Alcoholic liver disease(ALD), a major cause of chronic liver disease worldwide, poses a serious threat to human health. Despite the availability of various drugs for treating ALD, their efficacy is often uncertain, necessitating the search for new therapeutic approaches. Traditional Chinese medicine polysaccharides have garnered increasing attention in recent years due to their versatility, high efficiency, and low side effects, and they have demonstrated significant potential in preventing and treating ALD. Emerging studies have suggested that these polysaccharides exert their therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including the inhibition of oxidative stress and the regulation of lipid metabolism, gut microbiota, and programmed cell death. This review summarizes the recent research progress in the pharmacological effects and regulatory mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine polysaccharides in treating ALD, aiming to provide a scientific basis and theoretical support for their application in the prevention and treatment of ALD.

This study primarily aimed to investigate the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and other common pathogens of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in spermatozoa of infertile men and their effects on semen parameters. These pathogens included Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum, Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium , herpes simplex virus 2, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus agalactiae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Staphylococcus aureus . A total of 1951 men of infertile couples were recruited between 23 March 2023, and 17 May 2023, at the Department of Reproductive Medicine of The First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province (Kunming, China). Multiplex polymerase chain reaction and capillary electrophoresis were used for HPV genotyping. Polymerase chain reaction and electrophoresis were also used to detect the presence of other STIs. The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 12.4%. The top five prevalent HPV subtypes were types 56, 52, 43, 16, and 53 among those tested positive for HPV. Other common infections with high prevalence rates were Ureaplasma urealyticum (28.3%), Ureaplasma parvum (20.4%), and Enterococcus faecalis (9.5%). The prevalence rates of HPV coinfection with Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum, Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium , herpes simplex virus 2, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus agalactiae , and Staphylococcus aureus were 24.8%, 25.4%, 10.6%, 6.4%, 2.4%, 7.9%, 5.9%, 0.9%, and 1.3%, respectively. The semen volume and total sperm count were greatly decreased by HPV infection alone. Coinfection with HPV and Ureaplasma urealyticum significantly reduced sperm motility and viability. Our study shows that coinfection with STIs is highly prevalent in the semen of infertile men and that coinfection with pathogens can seriously affect semen parameters, emphasizing the necessity of semen screening for STIs.

This study was aimed at identifying the pathogenic bacteria responsible for the death of a young tiger at the Fujian Meihua Mountain South China Tiger Breeding Research Institute.Tissue samples from the lungs,liver,and intestines of the deceased tiger were collected,and the bacteria were cultured inasterile environment.The bacterial strains were characterized according to their morphological and molecular biological properties,including assessment of virulence genes and antibiotic resistance genes,mouse lethality tests,and antibiotic susceptibility evaluations.A predominant bacterial strain isolated from the liver of the deceased tiger was identified as enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC)strain Tiger22513F.Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene revealed that the Tiger22513F strain exhibited close genetic similarity to the reference strain ETEC(MF919609.1),with 99.9%nucleotide similarity,and resided on the same evolutionary branch.The Tiger22513F strain contained 11 antibiotic resistance genes(tetA,sul1,sul3,cmlA,floR,blaTEM,blaSHV,blaCMY-2,qnrA,qnrS,and qnrD)along with five virulence genes(VT1,fyuA,tsh,iucD,and ST).Mouse lethality tests indicated significant pathogenicity toward mice,affecting primarily the lungs,liver,and intestines.Antibiotic susceptibility testing demonstrated that this strain exhibited resistance to various classes of beta-lactam antibiotics,as well as quinolones and aminoglycosides.This investigation successfully isolated a multi-drug resistant enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli strain with pronounced pathogenicity from the liver of a deceased tiger;thus providing valuable scientific insights for clinical diagnosis,as well as prevention and control measures,against ETEC infections in South China tigers.

Objective:To investigate the incidence of mild cognitive impairment(MCI)and malnutrition among centenarians, as well as to explore the relationship between cognitive impairment and nutritional status.Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted between November and December 2023, involving 121 elderly individuals aged ≥ 100 years in the Baoshan District of Shanghai.The survey collected general information and included the Ascertain Dementia 8-item Questionnaire(AD8), the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short-Form(MNA-SF), and anthropometric nutritional measurements such as waist circumference(WC), hip circumference(HC), arm circumference(AC), calf circumference(CC), and grip strength.The prevalence of MCI and malnutrition among centenarians was calculated, and the correlation between MCI and MNA-SF scores, along with anthropometric nutritional measurement indicators, was analyzed.Results:The age range of centenarians was between 100 and 105 years, with an average age of 101.0±3.5 years.The majority of centenarians were female(76.9%), illiterate(58.7%), and lived with family members(73.6%).All participants had medical insurance(100%).Most had no history of long-term smoking 118(97.5%), long-term alcohol consumption 108(89.3%), long-term use of health supplements 109(90.1%), long-term tea or coffee habits 114(94.2%), chronic medical conditions 84(69.4%), or family history of dementia 102(84.3%).Additionally, 62(51.2%)reported their health status over the past year as general.According to the AD8 screening results, the negative and positive detection rates of MCI in centenarians were 79(65.3%)and 47(34.7%), respectively.Based on the MNA-SF scoring results, the detection rates of normal nutrition, malnutrition risk, and malnutrition among centenarians were 36(29.8%), 61(50.4%), and 24(19.8%), respectively.There was a statistically significant difference in AC between the non-MCI group and the MCI group among centenarians( t=0.01, P=0.03).The AD8 scores of centenarians were significantly negatively correlated with AC, CC, and MNA-SF scores( r=-0.20, r=-0.26, r=-0.29; all P<0.05). Conclusions:The cognitive function of centenarians is associated with their nutritional status, indicating that higher cognitive abilities correlate with better nutritional status.

