Objective:To describe the detail sampling design,weighting,instruments,filed procedures and quality control methods of the epidemiological survey on dementia among community residents in Tongliao City.Methods:A three-stage disproportionate probability sampling design was used to investigate the inhabitants aged 65 years and over in Tongliao City,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.The 10/66 Dementia Research Group(10/66 DRG)assessment instruments were used to diagnose dementia,using computer-assisted personal interview mode in the selected older people.Comprehensive quality control methods were implemented throughout the field-work.Results:A total of 166 villages or communities were sampled from nine counties or districts in Tongliao Cit-y.Totally 4 345 older people were interviewed with 96.2％response rate.By calculating sampling design weights,non-response adjustment weights and post-stratification adjustment weights,these weights were multiplied and per-formed trimming adjustment and standardization adjustment to generate final weights.The 171 interviewers were well-trained and qualified to carry out filed interview.Quality control methods included computer data check,audio record check,and telephone check in order to ensure the quality of the survey.Conclusion:This survey is imple-mented using a rigorous sampling design and timely quality control methods,and uses the 10/66 DRG assessment instruments with satisfactory international validity and reliability as survey instruments,which has international cross-cultural comparability.It provides a valid and feasible methodology of epidemiological survey on dementia for further studies in different regions in China.

Portal vein tumor thrombosis is one of the important factors that affect the treatment and prognosis of patients with malignancies. The early diagnosis and treatment of portal vein tumor thrombosis is of great significance to improve the prognosis of patients. However, at present, there is no standard and unified guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of portal vein tumor thrombosis. This article reviews the source as well as the advances in diagnosis and treatment of portal vein tumor thrombosis.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective clinical cohort study. PURPOSE: To investigate whether the combined use of dynamic pedicle screws and polyaxial pedicle screws was effective on adjacent segment pathology (ASP). OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE: Various screw and rod models have been recently developed for preventing adjacent segment disease, and hybrid systems have been described along with posterior instrumentation in the fusion segment. In the literature, although the success of dynamic systems has been demonstrated in non-fusion posterior instrumentation, it remains unclear whether the addition of a screw-based dynamic system to a fusion segment would successfully prevent ASP in the long term. METHODS: The study included 101 patients who underwent surgery for degenerative spine diseases between 2007 and 2014 with lumbar stabilization that used either polyaxial pedicle screws alone or polyaxial pedicle screws plus dynamic stabilization screws (with hinged screw heads). These two patient groups were compared using retrospectively obtained postoperative new clinical findings, Oswestry disability index (ODI) scores, visual analog scale (VAS) scores, and radiological data. RESULTS: The proportion of patients with ASP who were radiologically assessed was low (p <0.01) in the group that underwent lumbar stabilization along with dynamic screws. Treatment outcomes were clinically successful in both groups according to ODI and VAS scores, and no significant difference was determined between the groups in terms of clinical ASP (p >0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Although the combined use of dynamic screws and the static system was radiologically found to be effective for preventing ASP in patients who underwent lumbar fusion with posterior instrumentation, it did not completely eliminate ASP or result in a significant improvement in clinical ASP.

Objective To analyze clinical and laboratory results of 38 children with brucellosis for providing theoretical basis for its clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods The epidemiology, clinical features, laboratory characteristics and therapeutic effect of pediatric patients at HulunBuir People's Hospital from January 2011 to December 2015, were retrospectively evaluated. Results Totally there were 38 child patients with brucellosis, 24 males and 14 females, 36 children had directly contacted with animals, and onset seasons were mainly in Summer and Autumn. The dominant manifestations were fever in 33 (86.8%), anorexia in 21 (55.3%), arthralgiaand myalgia in 17 (44.7%), hepatomegaly in 5 (13.2%), splenomegaly in 11 (28.9%), and lymph nodes enlargement in 10 (26.3%). Abnormal laboratory findings included elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) level in 27 (71.1%) and erythrocyte sedimentation rates (ESR) in 24 (63.2%). Both the Rose Bengal test and serum agglutination test (SAT) were positive in 37 patients, only one patient was negative but the blood culture was positive. After at least 12 weeks of combined, adequate and standardized treatment, there were 30 pediatric brucellosis patients cured, improved in 8 cases, the total effective rate was 100.0%. Conclusions In endemic regions, the presence of persistent fever, joint pain and hepatosplenomegaly should alert clinicians the possibility of brucellosis. Early diagnosis and treatment will reduce the incidence of complications.

