The production of healthy agricultural products has increased the demand for innovative and sustainable plant protection technologies, and the rapid advancement of nanotechnology has brought revolutionary breakthroughs to traditional agriculture. Nanocarrier-based drug delivery systems can not only significantly improve the utilization efficiency of pesticides, achieving enhanced efficacy and reduced application, but also decrease the pesticide residues and environmental pollution. Additionally, they have made breakthrough progress in the stability and persistence of RNA pesticides. This review summarized the research progress on nanopesticides and RNA pesticides, focusing on the mechanisms of nanocarriers in improving pesticide bioactivity and RNA interference (RNAi) efficiency. It also systematically summarized the types of nanomaterials and their applications in pest and disease management and provided an in-depth outlook for the future development of nanopesticides and RNA pesticides, which provided technical support for the high-quality development of agriculture in the future.

Lung cancer is one of the most malignant tumor, representing a significant threat to human health. In China, its mortality rate is the highest among all malignant tumors. The occurrence of drug resistance has resulted in unfavourable prognosis for patients with lung cancer, and overcoming drug resistance is a significant challenge that needs to be addressed. Nano-drug delivery technology has been an important approach to overcome drug resistance in lung cancer. Targeting to the mechanisms of drug resistance, by enabling the combined delivery of drugs, increasing the efficiency of drug delivery and improving the targeting and safety of drugs, nano-drug delivery technology offers a novel approach to tackling drug resistance in lung cancer. This paper describes the current status of lung cancer treatment, mechanisms of drug resistance, strategies to overcome drug resistance, and the application of nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. In addition, it summarizes the recent research progress on the application of nano-drug delivery technology to overcome drug resistance in lung cancer. Finally, the current prospects and challenges of nano-drug delivery technology are discussed.

Nanobodies are derived from the variable domain of the heavy-chain antibodies (HCAbs) that occur naturally in the serum of camels. Using nanobody-based probes, several imaging techniques such as radionuclide-based, optical and ultrasound have been employed for visualization of target expression in various disease models. Combined with application and clinical data of nanobody in molecular imaging in recent years, this paper introduces its application in the diagnosis of diseases and the future development as a novel molecular imaging tool.

OBJECTIVEA novel method of Nano-Immunomagnetic Separation (Nano-IMS) plus Real-time PCR was established for detecting Vibrio cholerae.

METHODSThe Nano-Immunomagnetic Beads were created by using the monoclonal antibody of Vibrio cholerae, which was named Nano-IMB-Vc. Nano-IMB-Vc has specific adsorption of Vibrio cholerae, combined with Real-time PCR technology, a method for rapid detection of Vibrio cholerae was established. The capture specificity of Nano-IMB-Vc was tested by using 15 bacteria strains. The specificity of Real-time PCR method was tested by using 102 targets and 101 non-targets bacteria strains. The sensitivity of Nano-IMS plus Real-time PCR were tested in pure culture and in artificial samples and compared with NMKL No.156.

RESULTSThe capture ratio of Nano-IMB-Vc was reached 70.2% at the level of 10(3) CFU/ml. In pure culture, the sensitivity of Nano-IMS plus Real-time PCR was reached at 5.4×10(2) CFU/ml. The specific of Real-time PCR method was tested by using 102 targets and 101 non-targets bacteria. The results showed that 102 strains of Vibrio cholerae test results were all positive, and the rest of the 101 strains of non-target bacteria test results were negative. No cross-reaction was founded. Add 1 CFU vibrio cholerae per 25 g sample, it could be detect with Nano-IMS plus Real-time PCR method after 8 hours enrichment.

CONCLUSIONSThe Nano-IMS plus Real-time PCR method of Vibrio cholerae established in this study has good specificity and sensitivity, which could be applied to the rapid detection of Vibrio cholerae.

