Neutrophilic dermatosis of the hands (NDH) is an uncommon inflammatory condition recognized as a localized variant of Sweet syndrome, seen in older adults with malignancy or systemic inflammatory disease. We present a rare case of NDH in a 23-year-old male in an unusual location, without the typical associated systemic illness or recent trauma. The patient presented with recurrent, painful erythematous nodules exclusively on the fingers and a violaceous bulla-like plaque on the volar surface of the left index finger. Laboratory tests showed leukocytosis with neutrophilia, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and normal C-reactive protein levels. Investigations for other underlying causes were unremarkable. Histopathologic examination was consistent with NDH. He was treated with dapsone 50 mg daily, with resolution in 3 weeks, and no recurrence was reported. This case expands the clinical spectrum of NDH. It highlights the importance of considering it in the differential diagnosis of painful hand lesions in younger patients, even in the absence of typical risk factors or systemic involvement.

Nail disorders can arise at any age and are mostly infectious in origin. Other causes include inflammatory, metabolic, malignancies and pigment disturbances. Due to the similarities in presentation, uncertainty is unavoidable. Thus, more accurate diagnostics and targeted treatment plans are needed to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients and to avoid drug resistance. This case describes a a 69-year-old diabetic female who presented with a 10-year history of subungual, lateral and proximal nail fold hyperkeratosis, onycholysis, splinter hemorrhages and yellow-brown nail discoloration of the fingernails and toenails. Histopathologically, the nail matrix of the left middle finger revealed verruca vulgaris.

Lymphomatoid Papulosis (LyP) is a rare skin disorder characterized by chronic, recurrent papules and nodules that heal spontaneously. This report discusses an 8-year-old Filipino female with a three-month history of erythematous pruritic papules evolving into plaques. A skin biopsy confirmed CD30-negative LyP, and treatment with Methotrexate resulted in significant improvement of the lesions. This case illustrates the complex diagnostic and therapeutic journey of LyP in children, emphasizing the importance of careful clinicopathologic correlation and the challenges of management due to the lack of curative therapy and the risk of malignant transformation.

Pilomatricoma, a benign tumor arising from hair follicle matrix cells, commonly appears as a slow-growing, firm, nontender nodule on the head and neck region. This report describes an atypical variant of pilomatricoma in a 12-year old Filipino female who presented with a 4-week history of a solitary rapidly-enlarging nodule morphologically resembling a proliferating keratoacanthoma on the right arm. Histopathologic diagnosis of pilomatricoma with suppurative and granulomatous inflammation was made and wide local surgical excision was done. This article highlights the importance of including pilomatricoma in the differential diagnosis of pediatric patients presenting with a firm, solitary, rapidly-growing nodule on sites other than the head and neck region.

BACKGROUND

Visible pigmentation abnormalities on the face or body are often perceived as unusual by many, leading to psychological distress for those affected. Cosmetic camouflage may be offered to give immediate satisfaction to patients.

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the effect of cosmetic camouflage in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with facial dyspigmentation using the Dermatologic Quality of Life Index (DLQI).

METHODS

A quasi-experimental study was conducted among adult patients with facial dyspigmentation. Participants applied a cosmetic camouflage product once daily for four weeks. DLQI scores were recorded before and after the intervention. A non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test was then used to compare the paired DLQI scores.

RESULTS

Cosmetic camouflage positively impacts the HRQoL, as evidenced by a significant reduction in DLQI scores. Cosmetic camouflage appears to be an effective adjunctive option for managing the psychological effects of facial dyspigmentation. Further research with larger samples and extended follow-up is recommended to confirm these findings and assess the long-term benefits.
