The MGF300-4L protein of African swine fever virus(ASFV),a virulence-associated fac-tor,degrades IKKβ through the chaperone-mediated autophagy and enhances the stability of IKBαto suppress the generation of IL-1β and TNF-α regulated by the NF-κB signaling pathway. To iden-tify the host proteins interacting with MGF300-4L,PK-15 cells were transfected with the eukary-otic plasmid expressing MGF300-4L and analyzed using immunoprecipitation-mass spectrometry(IP-MS)to identify the host proteins that interact with MGF300-4L.Additionally,gene ontology(GO)and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses were conducted.Furthermore, molecular docking a-nalysis,co-immunoprecipitation,and laser confocal microscopy assays were performed to validate the host proteins interacting with MGF300-4L.The IP-MS analysis identified 145 host proteins that potentially interact with MGF300-4L.Subsequent GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analy-ses revealed that these proteins are predominantly involved in metabolic, cellular, and innate immune responses.Through molecular docking prediction,co-immunoprecipitation assay, and laser confocal microscopy,we identified the interaction between MGF300-4L and STAT1.This study provides critical insights into the mechanisms underlying the interactions between MGF300-4L and the host proteins.

BACKGROUND:
While emotional distress, encompassing anxiety and depression, has been associated with negative clinical outcomes, its impact across various clinical departments and general hospitals has been less explored. Previous studies with limited sample sizes have examined the effectiveness of specific treatments (e.g., antidepressants) rather than a systemic management strategy for outcome improvement in non-psychiatric inpatients. To enhance the understanding of the importance of addressing mental health care needs among non-psychiatric patients in general hospitals, this study retrospectively investigated the impacts of emotional distress and the effects of early detection and management of depression and anxiety on hospital length of stay (LOS) and rate of long LOS (LLOS, i.e., LOS >30 days) in a large sample of non-psychiatric inpatients.
METHODS:
This retrospective cohort study included 487,871 inpatients from 20 non-psychiatric departments of a general hospital. They were divided, according to whether they underwent a novel strategy to manage emotional distress which deployed the Huaxi Emotional Distress Index (HEI) for brief screening with grading psychological services (BS-GPS), into BS-GPS ( n = 178,883) and non-BS-GPS ( n = 308,988) cohorts. The LOS and rate of LLOS between the BS-GPS and non-BS-GPS cohorts and between subcohorts with and without clinically significant anxiety and/or depression (CSAD, i.e., HEI score ≥11 on admission to the hospital) in the BS-GPS cohort were compared using univariable analyses, multilevel analyses, and/or propensity score-matched analyses, respectively.
RESULTS:
The detection rate of CSAD in the BS-GPS cohort varied from 2.64% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.49%-2.81%) to 20.50% (95% CI: 19.43%-21.62%) across the 20 departments, with a average rate of 5.36%. Significant differences were observed in both the LOS and LLOS rates between the subcohorts with CSAD (12.7 days, 535/9590) and without CSAD (9.5 days, 3800/169,293) and between the BS-GPS (9.6 days, 4335/178,883) and non-BS-GPS (10.8 days, 11,483/308,988) cohorts. These differences remained significant after controlling for confounders using propensity score-matched comparisons. A multilevel analysis indicated that BS-GPS was negatively associated with both LOS and LLOS after controlling for sociodemographics and the departments of patient discharge and remained negatively associated with LLOS after controlling additionally for the year of patient discharge.
CONCLUSION
Emotional distress significantly prolonged the LOS and increased the LLOS of non-psychiatric inpatients across most departments and general hospitals. These impacts were moderated by the implementation of BS-GPS. Thus, BS-GPS has the potential as an effective, resource-saving strategy for enhancing mental health care and optimizing medical resources in general hospitals.