Microbe is extremely abundant in nature, and its size has a very wide coverage from nano- to micro-scale making it suitable to be processed at multi-scale level as natural "building blocks" and "chassis cells". Biofabrication based on microbes is an artificial manipulation on microbes to assemble functional materials and devices by using the specific structures and various biological functions of microbes. In the meantime, the novel strategies of biofarication enables us to study the behavioral details of microbes, which will provide new platforms for uncovering the unsolved basic scientific problems of microbes. In this paper, we reviewed the frontier and progress in biofabrication from nano- and micro-scale in microbes that were manipulated as structured "building blocks" or functional "micro/nano robots".

This article summarizes biological detection techniques based on magnetic signal of magnetic nanoparticles and the research progress of these techniques in biomedicine. Biological detection based on magnetic nanoparticles is faster, more accurate and more convenient compared to traditional optical techniques and causes much attention. It can be classified into giant magneto resistive biosensor (GMR), magnetic relaxation switch (based on T2 relaxation time), AC susceptibility (based on Brownian relaxation) and magnetic lateral flow immunoassay. These techniques can be combined with nanotechnology, microfluidics, immunoassay and bio-chips and have wide application prospects in clinical diagnosis, biological detection, environmental monitoring and food security areas.

The contamination of extrinsic harmful contaminants including mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides, etc, brings serious risks to traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), further to human health. Due to their unique photoluminescence, chemiluminescence, electrochemical and electrochemiluminescence properties, semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) nanoparticles are widely used to immobilize bioprobes and biosensors, etc. In this review, the luminescence characteristics and specific ligands of QDs probles which are used to determine contaminants were summed up. Then, the applications of QDs-coated novel probes in the determination of mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides were discussed in detail. In addition, the contamination levels and characteristics of extrinsic harmful residues in TCMs were investigated. Further, the maximum levels of those contaminants in TCMs were compared with those set by various countries. Finally, the future development trends and problems of QDs-coated probes in the determination of those extrinsic residues in TCMs were prospected.

The purpose of this study was to develop docetaxel-poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) loaded nanoparticles by using nanoprecipitation method and optimize the relative parameters to obtain nanoparticles with higher encapsulation efficiency and smaller size. The physicochemical characteristics of nanoparticles were studied. The optimized parameters were as follows: the oil phase was mixture of acetone and ethanol, concentration of tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS) was 0.2%, the ratio of oil phase to water phase was 1:5, and the theoretical drug concentration was 5%. The optimized nanoparticles were spherical with size between 130 and 150 nm. The encapsulation efficiency was (40.83±2.1)%. The in vitro release exhibited biphasic pattern. The results indicate that docetaxel-PLGA nanoparticles were successfully fabricated and may be used as the novel vehicles for docetaxel, which would replace Taxotere® and play great roles in future.

Current trends in nanotechnology and RNA interference technology have made the application of nanocarriers (NCS) as a novel gene and drug delivery systems very promising for the field of multidrug resistance (MDR) cancer treatment. Co-delivery of gene and chemotherapy drugs with NCS has a good synergistic effect compared with the traditional chemotherapy which can increase the amount of the drug distribution in target organ in order to reduce the toxic side effects thereby enhancing efficacy. Therefore, the advent of co-delivery systems with NCS especially in the clinical treatment of MDR has had a significant impact on the cancer treatment.

Multidrug resistance (MDR), which significantly decreases the efficacy of anticancer drugs and causes tumor recurrence, has been a major challenge in clinical cancer treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs for decades. Several mechanisms of overcoming drug resistance have been postulated. Well known P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and other drug efflux transporters are considered to be critical in pumping anticancer drugs out of cells and causing chemotherapy failure. Innovative theranostic (therapeutic and diagnostic) strategies with nanoparticles are rapidly evolving and are anticipated to offer opportunities to overcome these limits. In this review, we discuss the mechanisms of drug efflux-mediated resistance and the application of multiple nanoparticle-based platforms to overcome chemoresistance and improve therapeutic outcome.