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of panaxadiol saponins for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) with chemotherapy-induced leukopenia.Methods 92 NSCLC patients with leukopenia after chemotherapy were selected and divided into the observation group (46 cases) and the control group (46 cases) by random number table method.On the second day after the chemotherapy,the observation group was given panaxadiol saponins capsules,3 tablets/time,2 times/day.The control group was orally given placebo or reserpine,4 weeks for one course of treatment,the two groups were continuously treated for two courses.The clinical efficacy,number of leukocytes,improvement of TCM symptoms and adverse reactions were evaluated.Results After treatment for 4 weeks and 8 weeks,the WBC counts of the observation group were (4.48 ±0.77) × 109/L and (4.92 ± 0.89) × 109/L,respectively,which were significantly higher than those of the control group[(4.02 ± O.93) × 109/L and (4.57 ± 0.86) × 109/L],the differences were statistically significant(t =8.24,8.41,all P ＜ 0.05).After treatment for 4 weeks and 8 weeks,the TCM syndrome scores of the observation group were (24.02 ± 5.91)points and (21.73 ± 4.14) points,respectively,which were lower than those of the control group [(26.33 ± 5.08) points and (23.14 ± 3.90) points],the differences were statistically significant (t =9.68,9.63,all P ＜ 0.05).After treatment for 4 weeks and 8 weeks,the total effective rates of TCM were 76.09％ (35/46) and 82.61％ (38/46),respectively,which were significantly higher than those of the control group [63.04％ (29/46) and 63.04％ (29/46)],the differences were statistically significant(x2 =10.32,8.61,all P ＜ 0.05).The effective rates of leukopenia improvement of the observation group after treatment for 4 weeks and 8 weeks were 69.57％ (32/46) and 78.26％ (36/46),respectively,which were higher than those of the control group [56.52％ (26/46) and 65.22％ (30/46)],the differences were statistically significant(t =9.38,9.51,all P ＜ 0.05).There were no significant differences in adverse reactions between the two groups (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Panaxadiol saponins in the treatment of NSCLC chemotherapy-induced leukopenia can significantly improve the number of white blood cells,improve the clinical symptoms,and it has good safety.

Objective Study the epidemiological and clinical findings of patients with Brucellar epididymo-orchitis (BEO),to provide a theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis.Methods A study was carried out to analyze the patients' files of epidemiological,outcome,clinical and laboratory features of 23 cases of BEO and 185 in patients with brucellosis in Hulunbuir People's Hospital during 2011-2013.Results The age of patients with BEO and without epididymo-orchitis (EO) were (34.48 ± 10.32) years old and (42.07 ± 12.19) years old,the difference was statistically significant (t =-2.842,P ＜ 0.05).Patients with BEO and without EO of brucellosis patients with hypogastralgia ratio was 78.3％ (18/23) and 8.6％ (14/162),the difference was statistically significant (x2 =68.238,P ＜ 0.05).The proportion of BEO cases with abnormal White Blood of Cell (WBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were 34.8％ (8/23) and 91.3％ (21/23),which was significantly higher than those in without EO group [9.9％ (16/162),63.0％ (102/162),x2 =11.066,7.260,all P ＜ 0.05].After 2 to 7 days,BEO patients with scrotal swelling and pain and/or tenderness relieved.After two weeks treatment,11 patients of the urinary system showed normal by ultrasound,and no patients underwent testicular resection.Conclusions Young male patients with Brucellar are prone to BEO.Laboratory abnormalities are mainly leukocytosis and high CRP level.

BACKGROUND:Cerebral vascular malformations are the leading cause of hemorrhagic apoplexy in young adults, and the rupture and bleeding of malformed vessels may cause severe neurological dysfunction. The mechanism of cerebral vascular malformations remains unclear. Modern molecular biology studies have shown that, angiogenic growth factors are abnormal y expressed in cerebral vascular malformations.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate differences in the expression of angiogenic growth factors in cerebral vascular malformations, and discuss the possible relationship between cerebral vascular malformations and angiogenic growth factors.
METHODS:Fifty patients with cerebral vascular malformations and fifty patients with intracerebral hemorrhage were included in this study. The expressions of angiogenic growth factor (vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-α) in the cerebral vascular malformation specimens and the normal superficial temporal artery specimens were detected with immunohistochemical staining.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In the normal superficial temporal artery of intracerebral hemorrhage patients, no expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-αwas found;in the vascular malformations, they were highly expressed (P<0.05). Compared with normal blood vessels, vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-αexpression was significantly increased in patients with cerebral vascular malformations.

BACKGROUND:Adipose-derived stem cells are easily col ected and abundantly cultured, which can proliferate rapidly when being cultured in vitro. With multi-directional differentiation potential, adipose-derived stem cells are expected as seed cells for tissue engineering.
OBJECTIVE:To isolate, culture and identify of adipose-derived stem cells from Sprague-Dawley rats in vitro.
METHODS:The subcutaneous adipose tissue was obtained from the iliac region of rats under the aseptic condition, and then was digested with 0.075%type Ⅰ col agenase and cultured in vitro. The morphology and proliferation characteristics of the cells were observed under an inverted phase contrast microscope. The third passage was put into gauge for growth curve by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, and the cells were also identified by CD44, a stem cellmarker, with immunofluorescence staining. Adipose-derived stem cells were induced and differentiated into adipocytes in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium/Ham’s nutrient mixture F-12 containing 10%fetal bovine serum, dexamethasone and insulin, and then the cells were identified with oil red“O”staining. Adipose-derived stem cells were induced and differentiated into neural cells, and then the cells were identified with immunohistochemical staining.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The growth curve of adipose-derived stem cells was opposite-like“S”shape, and it strongly expressed CD44 that can designate a stem cell. The passage cells were exposed to a defined medium for adipocyte differentiation, and then could be stained with oil red. After being induced and differentiated into nerve cells, the cells expressed neuron-specific enolase. The adipose-derived stem cells of Sprague-Dawley rats are characterized by easy isolation, culture and proliferation in vitro, expressing related phenotypes of mesenchymal stem cells, as wel as induction and differentiation under certain conditions.
