1.Validation and Reliability of Korean Short Version of the Perspectives on Caring for Older Patients Scale
Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2024;33(1):51-59
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Korean short version of the Perspectives on Caring for Older Patients (PCOP) scale.
Methods:
The PCOP scale was translated from English to Korean through forward and backward translation. The participants were 313 nurses and nursing students in U & D cities. The construct reliability and validity of the Korean short version of the PCOP scale were analyzed using item analysis as well as exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and in terms of internal consistency using SPSS and AMOS 23.0.
Results:
The final scale consisted of eight items and two factors that were found to explain 65.9% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the Korean short version of the PCOP scale satisfied all goodness-of-fit parameters. Cronbach’s ⍺ for this scale was .78.
Conclusion
The findings show that the Korean short version of the PCOP scale is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating the perspectives of nurses and student nurses in Korea in terms of caring for older patients. However, further research is needed to test the content validity and criterion-related validity of the scale.
2.Mediating Effect of Job Satisfaction on the Relationship between Nursing Practice Environment and Turnover Intention of Nurses in a National Forensic Psychiatic Hospital
Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2023;32(3):307-314
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to examine job satisfaction as a mediator of the relationship between nursing practice environment and turnover intention of nurses in a national forensic psychiatric hospital.
Methods:
This study used a descriptive design. All participants were nurses (n=102) working at a national forensic psychiatric hospital. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and PROCESS macro (version 4.1) with SPSS 26.0 program.
Results:
Turnover intention showed a significant negative correlation with the nursing practice environment (r=-.37, p<.001) and job satisfaction (r=-.46, p<.001). Job satisfaction had a mediating effect on the relationship between nursing practice environment and turnover intention.
Conclusion
The results of the study confirmed the completely mediating effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between nursing practice environment and turnover intention. In order to prevent turnover, it is necessary to improve the nursing practice environment and job satisfaction in consideration of forensic patients and hospital environment.
3.Effect of Digital Health Interventions on Psychotic Symptoms among Persons with Severe Mental Illness in Community: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2023;53(1):69-86
Purpose:
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of digital health interventions on the psychotic symptoms among people with severe mental illness in the community.
Methods:
A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with the Cochrane Intervention Research Systematic Review Manual and PRISMA. A literature search was conducted of published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for digital health interventions from January 2022 to April 2022. RevMan software 5.3 was used for quality assessment and meta-analysis.
Results:
A total 14 studies out of 9,864 studies were included in the review, and 13 were included in meta-analysis. The overall effect size of digital health interventions on psychotic symptoms was - 0.21 (95% CI = - 0.32 to - 0.10). Sub-analysis showed that the reduction of the psychotic symptoms was effective in the schizophrenia spectrum group (SMD = - 0.22; 95% CI = - 0.36 to - 0.09), web (SMD = - 0.41; 95% CI = - 0.82 to 0.01), virtual reality (SMD = - 0.33; 95% CI = - 0.56 to - 0.10), mobile (SMD = - 0.15; 95% CI = - 0.28 to - 0.03), intervention period of less than 3 months (SMD = - 0.23; 95% CI = - 0.35 to - 0.11), and non-treatment group (SMD = - 0.23; 95% CI = - 0.36 to - 0.11).
Conclusion
These findings suggest that digital health interventions alleviate psychotic symptoms in patients with severe mental illnesses. However, well-designed digital health studies should be conducted in the future.
4.Factors Influencing Grip Strength of Depressed Patients: Using Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2018~2019)
Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2023;32(1):92-100
Purpose:
This study aimed to identify factors influencing hand grip strength of community-dwelling patients with depression.
Methods:
This was a secondary data analysis of the Korea Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2018~2019), which utilized a complex, multistage probability sample design. A total of 297 participants were included. Hand grip strength was assessed using a digital hand dynamometer. To evaluate factors influencing hand grip strength, a complex-samples general linear model was used.
Results:
Factors influencing hand grip strength were demographic factors such as gender (male: t=12.58, p<.001), age (19~44 years: t=7.37, p<.001; 45~64 years: t=5.61, p<.001), and education (≤elementary school: t=-2.36, p=.019; middle school to high school: t=-2.13, p=.034), body mass index (<18.5: t=-3.39, p=.001; 18.5-24.9: t=-2.51, p=.013), sedentary time per day (t=-2.19, p=.030), sleep time per day (t=-1.98, p=.049), and depression (t=-3.31, p=.001).
Conclusion
Grip strength can predict the current health status in depressed patients.

Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2023;32(4):491-500
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of the reasons for living on suicide behavior in soldiers with suicide attempts.
Methods:
A descriptive study design was used. The participants were 67 soldiers with suicide attempts from an Armed Forces Hospital in D city. Data were collected from January 9 to March 9, 2023, and were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program.
Results:
Regression analysis results showed that diagnosis with major depressive disorder (β=.25, p=.013), survival and coping belief (β=-.52, p=.001), family responsibility and concern (β=.25, p=.033) were significant factors, and these factors explained 45.9% of the variance in suicide behavior.
Conclusion
The findings of this study indicate that diagnosis with major depressive disorder and the reasons for living influence the suicide behavior of soldiers with suicide attempts. Therefore, to prevent suicide, reattempts of soldiers, an intervention strategy to improve survival and coping beliefs, and family responsibilities and concerns are needed for soldiers diagnosed with depression.
