Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to confirm the effect of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injections (TRIAM) to treat granulomatous tissue surrounding the tracheostomy stoma.Subjects and Method We reviewed and documented the medical charts of 20 patients who were administered with TRIAM to treat granulomatous tissue surrounding the tracheostomy stoma from January 2018 to June 2019 were. The surface area of the granulomatous tissue was measured using Image J. The differences between the area of the granulomatous tissue after conventional treatment and after TRIAM on the same patient were compared. Results: A total of 20 patients consisting of 12 males and 8 females were included, with the patients’ average age being 60.0±14.3 years. The initial surface area of granulation tissue was 1.266±0.449 cm2, and 1.243±0.432 cm2 after conventional treatment, showing no statistically significant difference in the tissue area (p=0.143). The pre-injection surface area of granulation tissue was 1.243±0.432 cm2, and the area on the 7th day after the third injection was 0.477±0.217 cm2, showing a significant difference (p<0.001). Conclusion Compared to the conventional treatment, the surface area of granulomatous tissue surrounding the tracheostomy stoma significantly decreased after being treating with TRIAM. This finding suggests the effectiveness of TRIAM as a treatment of granulomatous tissue surrounding the tracheostomy stoma without complications such as bleeding.

Gynecological cancer is a life-threatening malignancy among women. Traditional therapies, including chemotherapy, often face challenges in terms of chemotherapeutic drug solubility and resistance, specificity, tumor site targeting, and toxicity to healthy tissues, leading to shortened efficacy and unfavorable patient outcomes and survival rates in patients with gynecologic malignancies. Recently, nanotechnology-based therapeutic methods such as targeted drug delivery and phototherapies have emerged as an appropriate alternative to overcome issues associated with traditional therapeutic methods. Specifically, nanomaterials and nanomaterial-based methods enhance the delivery of therapeutic/targeting agents to tumor sites and cellular uptakes and improve the tumor-suppressing effect. This review aims to provide an overview and future perspective on the potential impact of nanotechnology-based therapeutic methods for effective therapies for gynecologic cancer.

This study explores the development, roles, and key initiatives of the Regional Environmental Health Centers in Korea, detailing their evolution through four distinct phases and their impact on environmental health policy and local governance. It chronicles the establishment and transformation of these centers from their inception in May 2007, through four developmental stages. Originally named Environmental Disease Research Centers, they were subsequently renamed Environmental Health Centers following legislative changes. The analysis includes the expansion in the number of centers, the transfer of responsibilities to local governments, and the launch of significant projects such as the Korean Children’s Environmental Health Study (Ko-CHENS ). During the initial phase (May 2007–February 2009), the 10 centers concentrated on research-driven activities, shifting from a media-centered to a receptor-centered approach. In the second phase, prompted by the enactment of the Environmental Health Act, six additional centers were established, broadening their scope to address national environmental health issues. The third phase introduced Ko-CHENS, a 20-year national cohort project designed to influence environmental health policy by integrating research findings into policy frameworks. The fourth phase marked a decentralization of authority, empowering local governments and redefining the centers' roles to focus on regional environmental health challenges. The Regional Environmental Health Centers have significantly evolved and now play a crucial role in addressing local environmental health issues and supporting local government policies. Their capacity to adapt and respond to region-specific challenges is essential for the effective implementation of environmental health policies, reflecting geographical, socioeconomic, and demographic differences.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the extent of intraoral occlusal adjustment required for zirconia crowns designed with a dynamic jaw motion tracking method compared to a conventional approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen patients needing zirconia crown restorations in the anterior or posterior regions participated in this study. Following tooth preparation, dynamic jaw motion tracking records were gathered using a tracking device. These records were imported into computer-aided design software and aligned with scanned upper and lower jaw data to design each crown's occlusal surface. Two crowns were fabricated for each patient: one using motion tracking data and another without it. Crowns were scanned pre- and post-adjustment following standard protocols. The scanned data were analyzed with 3D inspection software to calculate occlusal adjustments in the segmented occlusal area as root mean square values, with a paired t-test used for statistical analysis (α = 0.05). RESULTS: Crowns designed with motion tracking data required significantly less intraoral occlusal adjustment than those designed conventionally (P = .028). CONCLUSION Dynamic jaw motion tracking in crown design reduces the extent of intraoral occlusal adjustment, potentially enhancing clinical efficiency.

Background/Aims: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) frequently occurs in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly when influenced by factors such as abdominal infections, IBD flare-ups, or surgical procedures. The implications of PVT range from immediate issues such as intestinal ischemia to long-term concerns including portal hypertension and its complications. However, there is a notable gap in comprehensive studies on PVT in IBD, especially with the increasing incidence of IBD in Asia. This research aimed to evaluate the clinical features and outcomes of PVT in patients with IBD at a leading hospital in South Korea. Methods: This retrospective analysis reviewed adult patients diagnosed with both IBD and PVT from 1989 to 2021 at a renowned South Korean medical center. The study focused on patient characteristics, specifics of PVT, administered treatments, and outcomes, all confirmed through enhanced CT scans. Results: A total of 78 patients met the study’s criteria. Notably, only 20.5% (16/78) were treated with oral anticoagulants; however, a vast majority (96.2%; 75/78) achieved complete radiographic resolution (CRR). When comparing patients receiving anticoagulants to those who did not, a significant preference for anticoagulant use was observed in cases where the main portal vein was affected, as opposed to just the left or right veins (p = 0.006). However, multivariable analysis indicated that neither anticoagulant use nor previous surgeries significantly impacted CRR. Conclusions Patients with IBD and PVT generally had favorable outcomes, regardless of anticoagulant use.
