Objective:
This study aimed to explore the correlation between balance function and core muscle activation in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), compared to healthy individuals.
Methods:
A total of 24 AIS patients and 25 healthy controls were recruited. The limits of stability (LOS) test were conducted to assess balance function, while surface electromyography was used to measure the activity of core muscles, including the internal oblique, external oblique, and multifidus. Diaphragm thickness was measured using ultrasound during different postural tasks. Center of pressure (COP) displacement and trunk inclination distance were also recorded during the LOS test.
Results:
AIS patients showed significantly greater activation of superficial core muscles, such as the internal and external oblique muscles, compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Diaphragm activation was lower in AIS patients during balance tasks (p < 0.01). Although no significant difference was observed in COP displacement between the groups, trunk inclination was significantly greater in the AIS group during certain tasks (p < 0.05).
Conclusion
These findings suggest distinct postural control patterns in AIS patients, highlighting the importance of targeted interventions to improve balance and core muscle function in this population.

Objective:
To investigate the correlation between sleep fragmentation and body composition/blood pressure in female students of middle school, so as to provide theoretical guidance for preventing health risks associated with sleep fragmentation.
Methods:
From September 2022 to December 2023, 505 female students aged 12-15 years in Nanyang City were selected through stratified cluster random sampling and conducted Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) survey. Participants were divided into Q 1- Q 4 groups based on sleep fragmentation index (SFI) quartiles. Body composition and blood pressure measurements were measured by adopting body composition analyzer and traditional mercury sphygmomanometer, and data were analyzed using χ 2 tests and linear regression.
Results:
Significant intergroup differences for Q 1- Q 4 were observed with increasing SFI levels for body mass index(BMI), fat percentage, muscle mass, bone mass, trunk fat percentage, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and PSQI total scores ( F =15.25,7.33,8.38,5.97,11.24,16.85,6.87,15.73, all P <0.05). SFI showed positive correlations with BMI, fat percentage, trunk fat percentage, and blood pressure( β =0.37,0.45,0.34,0.42,0.38), but negative correlations with muscle mass and bone mass( β =-0.35,-0.48) (all P <0.05). The χ 2 trend test revealed a significant increase in hypertension detection rates with elevated SFI ( χ 2=42.75, P <0.05). The χ 2 testing demonstrated statistically significant differences in hypertension incidence among different quartiles groups ( χ 2=14.16, P <0.05). After adjusting the significance level, hypertension incidence differences remained significant between Q 1and Q 4 ( χ 2=10.77), Q 2 and Q 4 groups ( χ 2=6.28) (both P <0.008 3).
Conclusions
Sleep fragmentation correlates significantly with body composition and blood pressure indicators in female students of middle school. Implementing sleep fragmentation interventions is essential for safeguarding female students health in middle school.

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of a new three-phase Chinese medicine(CM)external treatment for acute lateral ankle ligament injuries. Methods From July to December 2023,64 patients with acute lateral ankle ligament in-juries were randomly assigned to receive either the new three-phase CM external treatment combined with the POLICE(pro-tect,optimal loading, ice, compression, elevation)treatment(observation group)or the POLICE treatment(control group),with 32 cases in each group. The observation group consisted of 17 males and 15 females, with an average age of(30.59±3.10)years old ranging from 25 to 36 years old, while the control group included 14 males and 18 females, with an average age of(30.03±3.19)years old ranging from 24 to 37 years old.Visual analogue scale(VAS)evaluation and Figure of 8 measurement were used to evaluate the degree of ankle joint pain and swelling of the subjects at the initial enrollment and after 1 week and sixth weeks of treatment. At the same time, the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS)and Karlsson Ankle Function Score System were used to evaluate the improvement of ankle joint function in patients at all stages.MRI imaging was employed to observe the degree of biological healing of the anterior talofibular ligament, with the signal to noise ratio(SNR)in-dicating the level of healing.A lower SNR suggests better ligament healing,as it represents lower water content in the ligament. Results All patients completed a 6-week follow-up.There was no significant difference in VAS,AOFAS score and Karlsson score between the two groups before treatment(P>0.05).After 1 week and 6 weeks of treatment, the VAS,AOFAS score and Karlsson score of the two groups were significantly improved(P<0.05).After 1 week of treatment, the VAS score of the obser-vation group(3.21±0.87)was lower than that of the control group(4.21±1.50),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After 1 weeks of treatment, the AOFAS and Karlsson scores[(50.84±4.70)points,(49.97±4.00)points]of the ob-servation group were higher than those[(46.91±5.56)points,(46.66±5.36)points]of the control group(P<0.05).MRI images showed that after 6 weeks of treatment, the SNR value of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(SNR of the observation group was 75.25±16.59,the contral gruop was 85.81±15.55),(P<0.05).Conclusion Compared with the control group, the new three-phase CM external treatment is signifi-cantly effective in reducing pain and swelling, enhancing ligament repair quality, and promoting functional recovery of the an-kle joint in patients with acute lateral malleolar ligament injuries.

Objective To monitor the susceptibility of clinical isolates to antimicrobial agents in tertiary hospitals in major regions of China in 2022.Methods Clinical isolates from 58 hospitals in China were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility using a unified protocol based on disc diffusion method or automated testing systems. Results were interpreted using the 2022 Clinical &Laboratory Standards Institute(CLSI)breakpoints. Results A total of 318 013 clinical isolates were collected from January 1,2022 to December 31,2022,of which 29.5%were gram-positive and 70.5%were gram-negative.The prevalence of methicillin-resistant strains in Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis and other coagulase-negative Staphylococcus species(excluding Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and Staphylococcus schleiferi)was 28.3%,76.7%and 77.9%,respectively.Overall,94.0%of MRSA strains were susceptible to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and 90.8%of MRSE strains were susceptible to rifampicin. No vancomycin-resistant strains were found.Enterococcus faecalis showed significantly lower resistance rates to most antimicrobial agents tested than Enterococcus faecium.A few vancomycin-resistant strains were identified in both E.faecalis and E.faecium.The prevalence of penicillin-susceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae was 94.2%in the isolates from children and 95.7%in the isolates from adults. The resistance rate to carbapenems was lower than 13.1%in most Enterobacterales species except for Klebsiella,21.7%-23.1%of which were resistant to carbapenems. Most Enterobacterales isolates were highly susceptible to tigecycline, colistin and polymyxin B,with resistance rates ranging from 0.1%to 13.3%.The prevalence of meropenem-resistant strains decreased from 23.5%in 2019 to 18.0%in 2022 in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and decreased from 79.0%in 2019 to 72.5%in 2022 in Acinetobacter baumannii. Conclusions The resistance of clinical isolates to the commonly used antimicrobial agents is still increasing in tertiary hospitals. However, the prevalence of important carbapenem-resistant organisms such as carbapenem-resistant K.pneumoniae,P.aeruginosa,and A.baumannii showed a downward trend in recent years. This finding suggests that the strategy of combining antimicrobial resistance surveillance with multidisciplinary concerted action works well in curbing the spread of resistant bacteria.
