Electromagnetic fields can regulate the fundamental biological processes involved in bone remodeling. As a non-invasive physical therapy, electromagnetic fields with specific parameters have demonstrated therapeutic effects on bone remodeling diseases, such as fractures and osteoporosis. Electromagnetic fields can be generated by the movement of charged particles or induced by varying currents. Based on whether the strength and direction of the electric field change over time, electromagnetic fields can be classified into static and time-varying fields. The treatment of bone remodeling diseases with static magnetic fields primarily focuses on fractures, often using magnetic splints to immobilize the fracture site while studying the effects of static magnetic fields on bone healing. However, there has been relatively little research on the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis using static magnetic fields. Pulsed electromagnetic fields, a type of time-varying field, have been widely used in clinical studies for treating fractures, osteoporosis, and non-union. However, current clinical applications are limited to low-frequency, and research on the relationship between frequency and biological effects remains insufficient. We believe that different types of electromagnetic fields acting on bone can induce various “secondary physical quantities”, such as magnetism, force, electricity, acoustics, and thermal energy, which can stimulate bone cells either individually or simultaneously. Bone cells possess specific electromagnetic properties, and in a static magnetic field, the presence of a magnetic field gradient can exert a certain magnetism on the bone tissue, leading to observable effects. In a time-varying magnetic field, the charged particles within the bone experience varying Lorentz forces, causing vibrations and generating acoustic effects. Additionally, as the frequency of the time-varying field increases, induced currents or potentials can be generated within the bone, leading to electrical effects. When the frequency and power exceed a certain threshold, electromagnetic energy can be converted into thermal energy, producing thermal effects. In summary, external electromagnetic fields with different characteristics can generate multiple physical quantities within biological tissues, such as magnetic, electric, mechanical, acoustic, and thermal effects. These physical quantities may also interact and couple with each other, stimulating the biological tissues in a combined or composite manner, thereby producing biological effects. This understanding is key to elucidating the electromagnetic mechanisms of how electromagnetic fields influence biological tissues. In the study of electromagnetic fields for bone remodeling diseases, attention should be paid to the biological effects of bone remodeling under different electromagnetic wave characteristics. This includes exploring innovative electromagnetic source technologies applicable to bone remodeling, identifying safe and effective electromagnetic field parameters, and combining basic research with technological invention to develop scientifically grounded, advanced key technologies for innovative electromagnetic treatment devices targeting bone remodeling diseases. In conclusion, electromagnetic fields and multiple physical factors have the potential to prevent and treat bone remodeling diseases, and have significant application prospects.

The analysis presented here is based on the blood components of Guanxin Qiwei tablets, the key anti-atherosclerosis pathway of Guanxin Qiwei tablets was screened by network pharmacology, and the anti-atherosclerosis mechanism of Guanxin Qiwei tablets was clarified and verified by cell experiments. HPLC-Q-Exactive-MS/MS technique was used to analyze the components of Guanxin Qiwei tablets into blood, to determine the precise mass charge ratio of the compounds, and to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the components by using secondary mass spectrometry fragments and literature comparison. Finally, a total of 42 components of Guanxin Qiwei tablets into blood were identified. To better understand the interactions, we employed the Swiss Target Prediction database to predict the associated targets. Atherosclerosis (AS) disease targets were searched in disease databases Genecard, OMIM and Disgent, and 181 intersection targets of disease targets and component targets were obtained by Venny 2.1.0 software. Protein interactions were analyzed by String database. The 32 core targets were selected by Cytscape software. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed in DAVID database. It was found that the anti-atherosclerosis pathways of Guanxin Qiwei tablets mainly include lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis and AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications and other signal pathways. The core targets and the core compounds were interlinked, and it was found that cryptotanshinone and tanshinone ⅡA in Guanxin Qiwei tablets were well bound to TNF, PPAR

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) technology originated in China during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and has rapidly developed over the past two decades, becoming a primary method for studying the causal relationship between gut microbiota and the occurrence and progression of diseases. At the same time, the therapeutic effects of FMT in the field of gastrointestinal diseases have gained widespread recognition and are gradually expanding into other disease areas. The FMT procedure is relatively complex, and there is currently no standardized method; its success is influenced by various factors, including the donor, recipient, processing of the fecal material, and the method of implantation. Given the increasingly recognized relationship between gut microbiota and various diseases, FMT has become a research hotspot in both scientific studies and clinical applications, achieving a series of significant advancements. To help researchers better understand this technology, this paper will outline the development history of FMT, summarize common operational methods in research and clinical settings, review its application progress, and look forward to future development directions.

