OBJECTIVES: To explore the mediating role of sleep duration in the relationship between depression symptoms and myopia among middle school students. METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional research conducted using a stratified cluster random sampling method. A total of 1 728 middle school students were selected from two junior high schools and two senior high schools in certain urban areas and farms of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Questionnaire surveys and vision tests were conducted among the students. Spearman analysis was used to analyze the correlation between depression symptoms, sleep duration, and myopia. The Bootstrap method was employed to investigate the mediating effect of sleep duration between depression symptoms and myopia. RESULTS: The prevalence of myopia in the overall population was 74.02% (1 279/1 728), with an average sleep duration of (7.6±1.0) hours. The rate of insufficient sleep was 83.62% (1 445/1 728), and the proportion of students exhibiting depression symptoms was 25.29% (437/1 728). Correlation analysis showed significant negative correlations between visual acuity in both eyes and sleep duration with depressive emotions as measured by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (with correlation coefficients of -0.064, -0.084, and -0.199 respectively; P<0.01), as well as with somatic symptoms and activities (with correlation coefficients of -0.104, -0.124, and -0.233 respectively; P<0.01) and interpersonal relationships (with correlation coefficients of -0.052, -0.059, and -0.071 respectively; P<0.05). The correlation coefficients for left and right eye visual acuity and sleep duration were 0.206 and 0.211 respectively (P<0.001). Sleep duration exhibited a mediating effect between depression symptoms and myopia (indirect effect=0.056, 95%CI: 0.029-0.088), with the mediating effect value for females (indirect effect=0.066, 95%CI: 0.024-0.119) being higher than that for males (indirect effect=0.042, 95%CI: 0.011-0.081). CONCLUSIONS Sleep duration serves as a partial mediator between depression symptoms and myopia in middle school students.

Objective:To explore and ascertain the current situation and developmental trend of occupational radiation diseases prevention and control in non-medical institutions in Jiangsu province, including types of radiation hazards, occupational health training and health examinations for radiation workers, and radiation levels in the workplace.Methods:In response to the monitoring plan developed by the National Institute for Radiological Protection, China CDC, a comprehensive survey was conducted of the basic situation and occupational health management of radiation occupation categories in 13 prefecture level cities and 95 counties (cities, regions) of non-medical institutions in the province in 2022. The monitoring result were obtained mainly through delivering questionnaires or the relevant information for cross comparing from the relevant regulatory bodies, and meanwhile were compared with previous data, tested on site and checked for quality control ampmt other things. After confirmation, data was filled out on the National Radiological Health Information Platform. The main contents of the survey include the number of radiation workers, personal dose monitoring, training status, occupational health examinations, personal protective equipment, etc.Results:By the end of 2022, there was a total of 26 478 radiation workers at 2 124 radiation workpalces in non-medical institutions in Jiangsu province, of which 25 054 radiation workers having received personal dose monitoring. with a monitoring frequency of 94.62%. In recent years, 24 305 radiation workers have participated in radiation protection training, with a training rate of 91.79% and 25 293 ones undergone occupational health examinations, with a examination frequency of 95.52%. The radiation levels monitored in the workplace meet national requirements.Conclusions:The number of non-medical institutions and radiation workers in Jiangsu province is relatively large and mainly distributed in the south Jiangsu. The coverage rate of personal dose monitoring, radiation protection training, and occupational health examinations for radiation workers exceeds 90%, higher than the national average. However, there is still a certain gap from full coverage. In the future, the supervision and management level of occupational disease prevention and control should be improved, and the health level of radiation workers in non-medical institutions should be monitored without blind spots.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the application effect of microwave digestion - vacuum filtration - automated scanning electron microscopy (MD-VF-Auto SEM) method and plankton gene multiplex PCR system in the diagnosis of drowning. METHODS: Lung, liver and kidney tissue of 10 non-drowning cases and 50 drowning cases were prepared for further MD-VF-Auto SEM method analysis and plankton gene multiplex PCR system analysis. The positive detection rate of the two methods in each tissue was calculated. RESULTS: The positive rate of the MD-VF-Auto SEM method detecting diatoms in drowning cases was 100%, and few diatoms were detected in the liver and kidney tissues of 6 non-drowning cases. By using the plankton gene multiplex PCR system, the diatom positive rate of drowning cases was 84%, and all the non-drowning cases were negative. There were significant differences in the positive rate of the liver, kidney tissues between MD-VF-Auto SEM method and plankton gene multiplex PCR system (P<0.05), as well as the total positive rate of cases. However, no significant differences were found in the positive rates of lung tissues (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS MD-VF-Auto SEM method is more sensitive than plankton gene multiplex PCR system in diatom test. But the plankton gene multiplex PCR system can also detect plankton other than diatoms. Combination of the two methods can provide a more reliable basis for the diagnosis of drowning.

