Objective: To explain process of developing basic veterinary clinical performance guidelines, based on frequently observable clinical manifestations, thereby supporting competencybased veterinary education in Korea. Methods: A structured review of learning outcomes established by Korean Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (KAVMC) was conducted by a planning committee including veterinary educators, practitioners, and advisory members. Owner-oriented descriptions were used to frame each performance task, and each was mapped to corresponding learning outcomes. These tasks were aligned with learning outcomes recommended by the KAVMC to support the development of communication, clinical reasoning, and performance-related competencies among veterinary students, thereby enhancing day-one clinical readiness. Results: In total, 63 clinical manifestations for a guidebook format that can be used for clinical education were identified and categorized by organ systems that are described in language understandable to animal owners. Conclusions and Relevance: The basic veterinary clinical performance guidelines based on common clinical manifestations would serve as a vital component in veterinary education to reinforce core graduation competencies.

Background: African swine fever (ASF) is a hemorrhagic fever occurring in wild boars (Sus scrofa) and domestic pigs. The epidemic situation of ASF in South Korean wild boars has increased the risk of ASF in domestic pig farms. Although basic reproduction number (R0) can be applied for control policies, it is challenging to estimate the R0 for ASF in wild boars due to surveillance bias, lack of wild boar population data, and the effect of ASF-positive wild boar carcass on disease dynamics. Objectives: This study was undertaken to estimate the R0 of ASF in wild boars in South Korea, and subsequently analyze the spatiotemporal heterogeneity. Methods: We detected the local transmission clusters using the spatiotemporal clustering algorithm, which was modified to incorporate the effect of ASF-positive wild boar carcass. With the assumption of exponential growth, R0 was estimated for each cluster. The temporal change of the estimates and its association with the habitat suitability of wild boar were analyzed. Results: Totally, 22 local transmission clusters were detected, showing seasonal patterns occurring in winter and spring. Mean value of R0 of each cluster was 1.54. The estimates showed a temporal increasing trend and positive association with habitat suitability of wild boar. Conclusions The disease dynamics among wild boars seems to have worsened over time. Thus, in areas with a high elevation and suitable for wild boars, practical methods need to be contrived to ratify the control policies for wild boars.

The purpose of this study is to review the clinical and pathological features of pseudomembranous colitis in Korea. Ten cases of psedomembranous colitis, which were diagnosed by sigmoidoscopy and biopsy at the Seoul National University Hospital from May 1982 to occtober 1985, were analyzed in terms of the age and sex distribution, underlying diseases, presumptive causative antimicrobials, symptomatology, involved site and tratment. 1) The disease was more prevalent above sixth decade with a slight preponderance on the female. 2) The underlying diseases of the patients were the uterine cervix cancer in 3 cases and one case each of the nasal polyp, cataract, degenerative arthritis, tuberculous gradmuloma, SLE with menngitis, CVA and gingival abscess. 3) As for the presumptive causative drugs, cephalosporin were assaciated in 6 cases, aminoglycoside m 7 cases, penlcillin in 3 cases, Bactrim in 3 cases, antituberculosis drugs in 1 case and anticancer drugs in 1 case. 4) As for the anatotmical distribution of the lesion, the rectum was involved in 5 cases, the rectum and sigmoid colon in 4 cases and up to the descending colon in 1 case. 5) All the cases were cured by medical treatment. In 5 cases, discontinuation of the antimicrobial drugs and supportive care only were effective and in other 5 cases, vancamycin and/or metronidazole together vrith cholestyramine were added to the regimen.
