Due to their unique physicochemical properties, nanomaterials can optimize drug delivery and reshape the tumor microenvironment. Manganese-based nanomaterials are primarily used in tumor immunotherapy for the following purpose, including targeted activating of the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-stimulator of interferon gene pathway to enhance immunogenicity, utilizating of manganese′s redox properties to regulate the tumor microenvironment, and developing of manganese-based magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents to monitor immune responses in real time. In this review, synthesis methods of manganese-based nanomaterials such as thermal decomposition method, hydrothermal/solvothermal synthesis method, and chemical precipitation/mixing method as well as an in-depth analysis of their applications in tumor immunotherapy including immune regulation, regulation of tumor microenvironment and enhanced magnetic resonance imaging were reviewed.

Objective To explore the value of support vector machine(SVM)model based on gray matter volume(GMV)for identifying amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS),also to analyze the relevant brain regions. Methods MR 3D T1WI data of 60 ALS patients(ALS group)and 60 healthy volunteers(control group)were retrospectively analyzed.Taken GMV of each brain region obtained by voxel-based morphometry as the input features.F-score analysis was used to select feature with the highest classification accuracy to construct SVM model.Receiver operating characteristic curve was drawn to evaluate the efficacy of SVM model for identifying ALS,and top 10%was used as the weight threshold to obtain gray matter brain regions contributed the most to this model. Results SVM model constructed based on the top 40%GMV features had the highest classification accuracy(82.50%),with sensitivity, specificity and area under the curve(AUG)of 85.05%,80.40%and 0.890,respectively.The left precentral gyrus, left anterior cingulate gyrus and paracingulate gyrus, right middle temporal gyrus, opercular part of left inferior frontal gyrus, right dorsolateral superior frontal gyrus, left temporal pole:middle temporal gyrus, right superior occipital gyrus, orbital part of right middle frontal gyrus, right calcarine fissure and surrounding cortex, right fusiform gyrus were the top 1-10 gray matter brain regions contributed to this model. Conclusion ALS had specific GMV change pattern.SVM model based on GMV could be used to effectively identify ALS,while the left precentral gyrus was the most contributive brain region to this model.

Objective To observe the efficacy of percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)combined with microwave ablation(MWA)for treating vertebral compression fractures(VCF)caused by metastatic cancer. Methods Totally 112 patients with VCF caused by metastatic cancer were retrospectively enrolled, including 77 cases(105 vertebrae)underwent MWA+PVP(group A)and 35 cases(68 vertebrae)who underwent PVP alone(group B).The success rates of the treatments were recorded, and complications were observed.Visual analogue scale(VAS)score of pain, daily morphine consumption(DMC)and Oswestry disability index(ODI)of patients were compared within and between groups after treatments, and local tumor recurrence rates after treatment were observed. Results The success rates of MWA and PVP were both 100%.After treatments, bone cement leakage occurred in 12 cases(12/77,15.58%)in group A and 19 cases(19/35,54.29%)in group B,in group A was lower than in group B(P<0.001).No other complications occurred. One week and 1,3 and 6 months after treatments,VAS scores of pain,DMC and ODI in group A and B were all lower than those before treatments(all P<0.001).Three and 6 months after treatments,VAS scores of pain in group A were lower than those in group B(both P<0.01),while 6 months after treatments,DMC and ODI in group A were lower than those in group B(both P<0.01).No significant difference of VAS scores of pain,DMC nor ODI was found between groups at the other time points(all P>0.05).Six months after treatments, local tumor recurrence rate in lesions in group A(17.14%,18/105)was significantly lower than that in group B(32.35%,22/68)(P=0.020).Conclusion For treating VCF caused by metastatic cancer,PVP combined with MWA could reduce incidence of complications, prolong pain relief time and bring better short-term local tumor control effect.

The preferred treatment for adrenal functional tumors is laparoscopic surgical resection. However, in recent years, various ablation techniques have gradually been applied in the treatment of adrenal tumors. This report presents the successful diagnosis and treatment experience of 4 aldosterone-producing adenomas and 1 cortisol-secreting adenoma treated with a combined cold and hot ablation system at Xi’an Daxing Hospital from Dec. 2023 to Dec. 2024, providing a new treatment approach for clinical exploration.
