyomas on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Materials and Methods: A total of 138 patients (age, 43.7 ± 10.3 years) with uterine sarcoma (n = 44) and atypical leiomyoma (n = 94) were retrospectively collected from four institutions. The cohort was randomly divided into training (84/138, 60.0%) and validation (54/138, 40.0%) sets. Two independent readers evaluated six qualitative MRI features and two DWI-based quantitative parameters for each index tumor. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify the relevant qualitative MRI features. Diagnostic classifiers based on qualitative MRI features alone and in combination with DWI-based quantitative parameters were developed using a logistic regression algorithm. The diagnostic performance of the classifiers was evaluated using a cross-table analysis and calculation of the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results: Mean apparent diffusion coefficient value of uterine sarcoma was lower than that of atypical leiomyoma (mean ± standard deviation, 0.94 ± 0.30 10-3 mm2 /s vs. 1.23 ± 0.25 10-3 mm2 /s; P < 0.001), and the relative contrast ratio was higher in the uterine sarcoma (8.16 ± 2.94 vs. 4.19 ± 2.66; P < 0.001). Selected qualitative MRI features included ill-defined margin (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 17.9; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.41–503, P = 0.040), intratumoral hemorrhage (aOR, 27.3; 95% CI, 3.74–596, P = 0.006), and absence of T2 dark area (aOR, 83.5; 95% CI, 12.4–1916, P < 0.001). The classifier that combined qualitative MRI features and DWI-based quantitative parameters showed significantly better performance than without DWI-based parameters in the validation set (AUC, 0.92 vs. 0.78; P < 0.001). Conclusion The addition of DWI-based quantitative parameters to qualitative MRI features improved the diagnostic performance of the logistic regression classifier in differentiating uterine sarcomas from atypical leiomyomas on preoperative MRI.