African swine fever(ASF)is a highly contagious and pathogenic disease affecting both domestic and wild pigs, which is caused by African swine fever virus(ASFV).In European epidem-ics,low-virulence strains of ASFV,which do not have hemadsorbing properties, have been identi-fied.Following the identification of highly virulent genotype Ⅱ ASFV strains in China in 2018,subsequently,low-virulence strains of genotype Ⅱ and genotype Ⅰ emerged.Recombination be-tween genotypes Ⅰ and Ⅱ has also led to the occurrence of high-virulence strains. This indicates a complex and diverse genetic evolution of ASFV during the epidemiological transmission, which po-ses significant challenges for vaccine development and disease surveillance. Here,we provide an o-verview of the novel epidemiological characteristics of ASFV,with a focus on genetic variations and pathogenic differences during the outbreaks of ASF.We also explore how ASFV genetic varia-tions impact immune escape and pathogenicity of the virus, and the challenges they pose for vac-cine development, disease diagnosis, and surveillance. The aim of this review is to enhance our un-derstanding of the genetic evolution and mutation mechanisms of ASFV,providing a theoretical basis for the development of vaccines and research on diagnostic technologies.

Objective Studies on the relationship between iodine, vitamin A(VA),and vitamin D(VD)and thyroid function are limited. This study aimed to analyze iodine and thyroid-stimulating hormone(TSH)status and their possible relationships with VA,VD,and other factors in postpartum women. Methods A total of 1,311 mothers(896 lactating and 415 non-lactating)from Hebei,Zhejiang, and Guangxi provinces were included in this study. The urinary iodine concentration(UIC),TSH,VA,and VD were measured. Results The median UIC of total and lactating participants were 142.00 μg/L and 139.95 μg/L,respectively.The median TSH,VA,and VD levels in all the participants were 1.89 mIU/L,0.44 μg/mL,and 24.04 ng/mL,respectively.No differences in the UIC were found between lactating and non-lactating mothers.UIC and TSH levels were significantly different among the three provinces. The rural UIC was higher than the urban UIC.Obese mothers had a higher UIC and a higher prevalence of excessive TSH.Higher UICs and TSHs levels were observed in both the VD deficiency and insufficiency groups than in the VD-sufficient group. After adjustment,no linear correlation was observed between UIC and VA/VD.No interaction was found between vitamins A/D and UIC on TSH levels. Conclusion The mothers in the present study had no iodine deficiency.Region, area type,BMI,and VD may be related to the iodine status or TSH levels.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy of the plan-do-check-action (PDCA) quality circle in improving the ability for teaching rounds among clinical mentors, and to enhance the construction of teaching staff and the quality of teaching rounds. Methods:The hospital-level assessment scores of the ability for teaching rounds were collected from 34 clinical mentors in different clinical departments of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in 2021, and such data were used to investigate the influencing factors for the quality of teaching rounds. Then a PDCA plan was developed and executed to improve the quality of teaching rounds. After the implementation of this plan, hospital-level assessment of the ability for teaching rounds was performed for 34 clinical mentors who were randomly selected from different clinical departments in 2022. The 34 clinical mentors who received the hospital-level assessment of the ability for teaching rounds in 2021 were enrolled as control group, and the 34 clinical mentors who received such assessment in 2022 were enrolled as experimental group. The assessment scores were compared between the two groups to evaluate the implementation effect of PDCA, and SPSS 20.0 was used for data analysis. Categorical data were expressed as number of cases or percentage and were analyzed using the chi-square test, and continuous data were expressed as mean±standard deviation and were analyzed using the t-test. Results:Assessment indices included the preparation, execution, skills, and overall impression of teaching rounds. After the implementation of PDCA, there was a significant increase in the excellence rate of assessment scores (76.47% vs. 50.00%) and a significant reduction in the unqualified rate of assessment scores (2.94% vs. 20.59%), with a significant difference ( P=0.031). There was a tendency of increase in the scoring rates of ward round execution (83.44% vs. 88.26%), ward round skills (82.60% vs. 91.09%), and overall impression (90.20% vs. 93.63%), and there were also significant increases in the scores of ward round skills [(14.87±3.02) vs. (16.40±1.53), P=0.020], improvement of the clinical thinking abilities of trainees through diagnosis and differential diagnosis [(7.96±1.66) vs. (8.93±0.93), P=0.006], guidance for trainees to formulate reasonable diagnosis and treatment regimens [(4.18±1.11) vs. (4.82±0.47), P=0.005], and emphasis on key and challenging points in the teaching process [(3.01±0.76) vs. (3.97±0.17), P<0.001]. Conclusions:The application of PDCA can improve the performance of clinical mentors in the process of teaching rounds, enhance their ability for teaching rounds, fortify the team construction of clinical mentors, and help to improve the quality of teaching rounds.
