Objective To explore the clinical characteristics of organ donors in the intensive care unit (ICU), analyze the impact of comprehensive ICU treatment on organ function maintenance and donation efficiency, and provide data support for optimizing organ donation management strategies. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 263 donors who underwent organ donation after ineffective active treatment in the ICU of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2020 to January 2024. The clinical characteristics, main therapeutic measures in the ICU, and organ donation situations were analyzed. Results The 263 organ donors had an out-of-hospital hospitalization duration of 2 (1, 5) days and an in-hospital hospitalization duration of 4 (3, 6) d. The acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ (APACHE Ⅱ) score at admission was (21±5). Among them, 16.7% had a history of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 30.4% had a history of hypertension, and 48.7% had a history of cranial surgery. The duration of enteral nutrition provided in the ICU was 18 (8, 32) h, with daily energy provision of 160 (0, 320) kcal, parenteral nutrition provided non-protein energy of 877 (710, 1 058) kcal daily. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy was performed 0.25 (0, 0.50) times a day. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) was performed in 90.1% of the cases, with an average daily duration of 10 (6, 16) h. The daily dosage of human albumin was 40 (30, 50) g, and the daily dosage of methylprednisolone was 120 (80, 160) mg. The most commonly used empirical anti-infection regimens included cefoperazone-sulbactam in 59 cases (22.4%), meropenem combined with vancomycin in 31 cases (11.8%), and piperacillin-tazobactam in 29 cases (11.0%). The most commonly used goal-directed anti-infection adjustment regimen was meropenem combined with vancomycin in 21 cases (8.0%). After comprehensive treatment in the ICU, cardiac function, some liver functions, some coagulation functions, renal function, electrolytes, and infection indicators improved. A total of 981 organs were donated by the 263 organ donors, with 23 organs discarded. The average organ yield rate was 3.64, and the organ utilization rate was 97.7%. Conclusions Comprehensive ICU treatment may significantly improve the cardiac function, some liver functions, coagulation functions, and infection indicators of organ donors, enhance the effect of organ function maintenance, and provide an effective guarantee for optimizing organ donation management in the ICU and improving organ utilization rates.

Journal of Prevention and Treatment for Stomatological Diseases 2025;33(9):773-783
Objective:
To analyze the trends, gender, and age differences in the incidence of lip and oral cavity cancer in Chinese population from 1990 to 2021 and predict future incidence trends, providing a scientific basis for disease prevention and public health policy.
Methods:
Incidence data of lip and oral cavity cancer in Chinese population from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database from 1990 to 2021 were analyzed. The Joinpoint regression model was used to assess temporal trends, the age-period-cohort model was used to evaluate the independent effects of age, period, and cohort, and the Bayesian age-period-cohort model (BAPC) model was used to predict incidence trends from 2022 to 2044.
Results:
From 1990 to 2021, the age-standardized incidence rate of lip and oral cavity cancer in Chinese population increased from 2.39/100 000 to 3.76/100 000, and the crude incidence rate rose from 1.71/100 000 to 4.85/100 000. The incidence rate in males was higher and increased more rapidly than in females. Higher incidence rates were prevalent among older populations, a rapid increase in incidence rates occurred during 2003 to 2012, and earlier birth cohorts showed overall higher risks. BAPC predictions indicated a continued rise in incidence from 2022 to 2044. During this period, male incidence stabilized while female incidence increased at a relatively faster rate.
Conclusion
The incidence of lip and oral cavity cancer in Chinese population has revealed a continuous upward trend, particularly among males and older populations. Future prevention strategies should focus on these high-risk populations.

