The incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer have been continuously rising. Smoking is a crucial modifiable factor contributing to the high incidence of lung cancer, and quitting smoking is of great significance for the treatment and prognosis of lung cancer patients. This article systematically reviews the harms of smoking to lung cancer patients, such as carcinogenic substances triggering lung cancer, affecting the course of the disease, and the improvement of prognosis after quitting smoking. It also analyzes the current situation of smoking cessation among lung cancer patients, who face numerous difficulties and have a relatively small number of successful quitters. Meanwhile, this article provides a detailed introduction to the clinical diagnosis and treatment methods for smoking cessation interventions. This includes the explanation of the pathophysiology of smoking cessation, psychological supportive therapies [brief psychological intervention and 5A’s model (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange) psychological counseling], and pharmacotherapies (nicotine-based and non-nicotine-based smoking cessation medications). In addition, it covers the behavioral intervention therapies for smoking cessation, including the PRECEDE-PROCEED model, cognitive behavior theory model, capacity opportunity motivation-behavior (COM-B) theoretical model, information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model, timing is right (TIR) theoretical model, and the economic incentive intervention model. Although some of the current intervention methods lack the support of clinical randomized controlled studies, existing research and practice have confirmed their positive effects on smoking cessation among lung cancer patients. It is hoped that relevant intervention methods can be further improved in the future to help lung cancer patients improve their quality of life.

Metabolites produced as intermediaries or end-products of microbial metabolism provide crucial signals for health and diseases, such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). These metabolites include products of the bacterial metabolism of dietary substrates, modification of host molecules (such as bile acids [BAs], trimethylamine-N-oxide, and short-chain fatty acids), or products directly derived from bacteria. Recent studies have provided new insights into the association between MASLD and the risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD). Furthermore, alterations in microbiota composition and metabolite profiles, notably altered BAs, have been described in studies investigating the association between MASLD and the risk of CKD. This narrative review discusses alterations of specific classes of metabolites, BAs, fructose, vitamin D, and microbiota composition that may be implicated in the link between MASLD and CKD.

Background::The increasing incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) presents significant medical and societal challenges. A well-designed IBD database is crucial for both epidemiological studies and clinical management. However, inconsistencies between regional databases hinder cross-institutional and international research, especially between Eastern and Western societies.Methods::We developed a new IBD database, the 301 IBD database, integrating the IBD clinical characteristics from the Penn IBD database (USA) and the latest IBD guidelines and consensus and clinical practices of the Chinese PLA General Hospital (PLAGH). We applied this database to analyze clinical data of IBD inpatients at PLAGH from 2008 to 2023.Results::The 301 IBD database contains 490 items in 6 sections including demographic characteristics, personal history, clinical phenotype, disease activity, laboratory tests and examinations, and treatment. Features of the 301 IBD database include inpatient focus, biochemical indicators and opportunistic infection focus, and more about ulcerative colitis (UC)-associated complications. Single-center analysis revealed an increasing hospitalization trend, from 2.35% in 2008 to 3.94% in 2023. We found that the clinical characteristics of our UC inpatients are predominantly male (62.5%), extensive lesions (55.1%), low usage of biologics (4.1%), and a high incidence of UC-CRC (3.0%). The clinical characteristics of CD inpatients included male predominance (68.39%), early onset age (35.43 ± 14.75-year-old), and high rate of surgery (25.81%).Conclusion::The 301 IBD database, integrating Eastern and Western clinical data, provides a valuable tool for IBD clinical research. Future international, multicenter collaborations are expected to further enhance its utility.

Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2025;32(1):7-13
Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effects of dapagliflozin on renal fibrosis in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy (T2DN) and the underlying mechanisms involved. Methods:A randomized controlled study was conducted involving 152 patients with T2DN who received treatment at The First People's Hospital of Huzhou from April 2021 to May 2023. The patients were divided into an observation group and a control group, with 76 participants in each group, using a random number table method. The control group received conventional hypoglycemic therapy, while the observation group received dapagliflozin in addition to the conventional hypoglycemic therapy. Both groups were treated for 3 months. Before and after treatment, glycated hemoglobin, blood glucose, renal function indicators, and renal fibrosis markers (hyaluronic acid, type Ⅳ collagen, type Ⅲ procollagen, and laminin) were measured. Additionally, the levels of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β 1), phosphorylated p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway components [phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase (p-ERK),phosphorylated p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p-P38), phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal Kinase (p-JNK)], and inflammatory factors (interleukin-6, interleukin-1 beta, and cyclooxygenase-2) in the patients' peripheral blood were measured. Transcriptome sequencing was performed to construct libraries and sequence the total RNA from kidney biopsy samples of the patients. Results:After treatment, the levels of hyaluronic acid, laminin, type Ⅳ collagen, and type Ⅲ procollagen in the observation group were (167.42 ± 17.91) μg/L, (106.10 ± 14.57) μg/L, (95.98 ± 10.03) μg/L, and (89.38 ± 9.75) μg/L, respectively. These values were significantly lower than those in the control group [(243.17 ± 24.38) μg/L, (147.43 ± 17.09) μg/L, (147.71 ± 14.59) μg/L, and (121.81 ± 14.88) μg/L, t = 21.83, 16.04, 25.47, 15.89, all P < 0.001]. The levels of interleukin-6, interleukin-1 beta, cyclooxygenase-2, TGF-β 1, and p-ERK, p-P38, and p-JNK in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( t = 9.45, 3.49, 11.30, 6.11, 4.26, 4.21, 2.04, all P < 0.05). Transcriptome sequencing enrichment analysis identified "fibronectin," "inflammatory response," and "TGF-β 1/P38 MAPK signaling pathway" as the differentially expressed signaling pathways. In kidney biopsy samples, the protein levels of TGF-β 1, p-ERK, and p-P38 in the observation group were (0.38 ± 0.15), (0.17 ± 0.10), and (0.58 ± 0.18), respectively, all of which were significantly lower than those in the control group [(0.16 ± 0.10), (0.07 ± 0.02), (0.19 ± 0.11), t = 2.99, 2.40, 4.53, all P < 0.05]. The overall response rate in the observation group was 93.43% (71/76), which was significantly higher than that in the control group [81.58% (62/76), χ2 = 7.02, P = 0.030]. Conclusions:Dapagliflozin has a beneficial therapeutic effect on renal fibrosis in patients with T2DN, as it can inhibit the expression of the TGF-β 1/p38 MAPK signaling pathway and reduce inflammation.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2025;29(21):4469-4476
BACKGROUND:Foot position and seat height are important factors affecting "Sit-to-Stand",but most of the current research on "Sit-to-Stand" focuses on healthy people and Parkinson's disease patients. The kinematic and kinetic characteristics of the lower limbs of children with spastic cerebral palsy during the "Sit-to-Stand" task under different foot positions and seat heights are not known.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of different foot positions and different seat height on lower limb kinematic and kinetic parameters during the "Sit-to-Stand" task in children with cerebral palsy. METHODS:Seven children with spastic cerebral palsy were selected as the research subjects. All subjects received the "Sit-to-Stand" test of six tasks, namely three seat heights (high, medium, and low stools) × two foot positions (front and back foot positions). The kinematic and dynamic data of children with cerebral palsy were collected under different foot positions and seat heights.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) The time characteristics results showed that the total time required for the children with cerebral palsy to perform the sit-to-stand transfer task was significantly smaller in the high stool condition compared to the low stool condition (P=0.046). (2) The kinetic results showed that at the moment of lifting, the knee flexion moment was significantly larger in the bipedal posterior condition than the bipedal anterior condition (P=0.049). The knee flexion moment was significantly smaller in the high stool condition compared to the medium stool condition (P<0.001). (3) It is concluded that raising the seat height and changing the foot position had an effect on the sit-to-stand transfer in children with spastic cerebral palsy. The children were able to perform the sit-to-stand maneuver with less motor compensation in the high-stool bipedal-rear position condition. Meanwhile, the high chair can be used as an aid to enhance the performance of sit-to-stand transfer in children with spastic cerebral palsy. The high stool bipedal hindfoot condition was the most effective in improving the sit-to-stand transfer in children with spastic cerebral palsy.