AIM: To understand the status of poor vision and analyze the main influencing factors among primary and secondary school students in a division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and provide a scientific basis for prevention and control of poor vision.METHODS: A total of 12 primary and secondary schools in a divisional urban district and regiment field of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps were chosen using stratified cluster random sampling from August to October 2020. A total of 2 982 primary and secondary school students were selected for visual inspections and questionnaires. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of poor vision.RESULTS: The rate of poor vision was 65.66% among 2 982 primary and secondary school students in the division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, with the majority severe poor vision. Furthermore, the rates of poor vision were higher in girls(70.17%)than that in boys(61.47%)(χ2=4.993, P<0.001)and the urban area(70.03%)were higher than the rural area(58.96%)(χ2=38.680, P<0.001)and the Han nationality students(66.83%)were higher than Uyghur students(52.82%)(χ2=19.772, P<0.001). The risk of poor vision increased with age(χ2trend =300.144, P<0.001), and by the age group ≥18 years old, the rate of poor vision reached 80.47%. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the women, the age≥13 years old, writing and reading duration every day ≥2h, cram school on weekends and presence of myopia in parents increases the risk of poor vision, increase the outdoor exercise time, sleep time ≥8h, and do eye exercises every day can reduce the occurrence of poor vision.CONCLUSION: Poor vision rate of primary and secondary school students in the division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps is higher than that of many regions in the country. Girls with the age(≥13 years old)whose parents are myopic should receive special attention. Increasing outdoor exercise time, doing eye exercises every day, and keeping your eyes more than one foot away from books when reading and writing is effective in preventing poor vision.

Objective To evaluate the correlation of the positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MR) parameters with the pathological differentiation of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC) and the diagnostic efficiencies of PET/MR parameters. Methods Patients with clinical suspicion of HNSCC were included and underwent PET/MR scan. HNSCC was pathologically confirmed in all these patients. The PET/MR examination included PET and MR sequences of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and T2-and T1-weighted imaging. The multiple parameters of PET/MR included the mean values of apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) and the maximum and mean values of standardized uptake value (SUV and SUV) were measured and estimated. The correlations of all the parameters and distribution between the different tumor differentiation groups were analyzed. Logistic regression was utilized to build the model as the PET/MR combined parameter for predicting the differentiation by multiple parameters of PET/MR. The receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated for each parameter and the combination. Results Totally 23 patients were included in this study:9 patients (9 males and 0 female) had well-differentiated tumor,with an average age of (61.0±6.8)years;14 cases had moderately-differentiated (n=10) or poorly-differentiated tumors (n=4),with an average age of (62.0±9.1) years. All the patients were males. There was statistical correlation between SUV and SUV (P<0.001);however,ADC showed no statistical correlation with SUV and with SUV (P=0.42,P=0.13). ADC and SUV showed significant difference between well-differentiated group and moderately-poorly-differentiated group (P=0.005,P=0.007). Compared with the individual parameters,the combination of PET/MR parameters with SUV and ADC had higher efficacy in predicting tumor differentiation,with an area under curve of 0.84. Conclusions The distributions of ADC,SUV and SUV differ among HNSCC with different pathological differentiation. Compared with the individual parameters,the combination of the PET/MR parameters has higher efficiency in predicting tumor differentiation.

Objective To investigate the effect of natriuretic peptide on vascular endothelial function and inflammatory factors of patients with heart failure complicating myocardial infarction.Methods Two hundred and twenty-six patients with heart failure complicating myocardial infarction admitted into Hanzhong Central Hospital from March 2012 to March 2016 were randomly divided into experimental group (n =138) and control group (n =128).Patients in control group were treated with conventional drug,and patients in experimental group were treated with natriuretic peptide based on conventional drug treatment.The vascular endothelial function,contents of NO and eddthelin 1,and inflammatory factors including CRP,IL-6,and TNF-α were detected.Results After 2 weeks of treatment,the flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) and NO in experimental group were remarkably higher than those in control group,and eddthelin 1 was significantly lower than those of control group (P ＜ 0.05).Additionally,CRP,IL-6,and TNF-α in experimental group were significantly lower than those in control group after treatment for 5 d (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Natriuretic peptide could improve the vascular endothelial function of patients with heart failure complicating myocardial infarction via increasing the content of NO and decreasing content of eddthelin 1,and was benefit to cardiac function by inhibiting release of inflammatory factors.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship among serum reproductive hormone levels, serum homocysteine (Hcy) levels, metabolic syndrome (MS), and the components of MS in middle-aged and elderly males.

METHODSUsing the cluster and stratified sampling methods and a unified structured questionnaire, we conducted a survey among 948 men aged 40 - 80 years in the rural community, measured their basic physical parameters, and obtained their reproductive hormone levels, serum Hcy concentrations, and metabolism-related indicators. We collected 868 valid questionnaires along with their serum samples, divided the subjects into an MS and a non-MS control group in a 1:1 ratio, and measured their serum Hcy concentrations.

