Objective:
To explore the biological effects of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) with different high intensities on condylar cartilage in rats.
Methods:
SD rats were randomly divided into a sham group (Sham) and an irradiation group (EMP1: 500 kV/m, 10 Hz; EMP2: 270 kV/m, 10 Hz). Then, they were sacrificed at 1 h, 3 h, 12 h, 24 h and 3 d after irradiation. The degree of cartilage degeneration was evaluated by HE, safranine O-fast green, type Ⅱ collagen immunohistochemistry and TUNEL staining. Immunohistochemistry and western blot were performed to detect the expression of the matrix degradation factors: matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13), a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS-5) and the apoptosis key factor cleaved-cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase (cleaved-Caspase3) in condylar cartilage.
Results :
HE staining showed that, compared with the Sham group, a small amount of exfoliation was found on the fibrous surface layer of the cartilage after irradiation in the EMP1 and EMP2 groups. Compared with the Sham group, the percentage of safranine O-fast green-positive area decreased significantly at 12 h and 24 h (both P<0.01) in the EMP1 group and 12 h and 24 h in the EMP2 group (both P<0.05); the percentage of type Ⅱ collagen-positive area decreased significantly at 3 h and 12 h (P<0.05, P<0.001) in the EMP1 group. In addition, the number of TUNEL-positive apoptotic cells increased significantly at 1 h, 3 h, 12 h, and 24 h in the EMP1 group and 1 h, 3 h, and 12 h in the EMP2 group (P<0.05). Moreover, at different timepoints (except at 3 d) in the EMP1 group and EMP2 group, the percentage of MMP-13, ADAMTS-5- and cleaved Caspase3-positive chondrocytes and their protein levels in condylar cartilage increased significantly after irradiation (P<0.05).
Conclusion
EMP with a certain degree of high-intensity can induce early transient damage to condylar cartilage. This effect is dose-and time-dependent.

Objective To study the correlation of preoperative hemoglobin amount with venous thromboembolism (VTE) after surgical treatment of bronchiectasis and the clinical significance. Methods A retrospective study was performed on patients with bronchiectasis who underwent surgical treatment in our center from June 2017 to November 2021. The differences in blood parameters between the VTE patients and non-VTE patients were compared. The relationship between preoperative hemoglobin and VTE was confirmed by quartile grouping and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results A total of 122 patients were enrolled, including 50 males and 72 females, with a mean age of 52.52±12.29 years. The overall incidence of VTE after bronchiectasis was 9.02% (11/122). Preoperative hemoglobin amount (OR=0.923, 95%CI 0.870-0.980, P=0.008) and D-dimer amount (OR=1.734, 95%CI 1.087-2.766, P=0.021) were independent influencing factors for VTE after bronchiectasis. The incidence of VTE after bronchiectasis decreased gradually with the increase of preoperative hemoglobin amount. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of postoperative D-dimer alone was 0.757, whereas the AUC of postoperative D-dimer combined with preoperative hemoglobin amount was 0.878. Conclusion Low preoperative hemoglobin is an independent risk factor for postoperative VTE. Postoperative D-dimer combined with preoperative hemoglobin amount has a better predictive performance compared with postoperative D-dimer alone for postoperative VTE.

Polymer micelles formed by self-assembly of amphiphilic polymers are widely used in drug delivery, gene delivery and biosensors, due to their special hydrophobic core/hydrophilic shell structure and nanoscale. However, the structural stability of polymer micelles can be affected strongly by environmental factors, such as temperature, pH, shear force in the blood and interaction with non-target cells, leading to degradations and drug leakage as drug carriers. Therefore, researches on the structural integrity and in vivo distribution of micelle-based carriers are very important for evaluating their therapeutic effect and clinical feasibility. At present, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) technology has been widely used in real-time monitoring of aggregation, dissociation and distribution of polymer micelles ( in vitro and in vivo). In this review, the polymer micelles, characteristics of FRET technology, structure and properties of the FRET-polymer micelles are briefly introduced. Then, methods and mechanism for combinations of several commonly used fluorescent probes into polymer micelles structures, and progresses on the stability and distribution studies of FRET-polymer micelles ( in vitro and in vivo) as drug carriers are reviewed, and current challenges of FRET technology and future directions are discussed.

