ObjectiveTo understand the epidemiological characteristics and post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies exposure cases in Suqian City of Jiangsu Province from 2021 to 2024, providing a reference for optimizing the allocation of health resources and formulating scientific prevention and control measures. MethodsData on individuals exposed to rabies and treated at Suqian’s rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) clinics from 2021 to 2024 were collected. Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze patient characteristics, exposure classification, animal species responsible for injuries, wound management, and vaccination status. ResultsBetween 2021 and 2024, the number of outpatient visits for rabies PEP clinics in Suqian City totaled 333 450. The median age and the 25th and 75th percentiles of exposed individuals was 23 (9, 47) years. The highest proportion of exposed individuals was recorded in 2023 (27.09%); the majority were female (52.22%), aged 5‒9 years (17.49%), and in other occupations (37.05%). The rabies exposure rate in Suqian City from 2021 to 2024 was 16.75‰. The overall rabies exposure rate showed an upward trend (

Tea green leafhopper(TGL),Empoasca onukii,is of biological and economic interest.Despite numerous studies, the mechanisms underlying its adaptation and evolution remain enig-matic.Here,we use previously untapped genome and population genetics approaches to examine how the pest adapted to different environmental variables and thus has expanded geographically. We complete a chromosome-level assembly and annotation of the E.onukii genome, showing nota-ble expansions of gene families associated with adaptation to chemoreception and detoxification.Genomic signals indicating balancing selection highlight metabolic pathways involved in adaptation to a wide range of tea varieties grown across ecologically diverse regions.Patterns of genetic vari-ations among 54 E.onukii samples unveil the population structure and evolutionary history across different tea-growing regions in China. Our results demonstrate that the genomic changes in key pathways, including those linked to metabolism, circadian rhythms, and immune system functions, may underlie the successful spread and adaptation of E.onukii.This work highlights the genetic and molecular basis underlying the evolutionary success of a species with broad economic impacts, and provides insights into insect adaptation to host plants, which will ultimately facilitate more sustain-able pest management.

The development of hearing of Kunming strain mouse was studied using evoked auditory nerve action potential (AP). The result showed that the onset of hearing was present during P10( tenth postnatal day) to P14. The thresholds of AP - N1 wave declined gradualy with the growth of the mouse. The auditory thresholds declined dramatically in the period from P10 to P20 and it indicated that the development of hearing was more rapid in this period. The thresholds, amplitudes and latencies of AP - N1 wave attained adult values by P40. The result showed that it took about one month for Kunming strain mouse to attain hearing maturation. The study on the development of hearing in normal mouse may serve as an important reference when studying degenerative lesions of the inner ear and the regeneration of cochlear hair cells.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MS)and its components among people aged over 15 years in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and to compare the difference between Zhuang and Han populations. Methods Adopting cluster sampling,a survey of diabetes mellitus was conducted in Guangxi from 2003 to 2005.A total of 27 240 subjects aged over 15 years with complete data, including background information of each individual, blood pressure, lipid profile, plasma glucose, blood uric acid and fasting insulin were analyzed in this study. The prevalence of MS and its components were analysed in Han and Zhuang Chinese in Guangxi. The criteria of International Diabetes Federation(IDF)in 2005 and the China Diabetes Society(CDS)in 2004 were applied for diagnosis.Results(1)The crude prevalence rates of MS according to IDF definition were 13.15%in total,12.41%in male and 14.11%in female respectively. The age- standardized prevalence rates of MS(according to the population composition in China in 2000)were 7.66%in total,7.26%in male and 8.81%in female. The crude prevalence rates of MS according to CDS definition were 10.75%in total,13.45%in male and 7.28%in female respectively and the age-standar-dized prevalence rates of MS were 5.9%in total,7.21%in male and 4.31%in female. The prevalence of MS in total, male and female was increasing with age(P