RESULTSAmong the subjects included, 132 were diagnosed with MS. Nonparametric tests showed statistically significant differences between the MS and non-MS groups in the waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR), body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (P < 0.05), but not in age (P > 0.05). Significant differences were also observed between the two groups in the levels of serum tT, SHBG, LH, and FTI (P < 0.05) , but not in the concentrations of serum Hcy (P > 0.05). The concentration of serum Hcy exhibited no correlation with BMI, SBP, DBP, FBG, TG, and HDL-C (P > 0.05) and had no influence on MS.

CONCLUSIONThe concentration of serum Hcy is not significantly correlated with MS, nor with its components. The levels of male serum reproductive hormones are associated both with MS and with its components.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic mechanism of bazedoxifene, the third-generation selective ER modulator (SERM), on endometriosis lesions in a rat model. Methods Endometriosis was induced by transplanting pieces of endometrium from other syngeneic rats that were as donors onto the subcutaneous of other unmated female rats. The rats with successful ectopic implants were divided into two groups:control group (n=10) and bazedoxifene group (n=10). The macroscopic morphology, volume, histopathology of ectopic implant and rats uterine wet weight were determined before and after the treatment. Expression of proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), ER and PR in the eutopic endometrium and endometriosis lesions detected by immunohistochemistry in the two groups. Results (1) The gross morphology and histological changes of endometriosis lesions in rats after treatment: compared with the control group, it was obviously depauperated and had more less glands and blood vessels in the stroma. (2) The change of rats′weight, the volume of endometriosis lesion before and after treatment and rats uterine wet weigh after treatment respectively in the control group and the bazedoxifene group:rats′ weight were respectively before treatment: (201±17) g, (202±18) g, that were respectively after treatment: (266±16) g, (261±16) g, which showed no significant difference between two groups before and after treatment (P>0.05). The volume of ectopic implant before treatment were respectively (85±17) mm3, (85±12) mm3, and showed no significant difference between two groups;that were respectively (48±11) mm3, (24±9) mm3 afte rtreatment, which was significantly decreased compared with the control group (P<0.05). Rats uterine wet weight after treatment were respectively:(0.77±0.16) g, (0.45±0.18) g, and was significantly reduced compared with the control group (P<0.05). (3) The protein expression levels of PCNA, ER and PR in the endometriosis lesions after treatment were respectively 0.282 ± 0.044, 0.51 ± 0.06, 0.49 ± 0.05 in the control group, 0.191 ± 0.020, 0.23 ± 0.03, 0.48 ± 0.06 in the bazedoxifene group; that in eutopic endometrium were respectively 0.369 ± 0.081, 0.56 ± 0.08, 0.56 ± 0.10 in the control group, 0.211 ± 0.037, 0.27 ± 0.05, 0.54 ± 0.08 in the bazedoxifene group;the protein expression levels of PCNA and ER in endometriosis lesions and the eutopic endometrium were significantly decreased in the bazedoxifene group compared with the control group (P<0.05), but the protein levels of PR in endometriosis lesionsand and the eutopic endometrium were not significantly altered by treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion Bazedoxifene could obviously reduce the size of endometriosis lesions, the mechanism may be related with suppressing estrogen-induced proliferation, the expression of ER and direct ER antagonism by this SERM.

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) combined with addback therapy after laparoscopic surgery on 153 cases with severe endometriosis patients. Methods 153 cases with severe endometriosis patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery from 2011 to 2013 were retrospectively analyzed in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. According to GnRHa or addback therapy three groups were divided:GnRHa group,GnRHa and addback therapy group, control group. The curative effects of different treatment group, adverse reactions, recurrence rates, and fertility were analyzed. The follow-up time was 6-24 months with an average time of 17.15 months. Results 51 patients suffered from obvious menopausal symptoms and received addback therapy (Progynova,0.5~1 mg/d). The VAS score and Kupperman score in GnRHa group,GnRHa and addback therapy group were significantly superior to the control group (P <0.05). And no statistical significance was found in the interval to relapse, recurrence and postoperative pregnancy rate (P>0.05). The VAS scores in the GnRHa group and addback therapy group were 2.14±2.02 and 1.73±2.17 , respectively (P > 0.05). The main side effect of GnRHa group is hot flashes, diaphores, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, etc. The incidences were higher in the GnRHa group than that in the addback therapy group. But the addback therapy can significantly relieve the symptoms of low estrogen introduced by the application of GnRHa (P<0.05). Conclusions Laparoscopic combined with GnRHa treatment can significantly improve clinical curative effect of endometriosis. Addback therapy could abate the side reaction of GnRHa and do not affect the clinical curative effect. The clinical curative effect in the GnRHa and addbacktherapy group were superior to the GnRHa group.