Polymeric hydrogels have been widely researched as drug delivery systems, wound dressings and tissue engineering scaffolds due to their unique properties such as good biocompatibility, shaping ability and similar properties to extracellular matrix. However, further development of conventional hydrogels for biomedical applications is still limited by their poor mechanical properties and self-healing properties. Currently, nanocomposite hydrogels with excellent properties and customized functions can be obtained by introducing nanoparticles into their network, and different types of nanoparticles, including carbon-based, polymer-based, inorganic-based and metal-based nanoparticle, are commonly used. Nanocomposite hydrogels incorporated with polymeric micelles can not only enhance the mechanical properties, self-healing properties and chemical properties of hydrogels, but also improve the

The risk of perioperative venous thromboembolism (VTE) is pretty high in thoracic cancer patients. Perioperative VTE influences the recovery of patients after operation and quality of life in the future, even seriously leading to death. To strengthen the knowledge and attention of thoracic surgeons on perioperative VTE in thoracic cancer patients, China National Research Collaborative Group on VTE in Thoracic Surgery released the edition of VTE prophalaxis in thoracic cancer patients: Chinese experts consensus in 2018. This article is to interpret the diagnostic value and risk prediction value of D-dimer in VTE in detail, and briefly introduce the role of other biomarkers in VTE of tumor patients. The consensus interpretation aims to deepen the understanding of thoracic surgeons on the clinical significance of D-dimer in VTE.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the ratio of living related donor renal volume (RV) to recipient body surface area (BSA) (RV/BSA) and early postoperative function of transplanted kidney. Methods Clinical data of 120 pairs of donors and recipients undergoing living related renal transplantation were retrospectively analyzed. According to the RV/BSA ratio, the recipients were divided into group A (RV/BSA<65.33 mL/m2), group B (RV/BSA 65.33~76.49 mL/m2), group C (RV/BSA 76.50~96.96 mL/m2) and group D (RV/BSA > 96.96 mL/m2). The postoperative estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of recipients was compared among 4 groups. The correlation between the RV/BSA and eGFR of recipients at postoperative 6 and 12 months was analyzed. Results The eGFR at postoperative 6 month in group A was significantly lower than that in groups B, C and D (t=2.313, 2.947, 5.903; all P<0.05). The eGFR at postoperative 12 month in group A was also significantly lower than that in groups B, C and D (t=2.189, 2.433, 2.909;all P<0.05). The RV/BSA was significantly correlated with the eGFR of recipients at postoperative 6 and 12 months (all P<0.05).Conclusions RV/BSA is intimately correlated with the early function of transplanted kidney after living related renal transplantation.

Objective To explore the relationship between DNA methyctransferace1(DNMT1)gene polymorphism and cognitive function in the first episode, drug-na?ve schizophrenia. Methods One hundred eighty-six first episode, drug-na?ve schizophrenia patients and 182 healthy controls were examined by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and silver staining to determine genotype and allele of DNMT1 gene. Cognitive function was assessed by using the standardized measurement tools—the Measurement and Treatment Research to Improve Cognition in Schizophrenia (MATRICS) Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) Chinese version. Comparisons were made on the cognitive function and the genotype and allele distribution of SNP rs2114724 and rs2228611 between schizophrenia group and the control group. The relationship between DNMT1 gene polymorphism and cognitive function was analyzed. Results There was no significant difference of the genotype T/T, T/C, C/C and allele T, C distribution of SNP rs2114724 between schizophrenia group and healthy controls group (P>0.05). There was no significant difference of the genotype G/G, G/A, A/A and allele G, A distribution of SNP rs2228611 between schizophrenia group and healthy control group (P>0.05). There was significant difference in Spatial Span Test (SST) scores(P<0.05)among three different genotype T/T,T/C and C/C of rs2114724 in schizophrenic group. The SST scores of the patients with C/C genotype were higher than that of the patients with T/T or T/C genotype (P<0.05). Conclusion DNMT1 gene polymorphisms is not associated with the first-episode, drug-na?ve schizophrenia, but may be associated with the work memory in cognitive function of schizophrenia in the Chinese Han population.