Inflammasome is a kind of intracellular polyprotein complex, which is an important component of the complex system of local inflammatory microenvironment after human tissue damage. When the inflammasome is activated,it induces the activation of cysteine aspartate proteinase 1(caspase-1),mediates the maturation and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin(IL)-1 β and IL-18,and induces cell death, which plays an important role in regulating the host immune response to pathogen infection and tissue repair of cell damage.Nod-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)inflammatory body, which is composed of NLRP3,pro-cysteine aspartic acid specific protease-1(pro-caspase-1)and apoptosis-related spot-like protein(ASC),is the most deeply and widely studied type of inflammatory body, which plays an important role in the regulation of inflammation. When NLRP3 inflammatory bodies are activated, inflammatory mediators are produced and released, which participate in the occurrence and development of a variety of inflammatory diseases. Some studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine can improve the pathological state of a variety of diseases by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammatory bodies, and play a role in the prevention and treatment of a variety of inflammatory diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, joint inflammation, diabetes and so on.This paper systematically combs the mechanism of NLRP3 inflammatory bodies, and summarizes the latest research reports on the effects of traditional Chinese medicine compound prescription, traditional Chinese medicine monomers and traditional Chinese medicine extracts on NLRP3 inflammatory bodies in the treatment of inflammatory diseases,in order to provide new ideas for the further study of the pathogenesis and drug treatment of many inflammatory diseases.

BACKGROUND:There are many treatment methods for knee osteoarthritis, among which electroacupuncture,as an important non-drug treatment,is effective in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, but its exact mechanism is not clear. OBJECTIVE:Effect of electroacupuncture on the expression of p53 and P21 in articular cartilage and subchondral bone of aged rats with knee osteoarthritis. METHODS:Eight 6-month-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were included in the young group and sixteen 24-month-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into old group(n=8)and electroacupuncture group(n=8).The rats in the electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture stimulation once a day,5 days a week, for 8 continuous weeks, and the other two groups did not do any treatment.Eight weeks later, the level of type Ⅱ collagen C-terminal peptide in peripheral blood was detected by ELISA,the morphology of left knee cartilage and subchondral bone was observed by safranin O-fast green staining, the degree of knee cartilage degeneration was evaluated by modified Mankin's score, the microstructure of left knee cartilage and subchondral bone was detected by micro-CT,and the expression levels of matrix metalloproteinase 13,P53,P21 Mrna and protein were detected by RT-PCR and western blot respectively. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the young group, the level of C-terminal peptide of type Ⅱ collagen in the peripheral blood was increased in the old group(P<0.05).The micro-CT results showed that the bone volume fraction, bone mineral density and the number of bone trabeculae were decreased in the old group compared with the young group(P<0.05),while the trabecular separation increased(P<0.05).Safranin O-fast green staining showed that in the old group, the surface layer of cartilage was uneven with fissures, the morphology of chondrocytes was irregular and stained unevenly, the boundary between the cartilage and subchondral bone was blurred, and the matrix loss was serious. The Mankin's score was higher in the old group than the young group(P<0.05).The expression of matrix metalloproteinase 13,P53,P21 at Mrna and protein levels increased in the old group compared with the young group(P<0.05).Compared with the old group, electroacupuncture decreased the level of C-terminal peptide of type Ⅱ collagen(P<0.05),increased the bone volume fraction, bone mineral density and the number of bone trabeculae(P<0.05),and decreased the trabecular separation(P<0.05).Safranin O-fast green staining showed that in the electroacupuncture group, the surface of cartilage was smooth and red staining was uniform, and the cell morphology and structure were between the young group and the old group.Following electroacupuncture treatment, the Mankin's score(P<0.05),matrix metalloproteinase 13 and P21 Mrna expression(P<0.05),and matrix metalloproteinase 13 and P53 protein expression decreased(P<0.05),while there was a decreasing trend of P53 Mrna and P21 protein expression, but with no statistical significance(P>0.05).To conclude, electroacupuncture may delay articular cartilage degeneration and subchondral osteoporosis in aged rats by inhibiting the expression of P53 and P21,so as to protect joints and delay joint aging.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2024;65(23):2399-2403
This article summarized Professor PENG Qinghua's experience in treatment of dry eyes with principles of "moistening with acrid medicinals". It is believed that the root cause of dry eyes with "yin fluids deficiency" phenomenon is that yang qi deficiency, deficient cold generating, and yin fluids stagnation; yang qi blocking inside, yin fluids fail to move; yin exhaustion and fluid consumption, deficient yang rising. In clinic, "moistening with acrid medicinals" could be the basic therapeutic methods. For patients with yang-deficiency and fluids-stagnation syndrome, acrid and warm medicinals could be used for warming yang and dispersing cold, moving fluids, and transforming yin stagnation, commonly choosing Fuizi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Ganjiang (Zingiber officinale Rosc), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) and so on. If there is spleen yang deficiency, modified Fuzi Lizhong Pill (附子理中丸) could be used, if lung yang deficiency, modified Xiaoqinglong Decoction (小青龙汤) could be used, and if kidney yang deficiency, modified Jinkui Shenqi Pill (金匮肾气丸) could be used. For patients with yang-stagnation and fluids-retention syndrome, acrid and warm and opening medicinals could be used for expelling yang and resolving constraint, unblocking stagnation and moving fluids, to spread yang qi and free yin fluids, commonly choosing Mahuang (Ephedra sinica Stapf), Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and so on. If there is yang stagnation in exterior parts, modified Mahuang Guizhi-Like Formulas (麻桂类方) were commonly used, and for yang stagnation inside the body, modified Sini Powder (四逆散) were commonly used. For patients with yin-deficiency and fluids-exhaustion syndrome, on the basis of tonifying yin and generating fluids medicinals like Xiyangshen (Panax quinquefolius L.), Nanshashen (Adenophorae Radix), Beishashen (Glehniae Radix), Yuzhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma) or Zengye Decoction (增液汤), combined with the method of moistening with acrid medicinals, so yin and yang transforming with each other without dryness, and the common medicinals include Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Roucongrong (Cistanches Herba), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) and so on.