Objective:To investigate ⅰ)the therapeutic effects of different doses of recombinant human prourokinase(rh-proUK)on patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI)undergoing percutaneous coronary inter-vention(PCI),and ⅱ)its impact on peripheral blood P-selectin(CD62p)and Adropin levels.Methods:This randomized control study enrolled 132 STEMI patients undergoing PCI in Weinan Second Hospital between June 2020 and June 2023.Patients were randomly divided into control group(n=44,routine medication),low dose group(n=44,10 mg rh-proUK therapy)and high dose group(n=44,20 mg rh-proUK therapy).Therapeutic effective rate,myocardial perfu-sion immediate after operation,cardiac function,peripheral blood CD62p and Adropin levels,incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events(MACE)within 1 month after operation were compared among three groups.Results:Compared to patients in control group,those in high dose group had significantly higher total effective rate(95.5％vs.54.6％),pro-portions of TIMI myocardial perfusion grade(TMPG)grade 3(86.4％vs.25.0％)and ST segment resolution above 30％(∑STR≥30％)(88.6％vs.59.1％),stroke volume(SV)[(76.81±24.47)ml vs.(61.89±14.84)ml]and cardiac output(CO)[(6.48±1.45)L/min vs.(5.48±1.98)L/min],and significantly lower corrected TIMI frame count(CT-FC)[(31.80±6.32)frames vs.(52.39±7.14)frames],CD62p[(70.52±9.54)％vs.(82.42±12.44)％],Adropin[(82.48±9.55)pg/ml vs.(94.48±10.53)pg/ml]and total incidence of MACE(9.1％vs.38.6％)(P＜0.05 or＜0.01).Compared to those in low dose group,patients in high dose group had significantly higher total effective rate,pro-portions of TMPG grade 3 and ∑STR≥30％,SV and CO,and significantly lower CTFC,CD62p,Adropin and total inci-dence of MACE(P＜0.05 or＜0.01).Conclusion:The therapeutic effect of 20 mg rh-proUK on STEMI patients under-going PCI is significantly better than that of 10 mg,which could improve cardiac function,reduce CD62p,Adropin levels,and incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events.

Objective:To investigate the risk factors of major adverse cardiovascular events(MACE)in patients with early-onset acute coronary syndrome(ACS)after emergency percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)during hospitalization.Methods:Clinical data of 234 patients who were diagnosed with early-onset ACS and received emergency PCI in the Affil-iated Hospital of Southwest Medical University between January 2019 and December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.According to the occurrence of MACE during hospitalization,the patients were divided into no MACE group(n=130)and MACE group(n=104),and the clinical data were compared between two groups.Multivariate Logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of MACE in patients with early-onset ACS after PCI during hospitalization.Results:Compared with those in no MACE group,patients in MACE group had significant higher age[49(45,53)years vs.52(47,55)years],proportions of hypertension(41.5％vs.66.4％)and multi-vessel coronary disease(50.8％vs.67.3％),levels of aspartate aminotransferase(AST)[118.8(58.1,222.1)U/L vs.179.0(72.1,306.5)U/L],creatinine[64.0(54.1,72.9)μmol/Lvs.70.9(59.5,84.0)μmol/L],D-dimer(D-D)[0.3(0.2,0.5)mg/L vs.0.7(0.3,1.7)mg/L]and peak N terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP)[188.0(100.0,570.8)pg/ml vs.2044.5(688.0,3527.8)pg/ml],and significant lower hemoglobin(Hb)level[148(139,156)g/L vs.139(126,155)g/L(P＜0.05 or＜0.01).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis indicated that hypertension(OR=3.711,95％CI 1.450～9.500,P=0.006),D-D(OR=2.385,95％CI 1.353～4.206,P=0.003)and NT-proBNP peak level(OR=1.002,95％CI 1.001～1.003,P＜0.001)were independent risk factors for MACE in early-onset ACS patients after emergency PCI during hospitalization.Conclusion:Hypertension,D-D and NT-proBNP peak level could independently predict the short-term poor prognosis of patients with early-onset ACS after emergency PCI.Early intervention should be carried out to improve the prognosis of patients.