Background::Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and diameter, stiffness, and wave reflections, are independent and important clinical biomarkers and risk predictors for cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of the present study was to establish nationwide reference values of carotid properties for healthy Chinese adults and to explore potential clinical determinants.Methods::A total of 3053 healthy Han Chinese adults (1922 women) aged 18-79 years were enrolled at 28 collaborating tertiary centers throughout China between April 2021 and July 2022. The real-time tracking of common carotid artery walls was achieved by the radio frequency (RF) ultrasound system. The IMT, diameter, compliance coefficient, β stiffness, local pulse wave velocity (PWV), local systolic blood pressure, augmented pressure (AP), and augmentation index (AIx) were then automatically measured and reported. Data were stratified by age groups and sex. The relationships between age and carotid property parameters were analyzed by Jonckheere-Terpstra test and simple linear regressions. The major clinical determinants of carotid properties were identified by Pearson’s correlation, multiple linear regression, and analyses of covariance.Results::All the parameters of carotid properties demonstrated significantly age-related trajectories. Women showed thinner IMT, smaller carotid diameter, larger AP, and AIx than men. The β stiffness and PWV were significantly higher in men than women before forties, but the differences reversed after that. The increase rate of carotid IMT (5.5 μm/year in women and 5.8 μm/year in men) and diameter (0.03 mm/year in both men and women) were similar between men and women. For the stiffness and wave reflections, women showed significantly larger age-related variations than men as demonstrated by steeper regression slopes (all P for age by sex interaction <0.05). The blood pressures, body mass index (BMI), and triglyceride levels were identified as major clinical determinants of carotid properties with adjustment of age and sex. Conclusions::The age- and sex-specific reference values of carotid properties measured by RF ultrasound for healthy Chinese adults were established. The blood pressures, BMI, and triglyceride levels should be considered for clinical application of corresponding reference values.

Cancer stem cell(CSC)are the"seed"cells in the occurrence, development, metastasis and recurrence of colorectal cancer.Targeted killing of CSC provides a new target for anti-colorectal cancer therapy.Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death mode due to the abnormal accumulation of intracellular i-ron ions, which results in the massive reactive oxygen species(ROS)and lipid peroxides, leading to cell death.Studies have shown that cancer stem cells are more enriched in iron ions than non-CSC,which provides a new perspective for targeting ferropto-sis in cancer stem cells against colorectal cancer. This article re-views the research progress of inducing CSC ferroptosis in the treatment of colorectal cancer, such as targeted regulation of SLC7A11 expression in CSC,chelating iron in CSC lysosomes, targeting CSC phenotypic plasticity, reversing CSC iron homeo-stasis,and targeting CSC lipid droplet metabolism induce CSC ferroptosis, which provides new ideas for anti-tumor therapy.

Objective:To analyze the current situation of low copper diet management in children with hepatolenticular degeneration, so as to provide reference and help for individualized low copper diet guidance. Methods:Questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview were used. In the questionnaire survey, a total of 113 parents of children with hepatolenticular degeneration who were treated in the Pediatric Outpatient Department and ward of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College Hospital from August 2021 to October 2022 were selected as the research objects. And a self-designed Low Copper Diet Status Questionnaire for Children with Hepatolenticular Degeneration was used for investigation. In the semi-structured interview, the purposive sampling method was used to recruit research objects that met the inclusion criteria. When the information reached saturation, they were no longer included, and finally 16 interviewees were included. Results:The results of the questionnaire showed that the items with the lowest accuracy in the part of the low-copper diet knowledge questionnaire for parents of children with hepatolenticular degeneration were "whether the food was edible according to the amount of copper in the food, for example, if the copper content in 100 g food exceeded 0.5 mg, it was forbidden to eat" and "in the following bean food (tofu, yuba, dried bean curd, oily bean curd), which one had the highest copper content". Among the 113 children, 55 were completely managed by their parents on a low copper diet, 53 children were jointly managed with their parents on a low copper diet, and 4 children were self-managed on a low copper diet. A total of 64 children currently followed the principle of a low copper diet, only consuming a few major categories of foods with low copper content. A total of 32 children ensured a diversified diet while ensuring that the total copper content in their daily food did not exceed the standard. The themes extracted from semi-structured interviews included insufficient awareness of low copper diet among parents of affected children, concerns about their children dining outside, doubts about how to balance low copper diet and nutritional balance among parents, and hopes that medical staff could provide some assistance in low copper diet guidance. Conclusions:The management of low-copper diet in children with hepatolenticular degeneration is poor. The parents of the affected children lack knowledge about low copper diet and have many confusions, and there is an urgent need for medical personnel to provide more specific, rich and practical guidance on low copper diet.