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death caused by phospholipid peroxidation damage of polyunsaturated fatty acids on cell membranes and involves several pathways, including the iron homeostasis regulatory pathway, the cystine glutamate reverse transporter (system Xc) pathway and the voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) pathway. Ferroptosis is involved in the development of several diseases (e. g. myocardial infarction, stroke, cancer and degenerative diseases). The ubiquitination is an important post-translational modification of various protein molecules in the organism. Studies have shown that regulating the ubiquitination of ferroptosis pathway-related molecules can control cellular ferroptosis. Targeting the ubiquitination of ferroptosis pathway-related molecules can effectively promote or inhibit ferroptosis, which is expected to be a new strategy for the treatment of cancer or cardiovascular diseases. In this paper we review the progress of the ferroptosis pathways and the ubiquitination modification of ferroptosis-related molecules.

The abuse and irrational use of antibiotics in human veterinary medicine has seriously endangered the ecological environment and human health. In this study,a fully automatic solid-phase disk extraction-stable isotope dilution-ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method for determination of 17 kinds of sulfonamides antibiotics(SAs)in water was established, which was then applied to determination of SAs in real samples including tap water, river water and seawater, respectively.Meanwhile, the residual characteristics were discussed and the ecological risks were assessed. With this method,1.0 L water sample with 0.5 g/L Na2EDTA(pH=3)was extracted and enriched by 3M SDB-XC disk, and eluted by 10 mL of mixture of methanol and acetone(1:1,V/V),and the pretreatment time of the sample was about 60 min per six samples.Under the optimized conditions, the linearity of the method for detection of 17 kinds of SAs ranged from 0.05 to 100 μg/L,with correlation coefficients(R2)>0.999.In addition, the detection limits(S/N=3)were as low as 0.012-0.052 ng/L,and the recoveries were in the range of 76%-110%,with relative standard deviations of 0.5%-9.6%(n=5).The results showed that no SAs was detected in tap water, while 3 and 9 kinds of SAs were detected in river water of Zhoushan, and seawater of Wenzhou Sea area in Zhejiang province, respectively. The total concentrations of the detected SAs were 0.875-21.826 ng/L and 1.024-20.768 ng/L in river water and seawater, respectively, and among which, sulfamethoxazole(SMX)was the predominant compound in river water and seawater, accounting for 81%and 74%of the total SAs,respectively. The ecological risk assessment showed that the risk quotients of the detected SAs in the river water and seawater in the study area for the three kinds of trophic organisms(algae,Daphnia and fish)were far less than 0.01,meaning that the ecological risk was low.
